Expensive designer jeans. Why?

Am new to snb and am loving it. Have ditched my mum jeans and have bought a pair of j brand jeans and a pair of 7 for all mankind. I got them for a steal on eBay, £23 and £16 respectively. Their new rrp were £118 and £229 Shock.
They look fine but no obvious difference in style/quality than my gap and uniqlo ones.
Are you paying for the label with designer jeans or are they really 'better' than the cheaper ones?

Jean's never last me that long, tbh so i usually stick to topshop, but I've got a next pair that so far are alright, I've only worn them once, so we'll see. But for £229.00 id much rather buy a nice dress or Jacket.

its not something I'd buy so its a no from me.

MrsCampbellBlack · 16/02/2012 21:19

Oh I love j brands and think the cut is better and they're more fashion forward. But I order them from the US so pay 50% of UK prices.

AmberNectarine · 16/02/2012 21:25

Yes, J brands a fabulous cut. Like MrsCB I buy from US or in the sales though. Also really like Nudie jeans.

TBF with gap and uniqlo you have named 2 of the better high street denim retailers.

Some designer jeans I don't really get on with, Current/Elliott have lovely designs, but v strange cut and I find mine go baggy very quickly. Likewise I just cannot get on with Goldisign.

mrsmartin · 16/02/2012 21:25

I wont even pay full price for the gap jeans that fit me beautifully...that said I spend more money on make up and skincare than most - I think it is just a case of having priorities for your s&b spends...

KateSpade · 16/02/2012 21:32

MrsMartin
me too, i'm such a Make-up Junkie...

I do spend a fortune on clothes though swell..

BettyBathroom · 16/02/2012 21:38

After trying on 30 pairs of jeans - I'd pay anything for a pair that fit. The pair I'm currently wearing cost £18 so I'm not a label junkie, I have paid up to £120 but I live in Jeans and they have to fit properly and I always wear them out.

snowmummy · 16/02/2012 21:43

Surely they're only a good cut if they're a good cut for you? I don't pay much for jeans these days - I end up crawling around the floor in them too much. In my previous life, before kids, I'd spend more but I had the money then!

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/02/2012 06:37

Amber - we are jeans twins - I too find Current/Elliott and Goldsign a poor fit on me. I tell you more good ones and thats the twiggys by james jeans.

worldgonecrazy · 17/02/2012 07:57

At that price I would question whether the j-brands are genuine, unless they are second hand?

I love my jbrands because they make my arse look fabulous. Just wish I could afford a new pair.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/02/2012 07:58

Yes worldgonecrazy - I'd be very wary of buying designer jeans on ebay as there are so many fakes around.

jocesar · 17/02/2012 08:19

They were second hand, how could I tell if they were fake?

Ooh, I'll have to try those mrsCB. I'm gutted I don't get on with CEs as I love the styles, but I have a pair of the roller skinnies and every time I wear them I get in a mood because I'm constantly hoiking them.

AmberNectarine · 17/02/2012 08:33

And OP if they were second hand I doubt they were fake. I won a pair of pretty much unworn 811s for £23! I felt for the seller a bit, as I'd have been gutted. Have them in other colours bought from Selfridges so know they are real.

MidnightinMoscow · 17/02/2012 08:34

The reason I like J-Brands is that they do not lose their shape after a day of wearing them, meaning you can wear them for a few days before they go in the wash. Most high street jeans just seem to go baggy on me.

Trills · 17/02/2012 08:35

If your body happens to be the exact right shape for a pair of cheap jeans, buy cheap jeans.

If your bum/thigh/hip/calf/whatever ratio happens to be the exact right shape for a pair of expensive jeans (and you can afford it) buy expensive jeans.

Bienchen · 17/02/2012 08:56

Very wise words Trills.

The thing that is currently annoying me about jeans is how thin the material seems to be.

I sold some J Brand cords for £60 odd the other day on eBay Sad People don't seem to snap them up like they do other brands.

I too love J Brands and Nudies. I notice they keep their shape far longer than my Topshop/Gap jeans and keep me in more. I cannot recommend the maternity J Brands highly enough.

Dawndonna · 17/02/2012 10:37

Can anyone tell me how Uniqlo come up on sizing please, big or small?
Thanks.
