Wondered what everyone made of the clothing size chart published in today's Guardian.

I always thought Zara sized smaller, but actually they size bigger!

Interesting, but I'm not about to shop at New Look just for a better fitting skirt Hmm
If a 10 didn't fit I'd happily buy a 12. Wouldn't bother me that it was 'bigger'.

Had a little play on the interactive graph thing, quite interesting. I had no idea Banana Republic sized so small!

Very interesting about French Connection being best for pears - the majority of my wardrobe (prob 70%) is from there so makes sense.

The only thing it doesn't take account of is shoulder width - as a pear with quite wide shoulders (but small bust so can't be hourglass) it can be quite problematic.

Well it was based on the shop's websites details of the sizing, which I'm not sure are accurate across the whole range in each shop. I know I am different sizes for suits and jeans in some shops. It would have been better if they had bought some clothes and measured them rather than trusting the shop because they were trying to say that you shouldn't do that!

Even the same type of clothes in the same shop can vary so much. I am just on the way down from being pretty large post pregnancy. My Topshop Baxter Jeans are a 32 and pretty snug for the first few hours and sit right under my disgusting c section over hang. I bought some Marthas from there yesterday and had to get a 30 (no way am I a 12 anywhere yet, least of all in Topshop in jeans!). I have worn them all day today and they are hanging off me...

No way on earth does Zara size bigger!!!!

MeltedChocolate · 15/02/2012 10:31

constance It sounds like we have the same body! I look top heavy because of my shoulders but my chest (boobs and rib cage) is tiny! My hips are a lot wider than my small chest and waist!

ConstanceChatterley · 15/02/2012 10:54

Oooh that's interesting meltedchocolate - where do you find good for clothes?

MrsSnow · 15/02/2012 11:05

In Next I am a 14, in Zara trousers I am a 16. Previously I accepted that most people sized up for Zara but according to this we should be sizing down or be the same size in Zara Hmm

So do Monsoon tops and skirts come up small? According to the chart I am a size bigger in their tops and skirts than in all the other shops - but I've never shopped there so wouldn't know! I would have thought their clothes come up large as they are on the more expensive side (in the list of shops on the chart, anyway).

albertswearingen · 15/02/2012 12:34

It was interesting but doesn't account for the fact that different clothes in the same shop are different sizes. That's the thing that drives me demented. I recently bought 2 pairs of the same jeans in M & S in the same size and they are different sizes - not massively so but ever so slightly different. It's just madness. I also bought 2 cardis 2 sizes different but the same size in reality.
