New bowl of crisps, tuck in Ruby!

I am thrilled at this Pixi lust. Another of their things wot I like is the cheek gel in natural. It doesn't stay on very long but while it does it's well pretty.

I felt a bit rubbish yesterday and spent much too long hunched over the computer looking at not very edifying things. Today is better. Have shredded, spot cleaned the stair carpet, written a letter to DD who will be at an outdoor pursuity place with school next week and am now going out to buy some fabric conditioner at Wilkos. When the mice are away the cat does rather boring things, it would seem Blush.

am v glad you like my jeans, once you get used to the high waist they v comforting and holding-in; i wear them with converse/boots and i hope one day to achieve loafers

fingers crossed for everyone waiting for tomorrow - if it's any comfort, which i'm sure it's not - i'm in s.london and neither of my two in their respective years got anything at all at first but it's all ok now. i really hope all goes well though

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/02/2012 23:58

We have been out! Late! Without children! We went to see - um, can't remember what it is called in English - Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy? It was fantastic. Best film I have seen in ages. The only film I have seen in ages that was not suitable for children! And I thought Colin Firth looked mildly attractive in it too. He doesn't normally do anything for me at all. And I have come home and had a very large calvados. Yum.

Blackduck · 01/03/2012 05:43

"what's it called in English" - now you are just showing off ;)
Fingers crossed for all the school people. I said to dp ds will have left home and the dog will be dead before we move :( and considering this move is partly about schools that's an issue.

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2012 06:43

  • another s Londoner!

Feeling rather sick this morning.... hope DS cooperates and gets off to school early so I can get into work and sort out all my last minute preparations for the big O. Am looking forward to 5pm too Smile

TheReturnOfStropperella · 01/03/2012 09:38

BTM, I hope all the lesson obs go well. And fingers crossed for all those awaiting the announcement of school places.

I am somewhat at my wits' end with dd. She is complaining about feeling ill again - an upset stomach this time, so I'm pretty sure she's not faking it. She has only just finished a period that lasted for 3 weeks and it looks like she's about to start another one. The doctor gave her Ponstan (mefenamic acid) last week to try - she has already tried Cyclokapron (tranexamic acid) and that didn't work. Next stop - the low dose pill. I have isshoos with putting her on the pill, but it's looking like there is no other option. Which is so crap. Perimenopause, adolescence. Meh. I am also beginning to worry that there is a psychological component to all this feeling ill - but maybe it is all linked with the hormonal rampaging that is clearly going on in her system.

herbaceous · 01/03/2012 16:45

Hope you all got the schools you wanted for your little darlings. I'm dreading all that - I'm bound to get totally neurotic. I hated my secondary school with a passion, and still bear a grudge against my parents for sending me there. Not that I want to worry you!

Strops - I wonder if there's a psychological component. While I was unhappy at school, as mentioned, I spent a lot of time feeling very sick, not knowing it was psychosomatic. But it wouldn't explain the crazy periods, I grant you.

No news from baby friend, other than the baby's still in intensive care (as of yesterday). She's had to have an MRI scan, poor thing, but won't know the result for weeks. Meanwhile, friend and her DP are hiding out in a little room in the labour ward, hoping no-one sends them home.

In S&B news, I've had a go on that Dressipi site recommended on here, and it's rather fun. Though does require the input of vital statistics, which is hideously sobering. My waist used to be 26 inches. Now it's 32. And it's the bit I like best. Sob.

motherinferior · 01/03/2012 17:17

Just had email...entirely unsurprisingly, DD1 is in at Sid!

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2012 17:17

Pheeew, DD1 got into the school of choice. I suppose it wasn't in doubt, what with big bro being there already, but it's always good to see it in black and white.

MI - you should be able to log in and get your result now; I think Surrey uses the same admissions system as London. Fingers tightly crossed.

Hope Mr Ofsted was nice to you today, BTM. That calls for a stiff drink this evening....or do you have to be on the ball tomorrow as well?

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2012 17:18

Aah, X-post!

Is that OK, MI? Where did her mates end up?

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2012 17:20

Great news CV and MI Smile DS got his sibling place! Am hoping all his mates got what they were hoping for too.

motherinferior · 01/03/2012 17:21

It's the one she was really hoping for and I think will be absolutely fine. Results are zooming up. And nicely close too...

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2012 17:27

Yes, it will be just great MI - all the girls I know there are doing wellSmile

Mr Ofsted came and watched my literacy lesson - I was able to follow my plans (and even did my plenary!), which is no mean feat in our place, but no idea what he thought as he didn't feedback to me. Infact he didn't speak to any teachers / children AFAIK Hmm So it looks like planning again for possible visits tomorrow Sad Stiff drinks will be had tomorrow at 4pmGrin

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2012 17:44

Herbs, you wait, you just wait.....this'll be you before you know it......

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/03/2012 18:24

We had good news on schools today, too - nothing as momentous as new secondary school, but a sensible outcome to a question I asked re DD1's schooling if/when we return to UK, which means I may ask for a year's extension in Paris. Essentially, we now have a list of approved IB schools in London and agreement that they will help with fees, which is a huge relief.

Think we will eat out tonight as do not feel inclined to cook. There is a new resto at the end of the street, which I think we might try if it is not too $$$.

DukesOfTripHazard · 01/03/2012 18:48

MI that's a reliief. We spoke to an ex our school year 7-er from Sid tonight and she said 'it's easy to find your way around. It's fun and the teachers are fair'. We might want a bit more for our gals, obvs, but that sounds like a good review to me!

TheReturnOfStropperella · 01/03/2012 18:55

Glad to hear everyone seems to have got good news on the school front.

I have also been on the Dressipi site that Herbs mentioned. Blimey, putting in all the details was a bit of an eye-opener. And Herbs, be happy that you have a waist to measure. I measured where mine is supposed to be and it barely goes in at all from the rest of me. Some of the recommendations the site made for me were quite interesting, but some were barking. Nude shoes? Gack, not with my old lady red and blue legs. And trench coats? What is with trench coats? I hate them. I only ever look like Columbo in them...

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/03/2012 19:17

I think my gut waist measures more than my bosom.

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/03/2012 19:19

And I hate trench coats too. I lived in Vienna for a year and most of the Brits there used to sashay around in a trench coat and trilby, pretending they were like something out of the Third Man.

The fact that I look like a large sack of spuds tied in the middle has nothing to do with my dislike of trenchcoats. Oh no.

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2012 19:20

Oooh, just been on Dressipi site now! Strops, you are way far from rotund - is your tape measure working properly? It seemed fairly accurate for me on what styles I should avoid, but some of the suggestions were mutton, big time - would look lovely on DD though (who is petite rather than big-boned like meGrin)

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2012 19:22

And skinny legs usually make my legs look like sausages!

herbaceous · 01/03/2012 19:22

There's a gap in the market there, strops, for corned-beef colour court shoes 'to make the leg look longer'. I'd buy them for sure.

In other news, I believe I'll need to start frequenting the 'gifted and talented' forum. DS just read his name on a piece of paper from the nursery. Just pointed, and said 'that says Sam'. I wrote it again, in different handwriting, and he did it again.

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2012 19:27

Herbs, it's tights or fake tan that you need Grin

And well done to Sam!

TheReturnOfStropperella · 01/03/2012 19:52

Yep, corned-beef courts. Take me to them Grin

Blackduck · 01/03/2012 20:39

Glad it was good news on school front.
We have a viewing on Sunday so need to shunt boxes into some semblance of order - feck - its depressing....

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2012 21:10

Oh BD, I feel Angry for you.
