Bright skinny jeans - do you think you need to be super skinny and/or young to look good in them?

Tried on these today. Could not decide whether they looked really nice or I am just deluding myself. They fitted nicely around the waist and thighs but were quite fitted around the calves, not sure if a bit unflattering.

I am mid-30s. A size 10. But relatively chunky/curvy legs (esp calves) relative to my size. I look fine (I think) in black or blue denim skinny jeans.

Also, what would you wear with them?

I think bright skinnies are lovely! I guess if you were a real pear shape they might now be perfect, but otherwise I think they're great.

Besides, if you're a size 10 pretty much everything looks good on you!

Hopefully · 23/01/2012 20:40

not be perfect.

Really love the colour of those jeans. I'd wear them and am a size bigger than you! I think that ankle length flatters curvy legs so maybe try the shorter length? Id go for a simple oversized t shirt to wear with them in white or navy striped?

ujjayi · 23/01/2012 20:50

It sounds like we have a similar shape but I am sadly no longer in my 30s (41). I have been wearing coloured skinnies for the last 2 years. In fact my first pair were a similar colour to those you linked to but mine were Johnnie B. I still wear them now :). I also have purple and bubblegum pink.

I wear my coral skinnies with navy, camel or black. Love them in spring and cooler summer days with a slubby navy v neck tee and flip-flops.

Thanks for the replies. Ollie I think you are right about the length; I am average height but legs are on the short side (adding to the curvy/chunky effect!) and always have to roll up "standard" length skinnies which doesn't look as nice.

Me too Jacksterbear. I get mine shortened to ankle length to wear with flats in the summer and then just wear boots in the winter.

CointreauVersial · 23/01/2012 23:03

I just bought a similar pair, but in jade green, and I'm nearly 45. I am fairly slim of leg, though (size 10). I will wear them tucked into boots in the winter, then rolled up a couple of times with ballet flats or flip flops when the weather gets better.

You'll look great.

Like but ca tell
You colored jeans truly reduces your tips options

southeastastra · 24/01/2012 15:44

say that again fregley Grin tips?

noddyholder · 24/01/2012 16:03

Love red really summery and look great with a tan

AfternoonNap · 24/01/2012 16:28

For me it's not my age that put me off (and i'm older than you) but the fit :( . I tried these on yesterday and they really throttled my very ordinary size 12 calves. I'm not sure if it is the fabric but it really produced a deeply unflattering mottled sausage effect where they clung to me. eeeuuuggghhh

Jacksterbear · 24/01/2012 17:33

AfternoonNap you have hit the nail on the head there, that's exactly what I was afraid of with the ones I tried on!

Fregley - eh? Confused

size 12/14 here and 31. I wear them! I like my legs best though and find them flattering. I wear with ballet pumps or converse by day and heels at night with a fitted shirt or vest and a jacket/blazer

thenightsky · 24/01/2012 17:37

I think she likes them but she can't tell. I think she also believes you will reduce your tops options.

Fregley · 24/01/2012 17:41

Tops. Options for tops

AfternoonNap · 24/01/2012 19:07

elvis can you tell me where you get yours please? I also like my legs best and would love to find a really good pair that don't attack my calves. Thanks Thanks

elvisaintdead · 24/01/2012 19:14

I have some from Top shop and some from New look. The new look ones were dead cheap but I prfere them. hth
