Bit of an odd question but does anyone know how men's jeans sizes translate to women's dress sizes??

Have been looking for a lovely pair of slouchy jeans to replace some that I got from Next last year and I think that the answer to my prayers might be to buy some men's loose-fit jeans but I haven't got a clue what size to get?

I obviously need to order them (from Next) as I am not going to go and try them on in a shop - I buy size 16 jeans and have just tried on DH's 38 ones and they were quite a bit too baggy - so does anyone know what size I would need?

Wouldn't they be too big on the waist? They will be cut to fit a man with no hips and waist.

I don't know - thought it might be worth ordering a pair just try and see what they are like Smile Might be a bad idea...

Are you straight-up-and-down in shape? Otherwise it won't work - to get a fit on the hips you'll have a gaping waistband. Maybe what you need are some kind of 'boyfriend' jean that is slouchy but still designed for ladies. (I hate that name for the jeans, but it describes what you want).

I'm an 8-10 and I buy a size 28/30 waist which tend to be shorter anyway so fine for 5ft nothing me.

No, I am not straight up and down by any stretch of the imagination [bluxh]

Have tried several types of 'boyfriend' jeans and they are just not slouchy and baggy enough unfortunately.

Were DH's jeans 2 inches too baggy, or 4 inches too baggy? You could go down a size to a 34.

RedwingWinter · 17/01/2012 21:12

Oops I mean 36 would be 2 inches smaller and 34 would be 4 inches ... I found a pair in 33 in which fits me reasonably and I'm a 12-14.

I wear men's jeans all the time (usually Levis, but have also had Top Man jeans) and find them really flattering. Well, when I say men's, I mean unisex. Although I am more an apple shape than an hourglass I am not straight up and down. If you do have a high waist to hip ratio though then they probably won't work. The size is basically your waist size. Some also have a separate leg length. I am a size 12 and I wear size 30 jeans and usually 30" waist on skirts and dresses. Mind you, when I measured my waist with a tape measure it reads 32" but 32 is often too big when I order stuff online in that size.

I'm an 18 and an old pair of dh's 38's are baggy and loose on me so I'd go for a 36. When I was a size 12 I used to wear 30/32's sob!
