Do you have a Mums Purse?

clippityclop · 15/01/2012 21:27

Further to recent threads about mums wear, fleeces, crocs and stuff I don't go in for, I'm now convinced that I need a Mums Purse - huge, loads of room for cards, zip all the way round so nothing falls out pref. leather and colourful. What d you recommend?
(For the record I'm a quilty Barbour, skinny jeans or (not too) mini and opaques, squishy leather bag, nice scarf, long bob sort of mum. Handbag contains among other usual stuff a v.full Winnie the Pooh pencil case.

Ooooohhhh I could have written your message!! Have been looking at ted baker purses if that helps but not keen on the shiny style....
Would love to link but am somewhat technologically incompetent. Apologies. Grin
Will be following to see what's suggested....

Not leather, but a bargain.

Geordieminx · 15/01/2012 21:56

I think you need the Osprey Large Gaumont - it's exactly what you've described, comes in loads of colours (mock croc and what they call "wet look" leather - doesn't look wet to me). The zip is smoother than the orla kiely one (I've done a detailed comparison in John Lewis). Its expensive -£95 - but there are some reduced ones online and TK Maxx often have them in stick for much less ( I got my old one from there and a new one for Christmas ).

PippiL · 15/01/2012 22:46

I have the ted baker one. Black patent and with big bobbles, old stylie!

LOVE it. I get loads of comments, and it is the most glamourous thing about me!

Tranquilidade · 15/01/2012 22:52

I have a black Mulberry purse and love it. Don't care if it's mumsy

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 16/01/2012 02:40

Yes mines a mum purse, but it's Mulberry and delicious. It's midnight blue, fits everything in and cheers me everytime I use it.

I need a big purse, I am a hoarderGrin

SixtyFootDoll · 16/01/2012 06:46

Love your name and your joke mistress ploppy.
I asked a colleague earlier if he had a woman's hand. Cue blank look.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 16/01/2012 07:41

I have a mum purse, it is an oilcloth Cath Kidston one that DD got me for Christmas. It is wonderful, lots of room and nothing falls out (unlike my last crappy one where all the change would fall out and rattle round my bag)

ChooChooWowWow · 16/01/2012 11:07

I too am a Barbour, skinny jeans. nice scarf mum. My mum purse is from Osprey (TK Maxx).

I will never ever wear fleeces or crocs, ever. In fact I don't think my dc would even let me leave the house if I tried. They would assume I had gone crazy and have me committed.

ShatnersBassoon · 16/01/2012 11:10

Yes, from TKMaxx. It has a space for a photo of my children, of course.

ChiefPotterer · 16/01/2012 11:35

I have an oilcloth Cath Kidstone one too!. I love it plenty of room decent cardholder and beautiful too. Only thing it doesn't have is a wee photo holder always like a pic of hubby and kids...oh and money theres v little of that in there!.

psammyad · 16/01/2012 14:09

For some reason, I thought this was asking if you have a "Matron' Apron" aka pannus Confused.

I do, but I dress to disguise it Blush.

psammyad · 16/01/2012 14:10

(that's meant to be a "Matron's Apron")

RightUpMyRue · 16/01/2012 14:19

I have a fabulous mum purse. It's an Edina Ronay, slightly pearlised, purple leather job with pockets galore. I love it.

The only downside to having a lovely big-contains-all-your-stuff-purse is that if it's lost or stolen then everything is gone. Not so if you have separate coin, card and cash.

FaithHopeAndKevin · 16/01/2012 14:32

I have a Saddler one - possibly not quite in the league.

Sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 16/01/2012 14:40

That's a nice purse FaithHopeAndKevin, I have a similar one from Ollie&Nic.

clippityclop · 16/01/2012 15:03

Wow! Lovely to come home to such a fab response, thanks for your time all. Good to know I'm not alone in thinking that getting this right (at the age of 44) is important for a girl! Will spend some time checking out your ideas tonight and head to TKMax tomorrow. (On a mission).Flowers

LOL @ mums purse Grin - I have just realised that you described exactly what I have and I never realised I was 'mumsy'

I got a large teal leather purse a year or so ago from Kew. Lots of card spaces, a pocket for a photo of DC, a zipped bit, a bit for notes and a zip right round the edge.

But then I am also a skinny jeans or a denim - not too mini - skirt and opaques kind of a girl with the obligatory quilted jacket and boots.

Gertiegoolash · 16/01/2012 19:41

DH bought me accessories/purses/ for Christmas.
I love it

Gertiegoolash · 16/01/2012 19:44

Sorry link didn't work properly, its the purple one in the 3rd row down

sobenobu · 16/01/2012 19:49

I have this in grey which I bought from TK Maxx for £15.

MrsMeow · 16/01/2012 22:15

I have a Radley one, chosen because it has loads of room for my cards and a change compartment. It's a pain in the arse though, if I have more than 20p in change it keeps popping open Angry

I lurve the Cath Kidston ones. I might flog mine on fleabay actually...
