Which wellies?

Not exactly exciting but I've always bought super cheap ones.

Would like to get some decent but not bank breaking ones.

Live in a village so they would be worn fairly regularly over fields etc and also in weather like this.

List of suggestions would be great.

People have recommended Duberry boots I would love some but way out of my budget :(

Can't go wrong with Hunter wellies - mine are 6 years old and still going strong

lessemin · 12/02/2012 14:00

I would get Muckers yardboots instead, they are warmer than wellies, easier to wear and I think they look nicer. :>

lessemin · 12/02/2012 14:01

Also they only cost about £30.

bonzo77 · 12/02/2012 14:14

I love my hunters.

threecurrantbuns · 12/02/2012 14:15

Thanks had mixed opinions on the hunter boots some have said they have started to crack around the ankles.

But looking online it seems you can pick them up for a middle ground price of 60ish quid

I see them in tkmaxx all the time for about £30

threecurrantbuns · 12/02/2012 14:26

I have just bought a Dubarry type boot by Toggi (120) look great and kept my feet warm in snow.will last forever.
My dh recently replaced his Hunters ( they leaked......apparently quality is not so good these days, since co taken over ? And they are not warm) with Muckboots with neoprene lining.v warm but not as attractive as Hunters.

threecurrantbuns · 12/02/2012 15:04

I'm very bewildered with all this choice never realised how much there was.

No idea what to buy or spend.

Just been on a sight called the Wellingtonbootco There is obviously the more traditional type wellies then the more leather boot style welly.

All a varied prices so I am really clueless.

So far heard lots of Duberry then duberry likes seems to be toggi and another make, something wood that look very similar too

Then the Hunter, aigle, le Cham.

I'm I right to be confused lol. At the prices they all are don't Manu to buy again

Just found some hunter st James canvas ones reduced to 60 (half price)??

I do hate having cold feet but could get well socks?

OP posts:
mrsmartin · 12/02/2012 15:14

I just wear thick socks with mine. I also have proper walking boots (north face) that I bought from go outdoors and I have winter trax for when it is icy (I find that the winter trax over my uggs on an icy day are the only safe option!) - it really depends what you need them for.

ConstanceChatterley · 12/02/2012 15:19

If wearing for walking etc, don't get standard Hunters - I found them cold, uncomfortable and not very grippy. Now have got Hunter Balmorals which are very grippy (get the neoprene or bamboo lined ones as they are very warm).

I've just ordered some welliebobs from Joules. Ankle length wellies.

threecurrantbuns · 12/02/2012 16:09

Don't want to be the barer of bad news but heard so many bad things about Joules wellies leaking they are what started my original hunt.

OP posts:
threecurrantbuns · 12/02/2012 16:11

Does anyone know if the Duberry equivalent boots would be suitable for a muddy unevened surface field walks?

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 12/02/2012 16:12

I did see a thread on here where some people said their Joules boots leaked but others were ok. Thought it was worth a go.

If they start leaking I think I'll get Hunter Balmorals next as they look nice.
