Wardrobe make over now or after weight loss - or what clothes to buy during weight loss

I'm currently trying to lose weight. I have put on over 5st since moving to England in 2007 and I am just not happy anymore. Although I love to shop and spend too much really on clothes every month, there is not much in my wardrobe which I like. At the moment I really try to buy clothes that cover up my big tummy (I am apple shaped with slim legs and look like an V in most clothes).
I am now in a position where I have more time to cook healthily and exercise. I have already lost 7lbs (was 14st) and I am now wondering if I shall update my wardrobe now or when I have lost the weight? What are the best clothes to buy during weight loss?

I have put on 3st in the past year and have gone from a 6-8 to a smallish 12. I find that wrap dresses are the best thing for me as they can still be worn when I lose the weight. If you are a true apple shape then maybe an empire line dress will work better (ie tied from under the bust) but I say get a few key pieces that will make you feel good now and then treat yourself to a new wardrobe when you hit your target weight. Dresses are the way to go though - no waistbands to dig in/fall down Wink

Thanks MrsMartin. I already wear a lot of dresses (I hate the feeling of jeans/trousers at the moment, as I have slim legs compared to my upper body which is huge. I thought about wrap dresses, H&M does nice ones at the moment. I am trying to not spend much money on clothes at the moment, only on shoes and accessoires.

Hello Borntoshop, I am in a similar situation to you. I balloned to 14'5 in the summer and I just wasn't happy any more. I got myself a cheap well cut bootleg trouser suit (black) from Next in a size that fitted me (18) and a black wrap dress for work. I varied the tops that I was wearing under the suit and the dress (vest tops) and added BIG statement jewellery. As I lost the weight, I bought the same trousers in a smaller size (jacket still fitted) and tightened the dress. When I reached 13'7 I begun wearing (cheap from Primark) skinny jeans with tunic tops and knee length boots. At 12'10 I went back to Primark to buy the same jeans in a smaller size. I am now at 12'8 and I still have at least another stone to go, but I have started getting into some of my old clothes so I am effectively shopping from my own wardrobe. These are clothes which I hadn't worn since before I got pregnant !! DD is 4 by the way.

You are very wise not to spend too much money on clothes, treat yourself to a nice handbag if you want. Your shoe size may go down half a size too (mine did).

Good luck and keep it up, nothing, nothing tastes better than getting on the scales and seeing another pound off!!!
