New bowl of crisps, tuck in Ruby!

I am thrilled at this Pixi lust. Another of their things wot I like is the cheek gel in natural. It doesn't stay on very long but while it does it's well pretty.

I felt a bit rubbish yesterday and spent much too long hunched over the computer looking at not very edifying things. Today is better. Have shredded, spot cleaned the stair carpet, written a letter to DD who will be at an outdoor pursuity place with school next week and am now going out to buy some fabric conditioner at Wilkos. When the mice are away the cat does rather boring things, it would seem Blush.

Now I want someone to book me a holiday for the last week of April. Grin

I'm surviving the Easter break quite well so far, mainly because I have subcontracted the childcare (to holiday club and my mum) and am happily at my desk. I have a couple of days off next week, though, and we're off to the Midlands to visit family over Easter itself.

All this talk of holidays. Normally our holidays just...happen. For six years running we went away en masse with my parents/siblings, so all I had to do was arrange transport to whichever holiday house my dad had arranged. Last summer we decided to do something cheaper different, so we had our PGL stay-cation, but this year, who knows? Nothing booked, no inspiration or spare cash...... We have at least booked a trip to Ireland to see the ILs over October half-term, as it is probably three years since all five of us have been over.

Bedroom tidiness......every now and then I consider leaving the DCs to it, and watching them slowly disappear amongst the mounds of dirty underwear, shoes, schoolbooks and the like, just waiting for the moment when realisation dawns that they will have to wear yesterday's pants and go to school in their slippers without the necessary homework.....but I just can't do it. Do they eventually learn??

wilbur · 04/04/2012 18:47

Speaking as a spectacularly untidy teenager, they do eventually learn, but probably only when the room is really their own. I got house proud at University in my little 60's box room on campus - I remember my mother bursting into tears because I had bought myself a pretty pillowcase to make my room look nicer. When my dad was selling our family home, I sat on my childhood bed as I was clearing the room and thought "I have been tidying this room for 30 years and I'm still not done".

As for hoping that yesterday's pants-wearing might shock them into clearing up, I would say that might work for girls but ds1 certainly has no problem rewearing clothes ad infinitum. Left to tend to his own hygiene, he would be the child at school who smells Sad.

motherinferior · 04/04/2012 21:03

Oooh, S&B snigger alert: I went to a product launch today featuring a well known model who alleges she uses Pond's cold cream, Vaseline and Sudocreme...oh and cuts her own hair Confused. Yeah. Right.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/04/2012 21:29

Now if I said all that, no-one would disbelieve me. Grin

MI - quick curry question - I have arse rippingly hot chicken and coconut curry simmering on the cooker. Should I add chick peas or haricot beans to give it a bit of bulk/interest. If so, which?

motherinferior · 04/04/2012 21:32

I actually wouldn't. Add green beans (from freezer) if anything.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/04/2012 21:37

Ah yes, green beans. V good idea. Have also thrown a bit of rotting red pepper that I found in the fridge in it as well.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/04/2012 21:37

And a large spoonful of Piment Martinique to give extra heat to an already hot curry.

CointreauVersial · 04/04/2012 23:35

Strops - how's your DH? Any test results forthcoming?

Blackduck · 05/04/2012 06:55

CV got there before me - any news Stropps, or will it be after Easter now.

Strange househunters - these turned on every light and flushed the loos! They wanted a door in the garage opened (dp had no idea where the keys were as we haven't opened it in 9 years). They insisted he find the keys and take a photo of it open and send to EA to send on to them! Liberal amounts of WD40 later door was opened (we were quite surprised the garge didn't actually collapse on opening of said door). We await rubbish offer....

Meanwhile house is very quiet, no dog or ds. Dp said he opened the fridge for cheese and thought 'hang on something is missing' dog can hear fridge open from a mile away and loves his cheese!

Morning crepeys!

BD, hope one of your "lookers" comes up with the cash. And thinking hopeful thoughts for you too Strops.

I am currently wondering what we should pack for our little hol - seems like shorts are off the agenda Sad

oldqueenie · 05/04/2012 10:20

greetings from suffolk my crepey friends....
ruby, how kind of you to think of me. you are right.... on sunday here it was summer - sat on beach with sunglasses and cardi on and needed suncream for face, seiously contemplated a swim. on tuesday it was spring, lovely sun but a nip in the air. yesterday it was winter - took dog out in freezing cold rain and got soaking wet. Hmm. the locals are safe from any spring looks, its just my wooly jumpers they'll have to deal with.... still lovely to be here though!

oldqueenie · 05/04/2012 10:26

BD, remember, "you only need one buyer" as my teenaged looking estate agent used to say to me... GRRRR. i fel your pain. it reminds me why i have vowed never to move house again.
MI why would famous super model claim only to use water and carbolic soap (or similar) on her million pound skin?? wouldn't she be more likely to claim all beauty down to products of X company whose gunk she id=s being paid to endorse at product launch??

TheReturnOfStropperella · 05/04/2012 15:10

Thanks for your continuing support, crepeys. The atmosphere round here today is a bit strained as we have still not heard anything, despite having spoken to the specialist nurse yesterday morning to confirm that dh's case was definitely up for discussion at the team meeting yesterday. She said she would try and phone yesterday afternoon. Not a peep. Of course, you then start to worry (even more) that they have found something extra-specially nasty and are having to have more consultations. Nurse did say that sometimes they have to video-conference with the other hospital about treatment options in specific cases. Cripes, this is all so damn stressful and we haven't even reached the chopping and frying stage yet.

Dh is working like a maniac and looking peaky and wants me to do all the talking to the medics - which comes with its own set of probs. I have been vaguely entertaining the children with various low-cost and not very exciting things, but have ground to a halt today. I think we will go to see Pirates tomorrow. And then we have to do family stuff at the w/e, which I am feeling a bit meh about, especially as I don't think dh wants to do anything except hide at home.

All the circuit training is shrinking me. My thighs are substantially less thunderous than they were and I also seem to be able to run quite far these days. However, I don't really want to reduce my size any further as I can't afford to buy loads of new clothes. I have already had to reclaim a few things that I passed on to dd last year...

TheReturnOfStropperella · 05/04/2012 15:12

BD, you seem to have had some very strange house-hunters visiting you. Although on reflection I wish I had turned all the taps on in this house when we were viewing it (would have saved plumbing stress later). I do hope that you get a decent offer soon.

Blackduck · 05/04/2012 15:31

Stropps sending hugs. Go to see Pirates 'tis good for a laugh...
We have had much hilarity in the office over the garage door request. I did say to dp did he want to take today's paper with him to place prominently in the photo to prove he had opened the door :) I wanted to stand by the (open) door doing a big 'ta da' flourish :) Super sarcasm is the only thing keeping me sane at the moment....

bigTillyMint · 05/04/2012 15:40

Stropps, have you any nails left? And well done on all your circuit training, not that I thought that you had thighs that looked remotely thunderous.
And definitely go for Pirates rather than The Hunger Games - DH took DS and came back looking wrung out. DD has just come back from it and said it had a rubbish ending. I want to go and see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel Smile

BD, I hope the open garage door picture meets with approval!

DD is cooking tea tonight - chicken stuffed with pesto and wrapped in bacon, followed by cheesecake. Just slightly more ambitious than the cookery lessons at school!

TheReturnOfStropperella · 05/04/2012 19:22

Dh had a phone call at 6.30! He is now feeling a lot better, as the MRI has shown that the cancer is confined to the prostate. This is v. good news under the circs. He has another test on Tues and then consultant appmt on Fri next week. Hopefully the zapping of the nastiness will soon commence. He has just said to me that he will soon have a couple of questions for oldqueenie's dh, as he now has to go and research the treatment options they have given him.

Phew! Wine all round tonight :)

I wish everyone lovely Easter hols. Have fun on the IoW, BTM. We have been there a few times and enjoyed its quaint charms. Outrageously expensive ferry to get there, though!

MI, have a great time in Devon.

Ahhhhh, I feel like going to circuits, punching some things and then drinking half a bottle of wine. And that is what I am going to do. Grin

DukesOfTripHazard · 05/04/2012 19:48

That's a relief Stropps. Please pass on very best wishes from the drumming lady in your computer.

Haggy Easter Crepes. Off to DILs tomorrow see you next week.

OP posts:
wilbur · 05/04/2012 20:53

Oh Stropps, that is a relief, and I'm glad they've already come up with treatment options so that he can think about them over Easter. Always good to have positive choices rather than uncertainty, IMHO. Enjoy your kick boxing and wine.

We are kicking about at home over Easter, but planning to go and see new refurb of Kensington Palace on Saturday and then to the Diana playground. Never been before, but got Historic Royal Palace membership last summer which turns out to have been a rather good deal - have taken whole family to Tower, Hampton Court (3 times), Kew Palace and now Ken Palace all for £85.

BD - your story about the garage door made me laugh, I wish your dh had put a newspaper in the picture, that would have been ace. Fingers crossed people start to make decent offers now. This is supposed to be the proper start of the Spring market, they always say at this time of year.

Blackduck · 05/04/2012 21:00

Stropps fab news (on the circumstances) short post out to dinner (posh) sans ds!! Grin

TheReturnOfStropperella · 05/04/2012 22:03

Thank you :) I am feeling rather cheery after my first glass of wine. We are booked to go and see Pirates tomorrow afternoon and I think dh will be perfectly happy to go and do family things at the w/e now. Onwards and upwards. Or something like that.

It turns out that dh's consultant is someone I vaguely know (and I know his wife quite well). His son is in dd's class and only last week she came home grumbling because this boy had - as she claimed - "followed me around all day asking me out. I said no because he is an idiot and I do not fancy him". Ah, the joys of small town life. Hope the consultant will not bear a grudge :)
