Nice wollens jumpers and cardigans that will go in the washing machine

Hello all,

Hope collective mumsnet wisdon can help me.

DD is two and a bit. I work four days a week.

I've got some lovely wollens (typically belted cardigans) for work, mainly Jigsaw, Kew and fat face, (all sales purchases) but these are all hand wash only.

I've got a couple of waterfall cardigans from M&S, which were bought in the post birth period, which were great for then but now feel mumsy and are getting quite worn.

All the nice stuff is hand wash only, and DD is still at the stage where snot and food tend to get onto what I'm wearing.

If we're going to the beach or I know I'm going to be playing in a sandpit I'm quite happy to wear a fleece. I'm after some nicer wollens though for when I'm doing stuff with DD where the clothes won't get damaged, but will probably get snot/food on them that I can just chuck in the washing machine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Katy

I never hand wash my 'hand wash only' clothes, I just put them in the machine on a delicate cycle using delicate detergent in one of those delicates bag things. I haven't had any problems with this method yet - even my lovely Brora cashmere goes in the machine and comes out absolutely fine and has done for years. Life's too short for hand washing...

(I know that if I did actually stick to hand washing my hand wash only clothes they would languish at the bottom of the laundry basket for weeks on end waiting for me to get round to it and I wouldn't get nearly as much wear out of them.)

I'm with Optimism - I never hand wash anything either. All my woollens go on a wool wash and have come out fine (I did have to hold my breath when I first washed a Brora jumper in the machine in case it shrank!).

A word of caution, my washing machine's hand wash cycle has shrunk everything I've tried thus far. Back to the sink for me.
