Normally quite excited the day before my birthday. I have 2 gorgeous kids (mostly) a husband who cooks and is generally great (mostly) and a job I love (mostly). So why is 40 bothering me? Just spent about a million pounds on new make up and skin products, hate all my clothes and my hair. All I want is a Mulberry bag and a new wardrobe. Husband is 5 years younger so feel like the big old frump in our house. I have no real personal style...skinny jeans and stripy tops and converse almost every day. Advise me please!! Or just tell me up shut up and count my blessings. Did 40 affect you???

Congratulations! No 40, did not affect me, but I reckon 50 might. Had another baby at 42, changed careers a few years later. Now that all my friends are planning their retirement/second homes/... I deal with a DD in reception, being self-employed in a seasonal business, etc. I'm no help, am I? Get a new haircut and maybe a great new colour. As for the Mulberry, they are ubiquitous now, and I have heard conflicting views re their quality, so I would count my blessings, enjoy my toyboy and settle for great hair.

Haircut and colour booked. Thank you. Made me feel better. As will the bottle of wine I'm about to drink when the kids have gone to bed. WinkGrin

The build up was stressful but I had an amazing year. 5 yrs later (noooooo! Someone got the figures wrong!) I am lighter than I was aged 40, have fab new hair do,some tweezerman tweezers and actually am v happy(when i have make up on!).laugh a lot, don't go on about my age ( my mother is like Joan Collins...never mentions her age!) and generally behave exactly as I did when I was 30 ( without stressing about young children).
obsessed with fashion too.
Enjoy it and forget he numbers
