Perfect jeans!

So following on from the bootcut /skinny jean thread in AIBU I have been inspired to find the perfect pair of jeans so though I would seek advice in the hallowed halls of style and beauty.

I have the age old problem of waist versus hips and every pair of jeans I have tend to fit for the first 20 minutes and then end up so baggy that I have to hitch them back up every 5 minutes which I hate.

There is no way I could wear skinny (curvy size 12) - any suggestions? Please........................please.................

Hello. This thread is a little old now and some of the recommendations may be out of date. Whatever style you’re looking for, take a gander at our round-up of Mumsnetters’ favourite jeans for more recent suggestions. MNHQ.

Gap Long and Lean (you don't need to be Long and Lean - that is way they are supposed to make you look!)

TS Jessies.

Budget? There are probably designer miracle workers out there, but I have started off with the £50 and under options.

redredruby · 17/01/2012 09:36

thanks notyummy - I have tried long and lean but they ended up really saggy, when I sat down you could see half my bottom!

In terms of budget happy to spend up to £300 if they fit and look good!

I would suggest you go to a denim specialist shop, try on loads of pairs and let the staff guide/advise you.

Not sure where you are based, put places to look out for are:

Selfridges
Trilogy
Donna Ida

True Religion Brand Jeans

Paige Premium Denim Hollywood Hills

Citizens of Humanity Amber Mid Rise Boot cut

Friends recommend the first two, and I have experience of COH.

MidnightinMoscow · 17/01/2012 09:52

I think that is your best bet.

If you find a few pairs, try them on make sure you are happy with the fit and then order online from the US. Shopbop or Revolve will give you a great price, even with taxes on top.

Means you'll be able to buy more pairs. Grin

One thing I would say though is that I still wear my high street jeans for mucky days with DS. I rate French Connection skinnies, worth a try on at least?

dexter73 · 17/01/2012 09:53

I love these and these from Uniqlo. They fit me so well and I am pear shaped. They also don't go baggy.

MidnightinMoscow · 17/01/2012 09:53

J Brand 811's are getting good reviews.

Me, I love J brand 910's, as they are a 29 inch leg and I am only 5'4.

monkeysmama · 17/01/2012 09:55

You could try Nudie High Kai. They're high waisted and are a slim straight leg (despite the description) They are very flattering. I love Nudie jeans. They wash really well and last years. The Starcy is a slim boot cut style but is low rise. You might like them though as they fit very well.

MrsCampbellBlack · 17/01/2012 10:10

If you look on the donna ida website there's a denim clinic which shows which styles/brands work best for your shape. You can also send them a photo of yourself and they'll make a recommendation.

[spot whose been to a donna ida focus group recently]

Levis curve are the best fit I've ever had.

redredruby · 17/01/2012 20:44

Thanks everyone for suggestions, I particularly like the idea of a denim clinic!

Sue52, I was looking at the levi curve, which ones did you go for? Do the jeans hold their shape well? I am sick of jeans that once worn end up all saggy after 10 minutes Angry

There is a useful article on jeans in this month's Good Housekeeping. They feature jeans for all shapes and where to buy them.

DukesOfTripHazard · 17/01/2012 20:49

Levi Curve fan here too. Skinnies in demi curve for me. Keep their shape beautifully. Effortless to wear, zero hoiking up.

dearbagpuss · 17/01/2012 20:49

I am the same size and find Fatface contour slim fit well: they're stretchy and soft too. Also come in leg 30" so made for short arses like me Grin

redredruby · 17/01/2012 21:13

that's interesting bagpussm because i have fatface jeans and they end up really baggy when wearing them.....it is me isn't it, I am a freak Sad

OP posts:
dearbagpuss · 17/01/2012 23:37

I'm sure it's not you being a freak! Fatface are generous sizing, maybe size down? Don't all jeans bag to some extent after one wear though? Smile

berri · 18/01/2012 01:21

The ONLY jeans I've ever tried which haven't gone at least a size bigger are James Jeans.

I think it's to do with them not being too 'hard' in the first place iyswim - and I've literally bought hundreds of pairs over the last 10 years I reckon! They still fit the same as when I bought them 6 months ago, and I don't have to wash them to get their shape back, like all my others.

sue52 · 18/01/2012 09:36

I like the levis Demi Curve. I wear straight with heels and skinny with flats. They do hold their shape well. I can honestly say that in my many years of jeans wearing, these are the best.

notyummy · 18/01/2012 09:44

Look for the % of elestane/spandex before buying, as that can indicate whether they will hold their shape for longer than 5 minutes. 4% or more is good. Less than 2% isn't.

And yes - Fat Face are MASSIVE! Def size down.

JessieEssex · 18/01/2012 09:46

Next Slim Fit are really nice - I've got two pairs and I think that they hold their shape well.

Bunbaker · 18/01/2012 15:11

Do the Levis "give" a little after wearing. I have tried some on and they are a good fit, but I find them too tight to be comfortable. If I bought the next size up would I be hitching up my jeans all the time?
