Dress for South of France wedding in July

I need some inspiration!

DH is an usher. wedding is at 5pm, it's not black tie. Then there is a wedding brunch the following morning, it's all at a chateau.

So need summery maxi (preferably) dress that is formal enough for a late pm wedding and a dress for the brunch.

£200 budget for both. Size 12 hourglass shape with bad legs. Don't mind strapless but have boobs so needs to work with a bra.

I really like the maxi dresses in Ted Baker at the moment but they are £200 plus.

Wise style gurus of mumsnet please help!

Oh and I am mid thirties with fair hair and skin so nude colour stuff looks terrible on me!

July in the SoF is hot (30*) so think practical as well i.e. no silk as it shows sweat stains so easily.

Which bit are you going to? We have a family house in the Languedoc and love the area.

eurochick · 15/02/2012 15:52

I was about to say the same, Pinot. It will be really bloody hot.

We also have family members with a house in the Languedoc!

About 30 miles south and inland from Bordeaux Yes am a bit worried about the heat, l lived in Provence for a while so know how baking it can be. Was hoping that more Atlantic side a bit further north might not be so bad!

Is it basically a British wedding abroad, or will there be quite a few French guests? If there are a lot of French guests, you will find that they are not dressed quite as formally as you would expect guests to do in the UK.

If you decide to wear a maxi-dress, I would wear a light-coloured summery one: dark may look odd.

Mango blue and patterned and quite a few different styles of maxis.

What are you thinking of wearing for the breakfast, do you want two maxis or are you willing to consider knee length?

NorthernNumpty · 16/02/2012 08:25

Wow thanks hadn't even thought of Mango! I think I was 17 and a size 8 last time I shopped there! I suspect their sizes come up small?

Yes willing to go shorter for breakfast, was thinking floral tea dress maybe?

I think you could be right about Mango sizing, it has been over 10 years since I shopped there, pre-dc. I think I would size up to be safe. I missed that you would consider strapless, I am sure I saw some lovely strapless and spaghetti strap maxis that were lovely, shopstyle is good for seeing all the different styles. Here you can shop by style/colour/price etc.

Pinot the house is in Capestang, on the Canal du Midi. Lots of vineyards round there too. Grin
