Hi,

I have saved a bit of money and would like to invest it in a new bag. The bag should be timeless and classic.

So, fellow Mumsnetter any suggestions?

Hi, I have a black bayswater that I use for work and a black balenciaga day bag with regular hardware for shopping, holidays and weekends. I find the bal day bag really easy to use and I love it. It is a classis, timeless style but is more casual.

Are you looking for a work bag or a bag for casual use?

PuraVida · 23/01/2012 14:38

Do you want something special or an everyday bag?

I love the proenza schouler ps1 for something beautiful but useable. But then I'm a scruff at heart. It might be a bit casual for you

My sister-in-law is a Marc Jacobs addict

Me too, i love him.

I'd say Mulberry for instant classic envious status, if you've saved up that much.

However being a die hard (but cannot yet afford) chanel fan If you've got enough, i'd go chanel, however i do agree with mominatrix They have nearly doubled in price since i first became a 2.55 fan.

I had lots of money (and no super ego telling me off Grin), I'd go for:
Bottega Veneta or Chanel.

I am not keen on Mulberry. I prefer Miu Miu, Chloe and Marni.

I think you can't go wrong with any of the Celine bags, I think they're in a whole other league to pretty everything else currently available. (I'm saving up for one at present.) Heck, even Hermes and Chanel* bags are becoming a dime a dozen these days.

(I live in London and work in Knightsbridge, hence the last comment!)

*However, I do know someone with a dark grey felted Chanel bag which is quite possibly the most beautiful bag I've ever seen. Maybe the trick is to go for something a little different. Do plenty of homework and take your time, you'll know the right bag when you see it - mine is a classic indian red leather Prada satchel purchased over a decade ago.

PinkOlives · 23/01/2012 22:11

Agree about Chanel, timeless but everywhere now (well in London anyway) And the prices are ridiculous compared to what they were 5yrs ago.
Celine is gorgeous at the moment and I love ysl/givenchy.
Definitely not a mulberry, although I do own the bags I hate carrying them now as they are too, everywhere. It's lost is appeal

If you are in london i would go for a peruse around selfridges and do some online research.
Let us know what you go for

Thanks for all the advice. I will probably go for a Mulberry bag (Large Evelina Satchel).

Anyone know how much those beautiful Celine bags are? 1.bp.blogspot.com/-tARO7DpocJ8/UCbozRyGYZI/AAAAAAAAAkQ/XoncUyFgCuU/s1600/l_celine_bag.JPG

Beaverfeaver · 10/10/2012 20:58

I bought a Coach handbag last Christmas which I love and is such good quality.
Love it

Paribus · 10/10/2012 21:50

Newnames, these celine bags were around 1.8K a couple months ago. Don't know current prices, they are very in at the moment, so may be increased prices?

NewNames · 10/10/2012 21:53

Sad Oh man.

Thanks though.
