Hair colour advice needed

In my twenties I dyed my hair blue, orange red etc. I had it highlighted a couple of years ago but otherwise not done anything to it recently.

I'm now mid thirties but as my grey hair is becoming more visible (as my lovely mother pointed out this weekend) I want to colour it again and am leaning towards a 'colour' instead of a 'hair colour' iyswim.

But I do care (a bit) about not looking like a prat (which I wasn't bothered about in my twenties!) and am not sure what colour would suit me best...

I have short dark blond (and grey) hair that is quite thick and that I usually wear spiked up. I've always shied away from really dark colours as I'm quite pale but could they work?

Any help/ advice gratefully received!

No I would not dye your hair anything too dark because even if you can get away with it now, you won't be able to get rid of it that easily.

Can you afford to go to a hairdressers, because I think the best thing would be to get some highlights to break up the grey. You could get some funky colours mixed in and it would probably last for quite a long time, although the initial shell out would be expensive.

Also need to take account of eybrow colour. You can dye your eybrows as well but that is I imagine a pita and can sometimes look weird.
