I fancy treating myself to some new clothes but don't want to buy a load of stuff in the sales that are so last year. Also got a hen do end March so would like some nice mix n match items. So what's in this spring..... are fitted cargos still in? Are capri length in? What style of tops/blouses etc. Ballet pumps? converse style????

If it makes any difference, I'm a sahm in mid 30s, 5ft8 size 10 whose too busy to find any time to look in the fashion mags!!!

Pastel ice cream colours, lace, middle calf pleated skirts, peplums, slightly 1950's (cross between Dolce Vita and American suburban housewife), sportswear inspired clothes in said pastels, pale denim (really!), mules (think 17th century), big plastic jewelery, broderie anglaise (big pattern), embellished flapper dresses.

Am currently flicking through Vogue!

Gladiators are big this spring/summer, big beaded gemstone bangles, cuff and bracelets, same with earrings/necklaces, big chunky gemstone type.

From what I've seen around, little Peter Pan collars seem in.

Aaaaaaargh. I'm 45.!!!
My DD would baulk at Peter Pan collars and she's 9 yo.

patterned trews, which I LOVE

Pastels. Bloody pastels.

Not sure how that's going to work for anyone over 25.

I think flowery prints are back too.

gregssausageroll · 14/01/2012 21:52

Seems like I won't be trendy this spring it all sounds bloody awful!

winkle2 · 14/01/2012 23:13

nautical is always in around springtime.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/01/2012 10:25

The idea of pastel coloured or printed trousers makes me feel ill. I have got a real soft spot for broderie anglaise though.

Pastels are in this coming season but they are more vibrant than traditional pastels - think muted neon rather than baby shades.

The trends incorporate Dior's New Look of the 50s with a nod to the 18th Century (which Dior borrowed from anyway to create the silhouette). Go rummage through your local vintage store for something original and much better quality than the high street.

The other big style story is The Great Gatsby. See see Lauren Laverne in today's Observer .

Great, thanks for replies. Safe to say i too am going to be so unfashionable this Spring! Will give the blouses a go.....but patterned trousers so isn't going to happen! Unless trousers with chocolate finger prints, squashed grapes, bit of spilt tea, droplets of weetabix count as patterned then i'll be right up there!!
