Obviously I'm really looking forward to it, but I am very out of touch with what is in style at the moment and need help in being a supportive parent on this occassion! Do I just sit there are let her choose whatever she wants or do I get a say? And what would you consider to be a lovely prom dress for a tall brunette 16 year old? I don't want to go around suggesting horrible dresses but I don't want to be judgemental about her choices. Help please!

Surely half the fun will be in trying on lots of different styles and seeing what suits ?
It's like buying your wedding dress - because it's not an outfit you wear for every day, you don't really know what suits until you've tried on lots of different sorts.

most girls end up in full length chiffon strapless numbers from coast...

As long as she's not showing too much, go with her choice on the style that she feels good in.
TK Maxx, Monsoon, House of Fraser?
Loads of stuff online but the trying on is part of the fun!

Also in case you want specific suggestions:
What's the budget, what size is she, long or shorter, any favourite colours?

Why don't you get her to find some pictures of dresses online that she likes, then you can use them for inspiration and discussion.

You can also practice hiding your you'rewearingthatovermydeadbody face Grin
