What do you do about wrap dresses which are too low cut?

My only option for a wedding this weekend is a wrap dress that I have never worn because it gapes at the neck a bit which makes it too low cut.

I can't be the only one with this problem.

Do I have to find a vest top in a co ordinating colour underneath, or do I stitch it so that it is not so low cut, or is there a more stylish option?

[desperate]

carrots you could do either. The tape's very strong. I have washed things with it on before now and it's come out of the machine still in place - when I've taped one side of a dress to the other, of course, not when it's taped to me... I would recommend getting some and trying it out. I have also taken it with me in my handbag in case anything happens and it does slip, but it never has yet.

EllenParsons · 28/02/2012 23:17

I tend to go for a vest top - safest option!

anniewoo · 28/02/2012 23:22

I second the lovely lace camis in M & S

Devora · 28/02/2012 23:22

I have used those things that clip to your bra, but they seem to ride up on me (not a good look). I don't think they're so good for the more-generous-of-bosom.

Mainly, I use a safety pin. [classy bird emoticon]

PastGrace · 28/02/2012 23:25

I used some tit tape on a dress before a night out once. It was welded to my hair the next morning .

tethersend · 28/02/2012 23:30

I hate the look of a cami or vest under a dress; what works for me is to pull the underneath part of the wrap taught and pin it to my bra with safety pins.

FizzyLaces · 28/02/2012 23:31

I would never wear something called a 'modesty panel' Hmm

redrubyshoes · 28/02/2012 23:33

Fizzy

Call it a 'Tit Cover' then. Grin

anniewoo · 29/02/2012 07:23

I found the modesty panels didn't stretch across my not so ample bosom!

BearlyThere · 29/02/2012 07:28

Ooh tethers. That's good.
Or buy a fuller cup plain bra and sod it

carrotsandcelery · 29/02/2012 08:38

Oooh Tethers that would probably do it. Then I wouldn't get so hot. I am shopping today so I am going to try out lots of options.

I use an extralong thin vest or a silk slip, to avoid the hem bulge on standard length vests.

valiumredhead · 29/02/2012 09:02

Pin it with a small earring?

carrotsandcelery · 29/02/2012 22:33

I got a vest in M&S today (with my voucher) that is a pinky nude colour and picks out the pinky nude colour in the dress (am also going to wear nude shoes if I manage to walk normally in them) and it looks better than I hoped it might. It looks like it came with the dress which is the best I can hope for really.

I might still pin the dress but at least if it slips I won't be mortified.

Thank you everyone for all your advice.

Or camis from here, as they come in all possible colours

carrotsandcelery · 01/03/2012 11:48

HazleNutt those bosombuttons look fab - thank you. I need them for nearly every t-shirt I have got, let alone wedding outfits. Thanks

I find camis and vests ride up.
I bought a simple slip in M&S and have been getting lots of wear out of it.

Whoamireally · 01/03/2012 17:59

I just work out where I want the plunge neckline to stop, and put in a couple of stitches with a needle to hold it. I have to do this A LOT with anything from Boden. I like to tell myself it's because I have high, pert, tits. The reality is probably that I am just modestly-proportioned from collarbone to boobage.

I am not in any shape or form handy with a needle. I can sew on a button. So that is the extent of the needlework skill required Wink

anniewoo · 03/03/2012 08:29

Camiinbed stick the cami into your tights and it won't ride up. Unless you're wearing stockings.

anniewoo · 03/03/2012 08:29

Sorry coffeeinbed i meantGrin

DonInKillerHeels · 03/03/2012 08:39

Tit tape or bra with built-in special panel. Any additional loose material would ruin the line of the dress, typically.

coffeeinbed · 05/03/2012 17:22
Grin Stockings... I remember those.

This is a continuous problem for me - so many dresses are so low cut and its not suitable for work IMHO! I usually wear a cami top but it can make me feel a bit hot and ruin the line as you say. I find putting a stitch or safety pin in makes the dress pull in a funny way unless you get it absolutely right - how do you do it right??. I like the idea of pinning to the bra better, at least the material will move right over the top.

anniewoo · 10/08/2012 10:01

I got those modesty panels . They didn't stretch across Blush and my boobs aren't that big!
