Struggling with scarves

Ok, since being addicted to this site and listening to you all rave about scarves I thought I'd try out the look myself.

So I've duly bought scarf in a colour that complements me, I've studied the you tube thing about how to wear a scarf and I've practised lots of times.

But it still looks shit. Do I just lack a certain je ne sais quoi to wear a scarf...??

Does anyone else struggle to look good in scarf...?

how are you tying it? is it the right size?

valiumredhead · 07/02/2012 09:47

Maybe you are trying too hard - just bung it on Grin

QueenCadbury · 07/02/2012 09:53

Valium, I think you may be right Grin

Fishie, I've tried tying all ways and how would I know if it's the right size??

Maybe I should just go back to work and give up worrying about how to wear a scarf!

lol, i feel the same way, i see young things walking about looking all cool in their scarves, all seemingly placed right and i end up looking like Tom Baker or like I'm being garoted.

valiumredhead · 07/02/2012 10:00

The secret is to make sure the scarf is very long otherwise it ends up looking too Home Counties/ Queen Mumish.

fishie · 07/02/2012 10:19

don't do that loop thing. just wrap it round and let it dangle.

bessie26 · 07/02/2012 15:23

I am so glad you posted this Queen. I too have tried scarves but just feel more middle -aged and Hyacinth Bucket than I actually am. Really need tips as I am going wrong somewhere! I guess what you are actually wearing it with is the key??

I love that clip - I could watch it for hours!

I love scarves, but only wear long ones, never square. I find them a great way to pull together the colours of an outfit, so if I wear a pink top and a grey cardi I might wear a pink and grey scarf. I have a denim blue and white scarf which I often wear with jeans - it even has little purple flowers to match one of my jackets.

Primark has them for £4, nice and big and drapy.

bessie26 · 07/02/2012 19:00

OMG, that clip is fab!

puffylovett · 07/02/2012 21:09

Oh wow! That clip is amazing! I never knew hot to drape them 'just so', I lack the je ne sais quoi too :)

accessorizequeen · 08/02/2012 11:50

Ds2 (5) and I thoroughly enjoyed the scarf video, just fantastic! Grin

louby86 · 08/02/2012 19:54

That clip is brilliant!

talkingnonsense · 08/02/2012 20:08

I think you need a long neck to wear scarves- or at least not a short one! Non blobby features and not too big norks helps too. If you have big boobs the scarf can kind of sit on a shelf iyswim!

MrsSeanBean · 08/02/2012 21:43

The problem I've found with scarves is that if you just fling them on without trying they often look good but when you are getting ready to go out etc, and make an effort in assembling / tying them, they just look wrong! So the only tip I can give is 'just fling them on and go' which is probably not terribly helpful.

QueenCadbury · 11/02/2012 19:22

Thanks for your help everyone. I'm slowly gaining confidence to just fling it on!
