My size 10/12 5'5" DD1 does not do fashion, but she does like going shopping with me.
Given around £35 what would your teens like?

Bump anyone MN with a teen DD can you ask them what they'd like to buy.
I wandered all round town yesterday and drew a total blank.
The only teens I ever meet are in guide/ ranger Hoody and jeans, school uniform or DDs partners in crime who don't do fashion either.

Well my Dd wants Orange shorts and/or leggings
Yet another hoodie
& a ball gown

So I wouldn't take her advise.....sorry

KatyMac · 17/01/2012 19:12

Oh or orange dungarees

(BTW DD does not suit orange)

fergoose · 17/01/2012 19:15

Mine wants Superdry hoodie or Superdry lumberjack jacket, skinny jeans and converse.

There is an official Superdry shop on eBay which are lots cheaper than in store - just check measurements carefully as a size medium seems to be equivalent of a size 8 - their sizing does seem very small.

oreocrumbs · 17/01/2012 19:15

I have a DSD 14, can't help much, she has zero intrest in fashion either, she mainly wears jeans/cargo pants, and a band t shirt. I asked her and she said she would get a new pair of converse (would £35 buy that?) or some new band t shirts. She quite likes accessories though, belts, bracelets (well sweat bands, leather straps that kind of thing Confused)

GraduallyGoingInsane · 17/01/2012 19:35

I have a DD (15) and a DD (13). Based on what I've been nagged about most recently:

DD15 would like another pair of Abercrombie skinny jeans, some black ankle boots, a cream lace bodycon style dress from Topshop, a pink and blue checked shirt from Abercrombie, a ridiculously short and age inappropriate dress from Aqua and bronze ballet flats.

DD13 would like another Jack Wills hoody, some purple converse, some denim shorts, a superdry t-shirt and a black body con skirt.

In general, they both go for anything from Topshop, Jack Wills, Hollister, River Island, Superdry and Abercrombie. Jeans, denim shorts, checked shirts and body con style skirts/dresses are popular.

QuietOhSoQuiet · 17/01/2012 19:41

Mine is slightly younger, for christmas sha had a spuerdry coat which she adores

This evening she has asked me for a pair of red skinny jeans (apparently coulered skinnies are in)

she has asked dh who is currently in the states to bring her back a pair of yellow converse

Murmansk · 17/01/2012 19:42

Shorts, shorts, shorts. Jeans. Shorts. Some hoodies.

As much jewellery as you can carry.

monkeysmama · 17/01/2012 20:09

My 14yo sister wanted fleece lined DMs & a Hollister hoodie for Christmas.

Tenebrist · 17/01/2012 20:12

Jeans (can be blue, black, faded, coloured etc) with a t-shirt which must NOT be pink or girly. Hoodie on top (similarly not pink).

Shorts (any colour except pink obv.) with thick tights or leggings underneath.

Absolutely no dresses or skirts, but she will wear a short dress as a long top with trousers.

Scarf draped around neck, checks are popular.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/01/2012 20:58

Dd2 is 14, about 5'4 and a size 8. She has quite 'sturdy' legs, so refuses to wear skinny jeans.

She lives in -

denim shorts or khaki shorts or black shorts, worn with opaque tights, a shirt tucked in and buttoned all the way up and a grandad cardigan

or

khaki or navy or grey combats, a fairly fitted t-shirt or a baggier one tucked in or tied at the front or side, grandad cardigan or open denim shirt.

Or band t-shirts. If I wanted her to be v happy, I'd buy her band t-shirts.

Converse or biker boots or DMs with all of the above.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/01/2012 21:00

Urban Outfits is her favourite shop but she gets ideas there and then goes to the vintage shop nearby to buy old men's shirts etc.

teta · 18/01/2012 10:15

My dd likes anything by superdry [bought at Tk Maxx and sometimes on Brandalley].Tk Maxx is brilliant for bodycon type dresses for parties [and pretty girly ones] if you have the energy to search. Also we bought a really pretty tapestry princess coat for her there.I refuse to buy Jack Wills for her as i think its a rip-off.Very ocassionally shoes or accessories from M&S or Next and Converse in the summer [from Brandalley or Secret Sales].

startail · 18/01/2012 17:12

Thanks.
Shorts is a thought, I vetoed some shit brown ones last year. < mean mummy>
she likes checked shirts over vest top and jeans or denim skirt and leggings. Ballet flats is a good idea, she can't live in long boots all summer.
Brands pass her by so super drys a waste.
I saw a holster hoody I liked, but she wouldn't get it. Just as likely to wear her cheap guide camp one.
Hates trainers so I don't think she'd wear converse, also they are £45 in next, I know I want some purple ones!

With £35 dd1 would either go and buy one top from Hollister or go and hunt for some bargains in New look, depends on her mood.

She mostly wears, skinny jeans/leggings, hoodies, cardigans, shorts with tights, vest tops, slogan tops, and tracky bottoms for lounging around in.

BackforGood · 18/01/2012 17:21

OK, my dd is 13, so you might have to discount her, but she likes :

  • coloured, lace up pumps (£1 - £5 in Primark or local market), flat boots, ballet pumps for 'going out'.
  • jeans (she has a black pair with silver decoration on the back pockets at the moment she seems to live in)
  • hoodies...particularly of things she has been to (like a special Scout camp) but also her 'Twilight' one.
  • tracksuit bottoms and trainers for 'just around' or on camp
-massive, snuggly warm dressing gown
  • she has a couple of longish, very thin material cardis which get a lot of wear (can go with a dress or jeans, very adaptable)
HTH

13 is fine, I'm after 14th birthday shopping trip ideas.

ThatVikRinA22 · 21/01/2012 01:09

DD is 14 and loves:

converse (£37)
or anything from Hollister....Tshirts/hoodies/shirts/
denim shorts (to be worn with opaque tights)
skinny jeans (new look/primark)
hoody from Bank (various brands)

hth!

bruffin · 21/01/2012 01:17

DD 14
converses
tshirts from pulp or david and goliath
band t shirts/hoodies
skinny jeans

accidentprawn · 21/01/2012 08:24

DD (12)
anything hollister
skinny jeans in bright colours - she has purple, pink, green and yellow!
ballet pumps
boots
TK maxx is good

there is an age difference though

MrsBovary · 21/01/2012 14:54

My fourteen year old dd (sz 6-8) would buy a Johnnie B dress or skirt (she has several). Her other 'uniform' is skinny jeans and ballet flats, with pretty vintage/floral dress tops/tunics. She wouldn't wear a 'hoody' and dislikes 'fashionable' clothes or brands.

startail · 23/01/2012 21:33

You DDs style sounds just like one of her friends, who always looks really nice.
Unfortunately DD refuses to wear recognisable flowers, they have to be really abstract. I'd moan, but I tend to be the same.
What looks right on slightly built figures some how looks Mumsy on DD and me.
