Tights help please!

I've got to wear a frock soon for a formal event. My legs are usually safely covered in trousers - or if tights absolutely necessary, at least 40 denier.

I tried on some dresses with 40denier tights and I think I need to grow up and wear something a bit more lady-like.

My legs are part scar, part freckle, part shaving dots.

What sort of thinner tights will look ok at a formal, and smooth over my blemishy legs a bit? The dress and shoes will be black. And I'd rather have black tights too.

What denier, and should I go sheer? What brands are good, and won't ladder the moment I look at them?

Thank god my knees will be covered by the dress!

Err on the safe side and go for 70 denier, any brand. Make sure there is atleast 5% lycra and you are good to go!

Not black but I absolutely adore the M&S Bare Cooling ladder resist in nude. My legs are pasty, freckly, thread veiny and horrible and these somehow smooth out the skin tone and make them look normal without being all shiny/fake tanned.

My fave tights secret for those who tend to ladder them are micro fishnets - they look fab and are highly resistant to catching. Nude would almost certainly look best

I really wouldn't do opaques at a posh do.

My favourite micronets are Levante, but I can't find them in nude atm, but the Jonathon Astons are good too
