Can you cycle in a Merrell Wakefield coat? Thinking of buying one Of these coats but I have a 10 minute leisurely cycle ride to station after dropping kids off at school so I need to be able to cycle in it and the style looks fairly tailored/ narrow. Does anyone cycle in theirs?

I would say no. They are quite fitted and I think you'd be quite restricted movement-wise. Great coat though.

I have ever tried it but would agree - no, it would ride up.

peggotty · 27/01/2012 17:50

You could if you unzipped it at the bottom - it has one of those 2-way zips, so I would say it's possible.

Lands end squall stadium coat has long poppered seam at rear which goes halfway up, so you unpopper that and would be able to cycle no probs.

YES!!! I do. I unzip it from the bottom a bit and it's fine. If it's raining heavily I find that my knees can get a bit wet and where the bottom is unzipped but it's never been enough to bother me. Much nicer than my old cycling cape. My ride is 15-20 mins pre-school run each way. I'm a pear shape and I find there's plenty of room. If it's raining heavily I tend to wear tights and boots- so no soggy trousers. I've had mine for over a year and my also cycling friend has now copied me and got one too (also for cycling).

Thanks for all the messages!- Mumsnet is great- I'm going to order it and have a quick test cycle ride round the block to see if I can cycle with it slightly unzipped as per FGM
Just one more question - does it come up small or large or true to size?

Yes, it is possible, I cycle in mine. Zip at the bottom does the trick Grin.

Re size L = 14 IMO. It is a fairly straigth-up-and-down style so does not allow for my big arse hourglass figures. It also has freakishly long sleeves - not just my opinion btw.

Great coat - my best MN inspired buy ever and has earned its cost in spades living in sunny Scotland as I do.

I would say yes, undo the bottom zip, they are fitted and have lovely long arms, great I would say. Sixzing is true sizes, L really fitted me well when I was a 14 and M is a 12 but S is 8-10 hence why mine is still unworn so far!!
