False Toenail

Blush I know, gross! no-one wants to talk about manky bits but I need help in the toenail dept.

One of my big ones has fallen off, there is a little bit of nail underneath - can I have a gel overlay? where do I go to get one done and will they do just one nail??!!

If there is some nail left then you have it reconstructed. You need a skilled Nail Technician and as one I would use liquid and powder (acrylic) to extend the toenail from the little bit you have left until it matches the one on your other foot.

You don't want it long and it needs to be thin, that way it won't get caught but when polished will look really natural.

Speak to a Nail Tech on the phone and ask if they've done this before before booking, and they should be happy to do one nail. If you're in the Swindon area let me know and I'll do it Grin

unfortunately nowhere near Swindon - London based. Anyone recommend a good nail technician? or should I just go with one of these?

You need a Wilde Pedique cosmetic prosthetic toenail. These are a UV cured gel which are designed specifically for toes - they are flexible, as are natural nails, therefore won't dig in and be uncomfortable like salon ones meant for fingernails. You can apply nail polish etc over the top if you want.

thanks Horses and patsy I'll look into both. Do either of you have any ideas how long my real nail will take to grow back?

OP posts:

It will take 3 to 6 months to re-grow depending on how low down it came off.....

MissWooWoo · 01/03/2012 09:52

er, the bottom! still it should be back for when I "need" it

Have used these before - good for emergencies.
toenails

If you can, letting the sun get to it whenever posible does increase nail growth.

MissWooWoo · 01/03/2012 12:33

can you wear falsies with shoes?

OP posts:
Jackstini · 02/03/2012 22:33

Yes you can Woo - they last for approx 7 days

I damaged my nail a year ago, it went black and fell off a few months later. Theres still a bit of a ridge where the new nail begins so I think another and it will look normal again. So about 6 months to gro back properly.
