life after winter boots, what do you wear...

I must admit that I live in my boots and the time has come to thing about what I'm going to wear on my feet come spring time. I'm a leggings and tunic top sort of girl. Can anyone suggest a nice pair of shoes that will go with black tights/leggings, that possibly have a chunky heel, not to high but not flats either as I'm 5ft 8. I work in a school so walk around a lot so need to be comfy... Ohh and no more that £30 if possible. Thank you everso...

Unless there is an unexpected heatwave, I shall be wearing ankle boots until at least April or May....

iseenodust · 13/02/2012 17:27

The cycle goes boots, ankle boots then sandals bypassing shoes altogether. Shoes are only for with dresses.

OlympicEater · 13/02/2012 17:27

Lurking as I seem to go from flip-flops straight to winter boots and then back again but feel like I need something in between for spring / autumn.

Ballet pumps are my only alternative but as I do 6 miles walking on the school run they need to be very comfy and they get trashed in no time.

Magicmayhem · 13/02/2012 17:36

I've never tried ankle boots as my legs are so skinny slim, its hard enough to find boots for my calves let alone my ankles... glad its not just me that goes from heavy boots to sandals...

Converse.

JoantheFennel · 13/02/2012 17:41

I wear ballet flats with leggings, but fully prepared to hear this isn't high fashion any more

BikeRunSki · 13/02/2012 17:42

Boots in winter, as for as long as I can get away with.
Birkies in summer.
Converse in between (although have discovered Fit Flop sneakers recently too)
Land's End chunky ballet flats for work when it is not boot weather.

DharmaCeutical · 13/02/2012 17:43

I quite enjoyed a light brogue last year as an interim shoe.

vitaminC · 13/02/2012 17:46

These are nice and pretty cheap at the moment!

HouseOfGrittyBits · 13/02/2012 17:54

I'm concerned about this too - my entire day to day wardrobe consists of leggings and boots now.

Not keen to go back to boot cut jeans just so I can wear converse again... though it is the perfect mid-season solution if you actually have to walk anywhere.

And - why are sandals so bloody expensive?!! Anything half decent is over £70 - the same price as boots Confused

maybenow · 13/02/2012 18:15

ermmm... why can you not wear flats because you're 5'8"?? Confused
that's plenty tall enough to wear flats... and i reckon that flats are best with leggings/tunics for daytime.

SickOnMyShoulder · 13/02/2012 18:36

nice shoe boots

zebra flats

i've got these to see me through the 2-3 months between boots and flipflops. Also got a pair of red brougues from last year, but they go with jeans only

Pseudonymity · 13/02/2012 18:39

Why can't you wear Converse with skinny jeans? Surely that is how to wear them Confused

If you want to be totally trendy then brogues

If you want comfort then buy ballet pumps from somewhere like Clarks, jones or Russell bromley.

Not the flimsy ones, soled ones.
These are perfectly acceptable with leggings and skinnnies but make sure you have a bit of baggy scrunched up bit at bottom as though they are too long.

Pinkflipflop · 13/02/2012 18:56

these are fabulous and so comfy

Next snobs avert your eyes!!

cyb · 13/02/2012 19:02

Magic I ahve skinny ankles/calfs and think ankle boots look fine. it took some time to get used to having something taht didnt grip totally round my leg but I think it looks slouchy and louche Wink

ChiefPotterer · 13/02/2012 19:14

Rocket Dog Satire boots are excellent I literally live in mine. Good price on Amazon.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/02/2012 19:25

Ugh no to Converse and skinny jeans - unless you are a) a teenager or b) want to look like a golf club or Coco the Clown.

Ankle boots perfectly fine to wear up until about April imho. Lots of nice ones still around, including lots still in the Jones sale, although likely to be at least 40 pounds I'd think.

Otherwise, ditch the leggings and wear skirts, opaques and wedge heels.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/02/2012 19:25

And, as another skinny ankled person, I agree with Cyb!

HouseOfGrittyBits · 13/02/2012 19:40

I only wear skinny jeans if the bottoms are covered with boots or I look like a lumpy blue carrot.

HouseOfGrittyBits · 13/02/2012 19:43

I can't do heels AT ALL, and ballet pumps always fall off my feet if I try and walk in them (and they smell bad cos you can't wear socks, bleurgh). Do they do them with elastic like actual ballet shoes?

Looks like it's flip flops again this summer then, sigh.

pocketandsweet · 13/02/2012 20:07

Houseofgrittybits. try Bensimon ballet pumps- they have elastic in the front that keeps them on and can be thrown into the wash machine and come out fantastic. I wore my all last summer.
