Crappy nails!

My nails are terrible! They split and chip and I am fed up with having horrible nails!

Advice!?

I have tried NuNail which is good but I have to use a LOT constantly to get any affect. I also use Sally Hansen nail varnish for dry, brittle, chipping, splitting nails, which again isn't working as effectively as I would like it too. I have a generally good diet so HELP!

Is there a product that is similar to gel or acrylic nails that cost way too much for me right now?

That was my problem. Sorry to say but I tried all the Sally Hansen, opi and other nail strengtheners but they didn't do what I hoped. So splashed out on gellish nails before Christmas. Lasted ages and when it came off the nails underneath were fab. Like I had hoped. Now putting the Sally Hansen stuff on and my nails are better than they have been in years.

I had a nail emergency after pulling off by biogels (don't ask) myself at home and really damaged my nails. Also my nails tend to flake too. For the lest 6 months I have been cutting them short and square (to get rud of the flaking bits) and applying OPI nail envy original every other day (I get it on ebay from the US, its so much cheaper). I take it all off and start again once a week. I found out that it doesn't work if you put nail varnish on top. After 3 months my nails were really good and now, 6 months later, absolutely amazing. Long, hard wearing, no chips or flakes. Forgot to say that I rub oil in the cuticles nearly every night before going to bed.
Good luck!

I'm a big OPI Nail Envy fan as well. Taking a daily silica supplement helps too (Boots , in the 3-for-2 vitamins section). My nails have always been weak, but mine got really bad after I had two Gelishs (sp?) in close succession last year. I was taking it off properly and all that, but it seemed to strip all the strength out. I always forget about the cuticle oil - I know I should!

I found sally hansen awful. Certainly didn't do what it said on the tin! oops sorry bottle

It sounds stupid, and I don't know WHY it works. But if I eat weetabix and / or drink Berocca every day, my nails grow really well and strong.

Sally Hansen is the pits!

I splashed out on that massively overpriced OPI stuff - used for two months. My nails are worse than ever, really awful. I wonder if it is the nail varnish remover that is damaging them (although it is a posh moisturising one).

I have nightmare nails. I've got small hands, small nails, and they are weak.
I wear latex or vinyl gloves at work and wash my hands 40+ times a day in cruddy NHS soap. And I cannot wear any nail product.
I work P/T 3 days. So if I want to make an intensive effort, or if my nails split (which is annoying and painful) I use OPI Nail Envy and Avoplex oil.

It works well, even though I can't use it as often as I'd like.

Give your nails a rest - ditch all the products and keep them nude for a month or two.

Use a nail clipper rather than a file to give yourself a blunt edge and then use one of the 4 way buffers (very lightly) to smooth any parts that look like they are flaking to prevent them snagging on anything. Clip them at least once a week.

I find eating jelly (Hartley's sugar free raspberry usually) gets them growing fast and makes them bendy and not brittle again. A daily calcium plus vitamin d supplement also works when I remember to take it.

I do this as a new year thing every year and by valentine's day a simple once over with a buffer leaves them all sparkly.

Thank you for all the advice - i'll give it a go!
