White Company Jersey Dresses -- What is Quality like? Also Long or Short Sleeve?

I'm thinking about buying a White Company Jersey Dress but wanted to know what the quality is like. Does it wash and wear well? Hesitant to spend so much on a casual dress if it will look shabby after one or two wearings.

Also what do you think would be more useful short sleeves or long sleeves? I though the short sleeves looked better on me but perhaps not as practical as the long sleeves.

Here are the two dresses I'm thinking of:

Would purchase in graphite colour.

I haven't washed my W-C dress yet (it's wool and cashmere - very scared!) but it fits beautifully. Both of those are gorgeous and the same kind of style as mine. I would be surprised if they did not wash well. If you are worried, just wash them on a 'hand wash' setting.

I've always found White Company clothes (adult and child) really poor quality - eg get saggy, faded and bobbly really quickly. I imagine I will look all yummy and willowy like the models but end up looking rubbish so now just bin all the catalogues on sight!
Sorry. That probably doesn't really answer your question

I haven't got any jersey WC dresses but I have 2 merino knit dresses and they are really lovely quality and very pleased with them (bought in sale though, not sure I would have paid £90 for each of them!).

Very tempted to get the long sleeved dress you have linked too, very nice.

There are usually codes floating around which might reduce the cost, returns policy is quite generous too (30 days iirc) so could order both and see?

mirpuppet · 10/02/2012 17:57

No Robbie that does help answer the question. I am a bit afraid it will bobble and get stretched out very easily.

Melted Chocolate thanks for advice, I wash almost everything in machine on quick "hand wash" setting and line dry helps my clothes last.

More opinions welcome.

I have bought a merino dress but mine bobbled very quickly despite not being worn with other woollen material.

I telephoned them and asked about a return label which was promptly dispatched; I was also given a full refund.

Based on that I would chance another puchase. Cannot speak for the quality of the jersey dress and I could have had a dress from an inferior batch but the after sales service was v good.

AmberNectarine · 10/02/2012 19:35

I have a l/s jersey dress from there and it bobbled v quickly. Not great for £65!

I buy White Company jersey dresses / tunics. They wash ok but do fade. Sizing can be a little iffy -the arms can be tight.Ordered about 4 before Christmas but only kept one and as I don't live in the U.K. returns are expensive. Check what the back looks like . I bought a tunic but the low round neck was also low at the back so it showed an expanse of white back! Had to ask dd to put bronzer on it. ..so I very rarely wear it.

anniewoo · 10/02/2012 20:54

Mirpuppet I thought the first one was lovely too.perhaps a bit low in the front for me for work.

mirpuppet · 11/02/2012 12:51

Thanks all. I may purchase -- but better to go in with knowledge that it is a one season dress.

Short or log sleeve?

I have lots as I use them as a no-think uniform at work. In my opinion the jersey is excellent quality, I haven't noticed any bobbling, or shrinking, and they are as good as new still.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/02/2012 15:08

I've got three, one of which is identical to the short sleeved one you've linked to. I find the quality of the jersey dresses excellent - they wash well, need little or no ironing and are comfortable and easy to wear. They do come up big though, so size down.

ameliagrey · 11/02/2012 17:03

I bought the short- sleeveless version you linked and am sending back. I am a size 10 and bought the SMALL. it makes me look very busty ( which I am not) but also shows off my arms in a very unflattering way- I don't have slim upper arms and they looked huge.

I also ordered the sweetheart neck dress and it is huge- the size small could fit 2 people insdie and it makes me look PG- it is goingback.

I have 3 of their dresses from last season- merino tunic, a dress, and the merino shift dress which are all fine.

I don't think bobbling is a sign of poor quality BTW- it happens on all wool.

I think their jersey dresses are a bit poor - they have a lot of lycra or something and it makes them look a bit cheap. I might try the one with longer sleeves that you linked but I think it could look slightly mumsy- on me anyway.

mirpuppet · 12/02/2012 08:38

Thanks ladies. I think I may give it a chancea s I did try on the short sleeve one and liked it because it made me look busty. Probably not the best for work; but great for visiting friends, outings to town, meals out etc.

I just wanted to say that I have two WC jersey dresses which I wear for work at least twice a week. The jersey is excellent. I wash them on delicates in the machine and then hang them over towel rail to dry and they look as good now as they did last year when I bought them. I have the short sleeve version which is very similar to the one you have linked too. I find it excellent with a cropped cardi over. A really easy no think outfit. I do wear them with the slip they sell as they are a little clingy. Compared to the jersey dresses I have bought from M&S, Boden, Top Shop and Monsoon they have worn brilliantly. Really there is no comparison in quality, I have already had a look at this years version and definitely plan to buy another one this year.

oliviafrombolivia · 12/02/2012 18:51

I would love to see some other colours though other than grey, black or navy..

shopalot · 12/02/2012 19:02

I agree Olivia. It gets a bit dull doesn't it but I add colour with scarves and jewellery.
