Cleaning a cream leather bag

I have a cream leather bag that is really grimy Sad My own fault I really havn't looked after it.

Any ideas how to clean it? I was wondering if maybe a dry cleaners would be able to do it, (thinking that they do leather jackets)

or can anyone recommend a cleaning product? Failing that would I totally ruin it by giving it a quick wash in the washing machine?

Nooooo, dont put in washing machine!

Dry cleaners I imagine, or a good product. Here's hoping someone can recommend one!

If it has a sheen to the surface then a baby wipe can be used - if it has a velvet texture then you are pretty much screwed. If you choose to put it in the wash then put liquid glyerine in the detergent drawer (helps to keep the leather from drying out.

You can also use sillicone wax to clean it (buy from good cobblers/shoe stores).

To look after your leather you should spray with a weatherproofing agent (scotchguard if you were born any earlier than 1975Wink) and feed it with a handbag cream (don't use polish as it can then transfer to clothing).

I've washed leather slippers in the machine using glycerine but I personally wouldn't put a handbag in - I say it as a last resort Grin

Also - I wouldn't trust dry cleaners - they know sweet FA about leather IME

Use Collonil Leather gel to bring the colour back in first instance with dry clean cloth, if that fails send it off to the handbag spa for a clean...

Thank you.

I have no idea what the texture is, it's a nice soft Radley bag Smile

But it was the first one I ever owned...the start of my love affair with Radley Grin my DP bought it for me at Dublin airport many years ago but it's just so lovely and love using it in summer.

It really takes a battering though, thrown in the footwell of the car, on the floor at work and home, poor bag Sad Grin

Oh and I was definately born before 1975!

My friend used baby wipes on her cream leather sofa and said it worked a treat, so might be a cheap way to start.

Thanks janmoomoo I'll try baby wipes first.

That site from madammecholet looks good too, as I've just noticed the wee tab bit that pulls the zip over has broken off Angry though its still closes.
