How suitable is this dress for a wedding?

My first post in S&B, please be gentle :)

If I can style this right up, how suitable do you think it would be for a wedding? (would also need help with said styling!)

www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33053&storeId=12552&productId=4527842&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=228107&parent_categoryId=226988&pageSize=200

It's not until June so I have a while.

I like this dress as it looks comfortable (key, as will have a 22mo DD with me so lots of running about), has a v neck (norkage) and will be quite a bit longer on me than on the mannequin in pic (5'1). I also like purple but not in huge amounts, no blocks.

If this is totally unsuitable, do you S&B gurus have any words (or dresses) of wisdom?

Am short, size 12, DD norks, v pale freckly skin, blue eyes and mid brown shoulder length hair.

thanks!

trying to be gentle...... but.... it just looks a bit too casual and comfortable for a wedding.
will have a look around and be back.

belgo · 19/02/2012 20:25

Bit short, bit low.

MrsCampbellBlack · 19/02/2012 20:28

I'd wait a bit.

Will be lots more lovely spring/summer stuff coming in the shops soon.

Also - not sure that shape terribly flattering on more petite women - I'm also short and wouldn't wear it.

Pandygirl · 19/02/2012 20:32

Depends how fancy the wedding is and if you're going to the whole day.If it's a fairly casual day then I think it's fine (although might be a bit short), get a fairly large statement necklace and purple shoes. I think if people are going to be wearing hats you might need to smarten it up (jacket and hat).
If you've got a 2 month old then you need to be able to run round after her, so you need to be stylish and comfortable.

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 19/02/2012 20:32

that's what i was worried about, the casual-ness. gah.

would definitely be longer on me, but still, maybe too short.

i have no clue, haven't been to a wedding for years a while, and not since DD, body shape is totally different!

hmmm. I think it will actually be quite a fancy wedding.

I am going for the whole day and evening (luckily my sister lives nearby so will be taking DD back there for bed and then returning for the evening do).

It's the whole larger chest thing that's throwing me, have gone from a B to DD and have still not quite caught up in my head.

Sorry not keen. Too casual for a wedding.

I would wait for more summer stuff to come into the shops.

Have you got a budget? If it's on the lower end then Primark have started getting in some dresses. I bought one last week and it looks more expensive than the tenner I paid for it.

LydiaWickham · 19/02/2012 20:41

this one would be more suitable, put with wrap and nude shoes.

LydiaWickham · 19/02/2012 20:42

this one's nice too

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 19/02/2012 20:46

Budget is at the lower end but I do have time to save if I know something will be around long enough.

Very glad I posted this rather than turn up looking like I could just be going down the pub! Shock

Thank you, any more ideas gratefully received :)

i really like this and the model is a good 9ins taller than you so maybe the length would be ok, could be dressed up with some pewter sandals and bag?

maybe this?
www.oasis-stores.com/Cowl-Drape-Dress/Dresses/oasis/fcp-product/5550047536
with nude heels and clutch.

I think even though you will be chasing after a toddler you just have to go for a dressy look as it is a wedding.

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 19/02/2012 21:13

Oh wow, ruby22 and tethersend, you've both swayed me hugely to a red dress...

Also tethers, that first one, love it. legs good in heels. Was worried about wearing black to a wedding though, but perhaps with some bright accessories?

I really think I need to take a closer look at the Oasis and DP red ones though..

If red, what colour shoes? I have some incredible black satin peep toe heels with black roses that I have never worn because they are so high. They make my legs look like they don't even belong to me but would I be a fool to risk such height? (I'd take a spare pair of flats). Also I would likely wear nude tights, would that look silly??

OP posts:

no black with red, others may disagree. Nude platforms with nude fishnets or micronets can look quite good.
Last week I bought this for a wedding
www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/warehouseVeritye-Dress/201472254
and am now on thelookout for some nude snakeskin platforms, something along the lines of
www.reissonline.com/shop/womens/shoes/heels/scarlet/taupe/
and will find a cltch in similar style or colour.
But may also pop into Oasis and try on that red dress as it looks v nice, they are bound to have a 20% offer between now and June, just had one last week.
If you want to wear the black ones (which sound fab) then go for bright colour dress, teal, emerald even to offset the black.

4ForksSake · 19/02/2012 21:43

Ruby, I saw a pair of shoes similar to those in Dune today. Think they were £79 so cheaper than the Reiss ones & v similar.

Think it was these ones but thought they were mores £ when I looked (could be wrong).Worth a look if you've got a Dune nearby or an order if they've got them in your size.

www.dune.co.uk/ada-d-low-platform-point-court-shoe-prodadad32natural/

Where did you get the red verity dress from? I've just got the praline one for wedding.

4ForksSake · 19/02/2012 21:44

Oh just noticed the Reiss ones are peep toes which the Dune ones aren't!

ruby22 · 19/02/2012 21:54

thanks 4forks, don't actually want peep toe (although they are nice) as want to wear tights with it. Will def investigate those Dune shoes as no way am I able to get the Reiss ones. Got the Verity from Phase Eight last week, they emailed me re the 20% off offer and I just looked 'just incase' and they had some in stock, prob returns from the January sale I suspect.
