Which shops do you never go in?

Pseudonymity · 21/01/2012 12:24

Especially if they are ones you used to shop in.

When I went shopping with my sister I realised that there are some shops that I just blank, as if they didn't exist.

Mine are:

Oasis
Warehouse
River Island
New Look
(these I used to shop in when I was a teenager)

Monsoon (too flouncy for me)
Next (not interested)
Barratts, Aldo

Very rarely go in the Body Shop these days.

Be interested to hear if I'm missing out on anything amazing.

shops I used to go in when I was younger but now don't:
Oasis
River Island
Kookai (do they still exist?)
Benetton (but maybe more because there is not one local to me)
Barratts
Lush

Shops I have never liked and never go in:
Primark (like a jumble sale)
TK Maxx (Ditto)
Jane Norman (pray tell, who is the woman who shops there?)
New Look (I just don't like the clothes much)
Hobbs (I look like my mother in the stuff)

Where I do go these days:
Boden (plain stuff only)
M&S (Limited Collection and odd item from petite range online)
Next (Petite fit jeans and trousers in the main)
Clarks
French Connection
Joules

Pinkflipflop · 21/01/2012 12:45

Primark
Peacocks
Barrats
New Look
Debenhams
FCUK
Monsoon
M&S

Love
Reiss, Oasis, HOF, Joules, NW3, Ted Baker

SP0104 · 21/01/2012 12:52

No to:
BHS (boooorrrriiinng)
Debenhams (ditto)
WH Smith (ditto)
Primark (if I want to walk over clothes dumped on the floor I can just go in SD bedroom)

Hollister (wtf - you cant even see in there its so dark)

Yes:
M&S (meal deals, per una and active wear)
Next
Select (suprisingly some nice casual wear)
Clarks
Hotel Chocolat (because you just have to)
Selfridges

ameliagrey · 21/01/2012 12:55

Be much easier to say which I do go in:

Jigsaw
White Company
White Stuff
Comptoir de C. ( buthave never bought)
Kew- rarely buy nowadays
M&S for knickers and bras
Uniqlo for jeans & Ts
Boden ( but it's not a shop)

TheGrimSweeper · 21/01/2012 12:57

Add to the list, dotty p's

Haziedoll · 21/01/2012 13:00

Don't go in:

River Island - too scruffy
Top Shop - too intimidating
Miss Selfridge "
Primark - jumble sale
Tk maxi - "

Do go in:

John Lewis
Zara
French Connection
Warehouse
Laura Ashley
Fat Face

I don't buy in any of the above but I do go in Grin

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 21/01/2012 13:07

Never go to;

White Stuff
Fat Face
Next
Monsoon

Always go to;

HofF
FC
Gap
Zara
Mango
M & S
Oasis

Sometimes go to;

Dotty P
Topshop
Wallis
Primark

Tattyhead78 · 21/01/2012 13:08

I think Jane Norman went bust, as did Kookai a while back (or it left the UK along with Benetton/Sisley and Promod). I don't go in Dorothy Perkins or New Look any more, but I do miss Kookai, Benetton/Sisley and Promod. I suppose Uniqlo, Mango and Zara have filled that particular hole though... IIRC Benetton was actually quite expensive and I used to find the Italian sizes a bit confusing.

Pseudonymity · 21/01/2012 13:24

I'm adding to my list:

Fat Face
White Stuff
Debenhams (a much scruffier HoF)
Dorothy Perkins

It's strange isn't it? So many shops just don't exist for me.

Sometimes it is to do with colours I think. Some shops just sell colours that don't suit me - Fat Face and White Stuff I'm looking at you.

startail · 21/01/2012 13:58

I go in almost everywhere due to having an impossible to buy for teen DD.
I'm banned from East because it's too expensive and I've had to mend my beautiful cool stupidly thin east dress about five times. It's in the needle work pile againSad

SuperDuperJezebel · 21/01/2012 14:38

I avoid the shops which don't do sizes that fit me and my giant arse! Yes, Topshop, I do mean you!

MarshaBrady · 21/01/2012 14:41

I don't bother with most of them.

Use NaP, Matches, theoutnet and my-wardrobe. Go into Liberty/ Matches.

I think working in an office/studio in Covent Garden years ago put me off most of the shops there.

noddyholder · 21/01/2012 14:42

Next Monsoon Fat Face White STuff Dorothy Perkins

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2012 14:45

Does anyone else think Fat Face is lovely but expensive for what it is?

FollowTheVan · 21/01/2012 14:45

Karen Millen
River Island
M&S
French Connection
Jane Norman
Gap

FollowTheVan · 21/01/2012 14:48

Always find stuff in Zara, H&M, White Stuff, Warehouse, John Lewis (mainly other brands like Phase Eight etc- Mum brands, basically Grin)

FollowTheVan · 21/01/2012 14:48

Oh, and Dotty P

dinkystinky · 21/01/2012 14:55

Topshop, H&M, Reiss. Only ever go into Primark for fleecy Pjs/sleep suit for kids. Never really shopped in Next for me - have got kids stuff there.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/01/2012 14:57

Tbh I hardly go in any of them.

Next - I sometimes look at their house stuff, as we have some v good sofas from them, but never, ever, ever look at the clothes.

Karen Millen - expensive and 'waggy'

Fat Face - not even sure if there is one in Birmingham but I wouldn't go there - toddler clothes in adult sizes

White Stuff - weird things

Mango - I liked this years and years ago but don't now and it all feels v cheap but isn't

Topshop - only go in if the dds drag me there - HATE it. Really expensive, appalling quality and even lovely slim little dd2 can never find anything in there that fits/looks nice

New Look - everybody in there seems to weigh at least 3 times more than I do and is orange

Wallis - explosion in a polyester factory

BHS - am amazed that they are still open tbh

Zara - hate this shop. Looks like a jumble sale and the sizing is insane.

Dorothy Perkins - only go in to buy socks for the dds

Monsoon - only get tights there; the clothes all bury me

I now realise why I can never find anything to wear!

Do go in -

The White Company
Warehouse (v occasionally for t-shirts or silk things, more so for bracelets)
H&M - for cheapo cotton jackets and for scarves
M&S Autograph or for knickers (not bras) and Autograph tights
Hobbs - for t-shirts and for jackets/coats/tights etc in the sales
Oasis - for jeans and accessories. Most of the clothes are polyester or acryllic though, which I won't buy
Linea at HOF - v occasionally but most of it is too long for me
Gap - for jeans, socks, tights -everything else is really bad quality now
Vivienne Westwood sales in Selfridges
V occasional skirts/knitwear in French Connection

ItsRoxie · 21/01/2012 14:59

All Saints, Phase Eight, Reiss, Karen Millen, Fat Face, White Stuff, Zara, Mango, River Island. I don't mind the clothes in some of these shops so sometimes I order online, but the staff are often hover too much in stores for my liking.

SucksToBeMe · 21/01/2012 15:14

Hate TKmaxx
But my empty bank account lets me go to Primark. No other choice i'm afraid!

SephoraRosebud · 21/01/2012 15:48

Never go in

Wallis- too much polyester
Top shop- too scarey
Next- expensive jumble sale clothes
Monsoon- too much man made materials in frumpy styles
East- ditto as above
Hobbs- seems to be catering for my mother instead of me these days

In fact, there's not much on the High St that I do like any more :-(

QuietOhSoQuiet · 21/01/2012 16:10

I now have to go into all these young shops you have stated above as dd 12 wants to visit them

Remus I agree they are either 12yr olds or 40 somethings who are huge and orange in new look

NewYearsRevolution · 21/01/2012 17:13

I am the same. Half the shops I never go in, including:

Miss Selfridge,
Dorothy Perkins.
Oasis,
Warehouse,
Zara,
Mango,
East,
Hobbs,
TK Maxx,
River Island,
Primark,
New Look.

No wonder I never have any luck shopping!

GraduallyGoingInsane · 21/01/2012 17:48

I used to go in/go in with DDs but feel too old for:
New Look
Topshop
Jack Wills
River Island
Oasis
Hollister/Abercrombie

I never go in:
Jane Norman - tacky, tarty. I try to keep the DDs away too!
Debenhams - just doesn't do it for me
Unliquo - just uninspiring really.
Next - boooring
Karen Millen - fit is very odd!

I always go in:
GAP - particularly for basics
Zara - workwear and pretty dresses
M&S - for underwear, pjs and Limited Collection/Autograph. Also had some great shoes from M&S.
French Connection - dresses. Dresses there are beautiful.
Hobbs - workwear
Jigsaw - workwear
White Company - although more for homeware really.
