Need to look good

I need some help from the sage style guru's of MN

I'm due to meet some old colleagues next week after work, most of whom I have not seen in 4 months, but actually like enough to be looking forward to seeing them.

When I left I went to work in the fashion industry so there have been a lot of jokes about me becoming stylish and trendy, and I feel like I need to live up to this a bit, so this is where I need your advice, what do I wear?

I often go out with 2 of the girls and we all dress up a bit and have a girls night out, but I'll be arriving straight from work (and an hour on the train in rush hour) and don't want to dress up at work, nor do I want to just turn up in skinny jeans and a big jumper, how can I find the balance and look good when I see everyone again.

(I should add, that my reasoning is slightly vain as well, I've dropped too sizes since leaving and got a lot of gentle ribbing about my size when I worked there so it'd be nice to show off a bit Blush )

Why blush at that? You want to look fabulous so that everyone is forced to eat their words and be slightly jealous of you - totally reasonable imo.

Go for smart but sexy trousers (cigarette, peg leg - whatever suits your shape better) in a wool mix or similar (so that they don't crease on the journey), a sexy snug top - perhaps a modal fabric with lace inserts/detailing, a chic blazer (boyfriend style), a long necklace and as high a shoe as you can comfortably handle.

Think Kate moss for mango...

Thanks MrsMartin - Ilike that idea, although definitely won't look anything like, but it's a good look to go for

How tall are you and what is your body shape? If you hit on a style that suits your shape and shows off your best bits, rather than what is trendy, you can't fail to look amazing.

I'm about 5'9 and I would say probably closest to pear shaped (bum slightly bigger than boobs)

I'm currently between a 10 and a 12 (depending on where I shop)
