I have no idea what such an event might entail, sorry - but I am 5'2 and an hourglass shaped size 12. If it was a 'dress up' type of event I would wear my Vivienne Westwood black jersey dress, black opaques and either black heels or black wedges. If it was not so dressy, I'd wear the same dress but with boots and a biker jacket/denim jacket over it. But I am quite boring - and I love my dress! :)

what shape is the dress (i have jersey dresses)?

A bit like this but shorter and clingier (well, on me anyway!).

wow, that's lovely!

my black jersey dress is scoop neck, kicks out from the hips, just above the knee... it's nice but i have to hide my fat arms with a cardi.

Funnily enough, I was going to say similar! My black jersey dress is similar shape, just a bit cheaper. here

I am 5 ft 3 and its just above the knee. Makes my waist look tiny. (I hide my fat arms with a cardy too.

mmmm LIKE the pepperberry dress, may have to try that on thursday night... though i have enough black dresses... maybe i just need a belt?

Accessories certainly help make an outfit. I'm quite fond of a big flower corsage (think SJP) and always get compliments. I haven't ever worn a belt but love this one, would definitely recommend you try one.
