I have a question or two for you

My liquid gold turned up today and I want to combine this with trying the oil cleansing method, worthwhile trying as it's so cheap,is this a good way to go and if I use the alpha h for 3 nights a week then should I be oil cleansing every evening and should a toner be used afterwards

I also wanted to ask,it says soft cloth, does this means a terry towelling flannel or is that too rough or does it mean a muslin, and do these after 1 use get chucked in the machine or does the washing powder interfere

Lastly,I read on here this evening that someone uses bio oil on their face, have you tried this,I do have some really cheap vit E oil upstairs that is for facial use but would one of those decleor ones be better

sorry for the bombardment of 20 questions but am feeling a little bit desperate with having crappy skin now after having lovely skin for most of my life Blush

Maybe you have found your new career MrsM ?

mrsmartin · 22/02/2012 21:19

omg I wish I could make a career out of it

Not sure how well oil cleansing will work with liquid gold but it is worth a try...

Use the oil to cleanse morning and evening on your 'off days''
On your 'on days' cleanse with oil in the morning. If you have been wearing make up during the day then cleanse with oil in the evening too. If you haven't had make up on then swipe your skin with a hot cloth, then tone, then apply liqid gold.

Just use the vit e oil as your moisturiser for a while and see how you get on. So oil cleanse, tone, 3 or 4 drops of vit e oil, done Smile (except for the nights you do your liquid gold).Try and keep that up for 4-5 weeks to see how your skin reacts to it.

I buy cotton cloths from ebay to cleanse with these ones and I just bung them in with my white wash - never had a problem caused by the detergent. Make sure the water you use is really hot - pref keep the tap running. Once I have got my face clean I like to run the cloth under the cold tap and then press it to my skin - it closes the pores back up.

The decleor oils are brilliant but use what you have at the moment and see after a month what/if you need any other products - you'll save money and your skin will benefit from the steady routine Grin

QuietOhSoQuiet · 22/02/2012 21:34

oh mrsM do it,do it,do it.....you have soooo much knowledge about the skincare, write a blog :o

When I used OCM I still did the full cleanse because I know that the skin spits out loads of crap while you sleep. However, officially you just need to wipe your face with a hot cloth.

QuietOhSoQuiet · 23/02/2012 13:01

gah, flipping chemists do not stock castor oil anymore due to people abusing it,cheeky mare asked me why I wanted it too.She said no one really wanted it and it was an outdated product so I looked at her sweetly and said that I was sure lots more people would be asking for it soon :o she looked at me as f I had lost my mind though.

well, I can't say I'm too shocked re the chemist but would have though you could also get it somewhere like holland&barratt? MN certainly does seem to be starting a cleansing revolution...(still going to stick to my elemis/decleor combo though).

Bucharest · 23/02/2012 14:16

The chemist prob thought you wanted to make explosives...

Liquid gold, wazzat then?

QuietOhSoQuiet · 23/02/2012 14:26

Buch liquid gold is a glycolic wipe liquid you apply 3 times a week after cleansing, got mine from qvc so then if it does not agree with my skin then I will get a full refund even when used.

I tried my liquid last night and thought I would wake up to crumbly, shitty, dried up old bag skin as I did not put moisturiser on BUT I in fact woke up to lovely dewy soft skin Confused

I have ordered some castor off ebay, the teensy town I went to this am does not have very many shops.I am going to try this method MrsM as money is tight as am currently unemployed and I don't think dh would be that enamoured with me if I suddenly sent a fortune on more stuff (am excellent at hiding things though Hmm ) to clean my face, bastard is the same age as me and has beautiful skin,no spots or lines or wrinkles but he is greying quicker than me

MooMinCow · 23/02/2012 14:33

mrsm - (whispers) are you really Alison Young off QVC? Grin

sweetheart · 23/02/2012 14:38

Oh would you mind if I asked a question?

I'm just starting my 30's and feel i should pay a bit more attention to my skincare regime. I use the Sanctuary hot cloth cleaner at the moment morning and night but I don't like to use moisturisers as whenever I put too much stuff on my face I break out. The best way to keep my skin clear is to just use the cloth cleanser but i know in the long run this porbably isn't any good.

What should I do / use?

mrsbaldwin · 23/02/2012 14:42

MrsMartin, maybe you should do a Mumsnet DIY skincare webchat? Would that be the first instance of MN creating its own celebrity???

HillyWallaby · 23/02/2012 14:48

I started using the hot oil cleansing (ordinary flannel, very hot water, dollop of SAO) it works brilliantly for taking off make-up, but I wasn't really sure how often I should be doing it, and what all this on/off day thing is about.

I was also moisturing for a few weeks with avocado oil which was great (felt lovely) but now I live in a hot climate I really do need some SPF so I have ditched that and gone back to shop bought moisturiser.

I recently bought a bottle of plain almond oil from the chemists here in the Middle East but not sure if it is as good/pure or even the same thing Confused as the organic 'sweet' almond oil I had before. Can't find a decent health food type place here that sells it. Can I mix it with my leftover avocado oil and use that to cleanse instead?

I need a full run down of what to do and when to do it, basically. Grin

TIA

mrsmartin · 23/02/2012 14:58

Yes...I am actually Alison Young... I wish - she has the best job EVER.

quiet - I totally understand - I tried OCM and it didn't work for me but it works for legions of other women. I say start at the lowest price point and work your way up. DC is ten years older than me but doesn't look it...he does have crows feet but I think they're really sexy on men.

Sweetheart if your skin looks good now then don't worry about messing with your routine...you could try poping on three drops of a face oil morning and night but if it ain't broken don't fix it! I would say use toner after cleansing though - it is lovely and refreshing and it will restore your skin's PH balance to it's optimum level for cell renewal in seconds (takes the skin up to 14hours on its own).

mrsbaldwin - I hate having pictures taken etc hence no blog (DH is even encouraging me to do it) but I am more than happy to give advice to anyone who wants it.

mrsmartin · 23/02/2012 15:04

hilly I used to do ocm morning and night and used olive oil. Lot's of MN's say to use jojoba oil but seeing as though it is coming straight off I say try what you've got and see how it works. I can't recommend ultrasun highly enough as it is photostable (you can get it on amazon) and you will either need something photostable or to re-apply every hour or so...bog standard moisturiser with an spf won't cut it. Grin

mrsmartin · 23/02/2012 15:06

btw - with ultrasun you put it on clean naked skin and then wait 15mins - you could then continue to use avocado oil as your moisturiser Smile

mrsbaldwin · 23/02/2012 15:10

Well, MrsMartin, you wouldn't have to have your photo taken for a webchat, or even reveal your true identity. It would be a truly postmodern experience - here we are all slavishly following your expert advice without actually knowing who you are :)

Would anyone else be interested in a MrsMartin webchat if she is up for it?

mrsmartin · 23/02/2012 15:14

oh ok - so you don't mean a skype type thing?

Isn't that basically what this is??? Confused

mrsbaldwin · 23/02/2012 15:24

No not Skype.

An MN webchat.

Where we all submit questions, some in advance, some on the spot, and you answer, some ahead of time, some in real time.

You know, like on the Books topic they invite authors and sometimes politicians are invited.

I think there is a topic of them all archived somewhere, maybe under Site Stuff.

Yes, answering questions on a thread is similar.

But doing a webchat gives us all a licence to ponder on our saved-up questions and put them to you, knowing you will be there to respond.

sweetheart · 23/02/2012 15:25

Ohhh thanks MrsMartin, can you recommend a toner? Also face oil? I have some left over bio oil would that work?

mrsbaldwin · 23/02/2012 15:26

Here is the MN webchat section.

mrsmartin · 23/02/2012 15:35

sweetheart any toner that doesn't contain alcohol. I'm currently using liz arden hydra quench (about a tenner) but the simple one is supposed to be good and you can get it anywhere (inc your local supermarket). You don't have to spend £££££'s on a toner. Funny you should mention bio oil as I was talking to someone last night on MN who uses it as her moisturiser and loves it so yeah, by all means give it a shot. To apply it take 3 or 4 drops worth and rub between your fingers and then tap all over your face (like how you might drum your fingers on a table as a sign of impatience) before you smoothing it in with your hands. Don't forget to do your neck down to the bust - you will notice the difference in years to come when all the other women your age have turkey necks Grin.

MrsB if there is a call for it I will do it Blush

Kellamity · 23/02/2012 15:37

MrsM you really should do a blog you know. You have become an S&B celeb overnight! Smile

sweetheart · 23/02/2012 15:49

yippee thanks Mrs Martin Grin
