Help a make-up dunce with something for lips?

In the past I have been very much a make-up-for-special-occasions-only sort of a person. But I wanted to try and take a bit of time for myself, as well as look a tad more groomed, so trying to resolve to take a few minutes to do my face every day.

Visited Bare Minerals counter based on recommendations here and really like their stuff....came away with the face starter kit thingy and some eye bits. The lady put lip gloss on me which looked good but I hate the stickiness of it and the fact it comes off on a glass / sticks to your hair in the wind etc.

Any recommendations for something for lips that is:
a) Easy and quick to apply - if I have to faff with lip liners and the rest I just won't do it.
b) Fairly natural looking - not used to wearing make up so a little bit looks a lot to me iyswim

How about a tinted lip balm? If your make up is natural the it would be ok, non sticky, moisturising and a hint of colour.

I too hate the stickiness of lip gloss can't understand how people wear it. I use Clinique Superbalm moisturising lip gloss and clarins instant light Natural Lip Perfector neither are sticky

I love the pink tin of Vaseline lip therapy for a hint of colour.

Lancome juicy tubes are amazing. Not sticky, They don't streak across your face when hair blows onto your lips, gorgeous subtle colours, you can add more on if you want more colour and they moisturise your lips so they are really soft after using. They taste so good too.

If you don't like your lip gloss sticky, I would probably steer clear of Lancome Juicy Tubes.

If I were you I would try an ultra sheer lipstick, such as Chanel Rouge Coco Shine. They are very sheer and lightweight, but with a glossy texture. They come in plenty of lovely natural shades, so if you're after something you can wear with anything and is a no-brainer to apply I would give them a go.

Dior Addict Lip Glow is perfect for adding a hint of colour but is not at all sticky as it has a balm like consistency and you could literally apply it with your eyes closed! It's quite like a lip balm but colour adapts to give a natural pinky tint and is very glossy looking for a balm. Also really moisturising and smells lovely. First time I bought it I thought it was on the pricey side but now wouldn't be without it!

I love L'Oreal 6hr glam shine, it lasts a bit longer than the usuals (not 6 hrs though), is not sticky, comes in great colours and I think it's about £6-7. My favourite, and I've tried most.

Chantecaille Lip Chic is brilliant. It's a very sheer, glossy lipstick which plumps lips slightly. Application is foolproof, it lasts longer than a gloss and you don't look too "made up" when wearing it.

I love " Tea Rose" a dusky rose colour. I also like " Geranium" which is more if a peachy shade.

Thank you very much all for your suggestions.

I will go and hunt through ingredients lists (I should have said in my post I am allergic to petrochemicals so have to search carefully for lip stuff that doesn't aggravate my lips)

I'll add a couple to your list then: Max Factor Silk Gloss, like a lip balm. No7 Liplicious, glossy but not sticky.

skandi1 · 18/01/2012 10:41

If you don't like petrochemicals. You could try burts bees lip balm tint. 4 shades very light colour and lovely for lips. Nice and softening too. Waitrose and John lewis stock it. Think bigger boots do too.

I prefer to the Vaseline type things.
