Hairy upper lip :-/

Pippinintherain · 31/12/2011 21:09

My hair is becoming more noticable above my lip. Very attractive.

Any recommendations for cream/bleaches etc that are good?

Am a wimp so threading is out and too embarrassed to go to a salon.

TIA

Waxing really is your best bet. Pick a salon in a different town if needs be, but trust me, they see it all and more everyday!

Bleaching can make it more noticeable depending on your skin tone... You just end up with blonde hairs instead of dark...

Beamur · 31/12/2011 21:13

A friend of mine had a lovely blond tache and she had electrolysis, which was expensive and slightly painful but means no more tache - only minimal regrowth.
Don't be too embarrassed to ask for help - a good beautician will make you feel perfectly comfortable.

Go to a salon for an "upper lip" wax, I've been going for years, it's fine, they've seen it all before.

Owlelf · 31/12/2011 21:17

Waxing is the best option in terms of results. There really is nothing to be embarrassed about, loads and loads of women get their upper lip waxed including me Wink.

I have done it myself and been pleased with the results. It's much easier than self waxing other trickier areas. However, I would suggest that you visit a salon for best results!!

Pippinintherain · 31/12/2011 21:18

Mmmm, a blond tash would not be such a good look.

Any home waxing kits that are good? Or am I just going to find a salon?

Creams and bleaches are no good as the hair is still there and you can still see it. I get my lip waxed as do most of my friends. Believe me, it is nowhere near as embarrassing as getting your bikini line waxed!

RecursiveMoon · 31/12/2011 21:23

Hmm, I wonder whether I need to do anything about my upper lip. Then I think that because I've wondered, the answer must be Yes Sad.

Does that make sense Grin?

Pippinintherain · 31/12/2011 21:26

Right. New Years resolution is to get my hairy face waxed at a salon.

Nooooo dexter73 Grin! Okay, I'll think about getting my mo seen to.

Can anyone tell us newbies about upkeep once waxing?

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 31/12/2011 21:57

Home waxing is just as good as salon waxing or threading IME. The pink Veet strips are very good. I do mine about every 10-14 days because I just don't like any hair on my upper and it takes literally 30 seconds. I barely get any redness and I have quite sensitive skin.

maydaychild · 31/12/2011 22:00

Do mine about once month now I had mirena fitted, seems to be my side effect.
Soft waxy strips are best. Cut them in half. Blast with hair dryer

Rub onto lip in direction of hair so down the hair as if you were stroking it.
Then, brace and rip up the other way. Try to stay close to skin so you rip parallel. Not away toward Mirror but up to your forehead.
Do at night!
Use anti redness cream immediately.

RecursiveMoon · 31/12/2011 22:03

maydaychild, what kind of anti-redness cream? I can imagine having a red upper lip too well Blush!

sprinkles77 · 31/12/2011 22:09

yes yes to veet wax strips. the mini facial ones cut in half. work a treat. dust skin with a little talc first if you tend to being greasy. you can get off any residue with baby oil on cotton wool. Do at night and use some witch hazel gel after. My re-growth is only long enough to wax again after 2-3 weeks, so I bleach in between. Just use the boots own brand bleach, 2 creams that you mix. jolene is fine, but I find it falls off my face and ends up all over the place.

daisie4 · 31/12/2011 22:13

I tried veet strips, warming them up in my hand - they just left a soft wax on my upper lip, and didn't take any hairs with them - what am I doing wrong????

MrsSnow · 31/12/2011 22:18

Rub some talc into your skin and inbetween the hair it'll give the wax something to hold on to. I normally do it with microwave hot wax rather than strips.

maydaychild · 31/12/2011 22:21

Pull faster daisie
My anti red cream is Eau thermals avene anti rouge from large boots

daisie4 · 31/12/2011 22:22

Oh will give it another go - very hard to pull fast though - it hurts Sad! Do you think the consistency is right?

sprinkles77 · 31/12/2011 22:25

daisie it might have been too warm. And yes pull faster. hold the skin down with one hand and rip off hard and fast in opposite direction to hair growth. You must hold the skin down or you will bruise. Practice first on another less sensitive area, like your leg.

crazynanna · 31/12/2011 22:26

My dd is 13,and is quite fair skinned with loads of dark hair (hairy back etc) and a hairy upper lip and hates it...I mean she has been known to put her hand over her mouth when talking Sad poor kid. I don't think it's that bad,but it's not about me is it? (pic on profile if you want to see if it's as bad as she thinks)

Anyway...we tried the veet things...and it nearly took 3 layers of skin off! Is she just too young for wax? Or should I have it done professionally?

crazynanna · 31/12/2011 22:27

No that's the kitten sorry...she is well hairy!

Will try and load them now

RecursiveMoon · 31/12/2011 22:28

Arg, it sounds so bloody painful that I might pay someone else to do (properly) for it me.

crazynanna · 31/12/2011 22:30

On now Smile

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 31/12/2011 22:31

Sally Hansen does a roll-on facial hair remover that is dead easy to use and painless.
