What do you do about wrap dresses which are too low cut?

My only option for a wedding this weekend is a wrap dress that I have never worn because it gapes at the neck a bit which makes it too low cut.

I can't be the only one with this problem.

Do I have to find a vest top in a co ordinating colour underneath, or do I stitch it so that it is not so low cut, or is there a more stylish option?

I tend to wear a cami top underneath in a go-ordinating colour. If it has a bit of lace at the top, I think it can look really nice.
Hope you enjoy the wedding.

I have the same problem due to big boobs....so I have only ever found two solutions...press stud, just there...or something underneath (which often ruins the cut and line of the dress)

Thetokengirl · 28/02/2012 19:47

A co- ordinating colour, even!

Small stitch or press stud.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/02/2012 19:49

Some sort of brooch?

tassisssss · 28/02/2012 19:50

marks and spencer lovely vests with lace at the top. Stays up nicely for coverage!

LotusPalm · 28/02/2012 19:52

I've always gone for vest tops in coordinating colour, or White!

CMOTDibbler · 28/02/2012 19:52

M&S lace top vest, a slip, or my favourite is the bra with a lace panel designed for this purpose

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 28/02/2012 19:56

M&S vest for me, the ones with the lacy top are lovely. They do loads of colours.

BearlyThere · 28/02/2012 19:56

Didbt they sell v shaped things, material things, that you could stick in once. I have a déjà vu thing here

carrotsandcelery · 28/02/2012 20:03

Thank you everyone. I have an M&S voucher so I will take a good look there.

Yup, vests all the way... In my time I have been known to wear vest tops with the bottoms cut off - sounds silly Blush BUT that way you get the boob coverage but not the vest bit on the tummy which can really ruin the fit of a dress.

redrubyshoes · 28/02/2012 20:09

I use these, they just clip onto your bra

Kellamity · 28/02/2012 20:11

I love those redruby

Rainydayagain · 28/02/2012 20:14

I would wear a cami now that i am old. but could you tit tape ( primark sell it) when i was younger i used double sided sticky tape!

redrubyshoes · 28/02/2012 20:17

I also have a wrap around dress with a split and it is very low cut and the modesty panels are great and you don't have to have an extra layer of clothing on.

carrotsandcelery · 28/02/2012 20:18

I am a bit worried about ruining the fit of the dress. It is a little big and I don't want loads of bulk underneath it.

I am more worried about flashing my boobs to family and friends though Blush so it seems the safest option, especially since the dcs will be with me so I will also be leaning down etc.

How about a bandeau bra?

I've also worn a crop top under low cut dresses or tops with success.

EightiesChick · 28/02/2012 20:22

Costume tape can be used for something like this. It actually is very reliable. I got mine from Debenhams. Otherwise I go the vest top route day to day but if fit's important then try tape. You can do a 'practice run' to see how you feel with it.

PastGrace · 28/02/2012 20:27

I normally just wear a strappy top, but have seen these. I don't think I would trust them, but it would stop the line of the dress being ruined.

I have also stitched myself into dresses when I've been in a hurry and decided at the last minute that the top is too low cut - just a couple of tacks to hold the front together for the duration of the event.

PastGrace · 28/02/2012 20:31

Oh, sorry - same thing as redruby. And hers are cheaper.

carrotsandcelery · 28/02/2012 20:33

Ladies you are wonderful. I really appreciate all the ideas you are coming up with. Thank you.

I am intrigued by the tape. How would I use it? Would I tape the dress to my skin to stop it slipping? Would I tape the bits of the dress to each other instead of stitching? I am completely rubbish at this sort of thing. [clueless]

can you get an all in one body underwear thing....they won't add bulk and would give a lovely smooth line which can be difficult if you start layering??

I have one wrap dress which is a bit plungey at the front and if "the body underwear" in in the wash I compromise with a big knicker and fitted vest top tucked in....makes me feel like I am back at infant school! :o

carrotsandcelery · 28/02/2012 20:45

Grin I had no idea! I will eye up all the other wedding guests with suspicion and if I feel intimidated I will imagine their big knicker vest combos and feel more at ease Grin
