I have a PGCE interview on Wednesday, and I have no idea what to wear. Help me please!

I am short and fat (basically), and have a limited wardrobe of things to wear. I was thinking of trousers and some sort of top. But I have these shoes which I would quite like to wear - and I have trousers in brown and black.

Tops are more difficult - I do have several, but nothing with any red notes to echo the shoes.... I don't own a jacket, and my only cardigan is getting a bit shabby... so I AM going to have to spend some money, but really want to limit what I spend.

Any ideas?

floral £14
shell print £14
Though to be honest you could just wear a black top and add a pretty scarf to tie in with the shoes?

Good luck with interview!

Would a black polo neck jumper look OK do you think?

If you're short and fat steer well away from polo necks if you want my blunt advice.

I'd go with fox's advice of a black top, black cardi and a scarf with red hints. It doesn't have to be expensive or anything.

Good luck with the interview!

I'd love to find something like this in black. And in size 22

I need blunt advice! I am very rubbish at choosing clothes that look nice - I never have been any good!

this one?

Oakmaiden · 03/02/2012 19:13

Hm... doesn't look quite as drapey or full as the other one. Do you think it would look OK with trousers? Also the neckline is quite high - SCS was quite right - high necklines make me look fairly rubbish... like someone has cut my head off and stuck it on top of a pillow....

Ack - maybe I will just wear a sack, and hope to dazzle them with my sparkling personality so they don't notice...

Do you think this would be appropriate?

That's nice, the neckline is good. Team with a cardi (I picked up a nice black floaty type one in Sainsbury's the other day for about £8 I think), a scarf or jewellery and you'll be fine.

As long as you look "together" rather than suited and booted it'll be great, so let your personality shine through.

Oakmaiden · 03/02/2012 19:47

Cool - so I will go for that, black trousers, a necklace, black cardi and my new shoes.

Thank you so much style gurus of Mumsnet. :)

Thank you for your help.

Am nothing of a style guru whatsoever, but I kind of understand now what looks good on me. That said I still live in jeans and boots and a jumper! Any occasion to dress up has me panicking a little.

Hope it goes well!
