Glycolic peel? Microdermabrasion? Oxygen? What will make my crap skin look better?

That's it really? Skin is awful and always has been, grey, blotchy, large pores. Am 40ish

Watching with interest, as my skin could do with some help.

Alpha H liquid gold glycolic acid treatment is really helping my skin. Its about £30 for 100mls, and you just wipe it over your face every other night.

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 21/01/2012 18:10

And what will happen?
I have crap skin too, have tried various miracle-working treatments, stare eagerly into the mirror...and always look exactly the same.

Glycolic peel works wonders
I am the same age, sleep deprived and stressed but at least now I have good skin and makeup sits really well to cover up the rest....

ClothesOfSand · 21/01/2012 18:40

What does glycolic acid do? I know nothing about it. Will it make my pores smaller?

DilysPrice · 22/01/2012 12:29

Bumping this again, because I'm sure there are more people out there with experience. It's sounding like a peel might be worth a try, but I think I'd be happier going professional for a first attempt.
Does anyone have any recommendations in South/Central London.

another vote for alpha H here. It's a glycolic acid lotion. I looked into glycolic peels but didn't want the down time. My pores are looking much smaller and i haven't had any redness.

CakeandRoses · 22/01/2012 14:28

i have regular microdermabrasions and whilst i love them and think they've kept my skin looking relatively unlined and fresh (considering i'm 40 and get fuck-all sleep). they're good for fine lines, pigmentation and to brighten the skin tho. they don't do much/anything for open pores. not convinced anything does tbh.

a change of diet might help you too. there is/was a thread on the diet area recently about the blood group diet which does seem to make a big difference for some people. i loosely follow it (i did 'by accident' iywim) and i think it works for me.

the lovely MNer thumbwitch who is a blood scientist knows lots about it and raves about it.

first sentence doesn't make sense after i chopped it around - ignore the 'whilst'

QuinnFabray · 22/01/2012 14:35

With the Alpha H my skin is less congested, my blackheads are clearing up, when nothing else has worked, and my pores are smaller. My skin generally looks brighter and even the broken thread veins around my nose seem to be less obvious. I'm not convinced its doing anything to my fine lines ( I'm 36 ), but it's early days yet.

I've been using this a couple of times a week www.feelunique.com/p/md-formulations-My-Personal-Peel-System?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=gen.

It's a 'peel at home kit' containing 20% glycolic acid and it leaves my skin looking so much better. Smoother, firmer and brighter. Also helps clear all the crap out of my pores. It's gentle - no actual skin peeling - but still effective.

I also use their cleansing products, I would advise using something containing glycolic acid for a couple of weeks before having any sort of glycolic peel as your skin will need to adjust. Even though I was already using glycolic products my face still stung like hell during the peel.

I'm going to step it up a level by having a professional glycolic peel and will continue to use the kit at home in-between sessions. I do it twice a week at the moment.
