Hairy upper lip :-/

Pippinintherain · 31/12/2011 21:09

My hair is becoming more noticable above my lip. Very attractive.

Any recommendations for cream/bleaches etc that are good?

Am a wimp so threading is out and too embarrassed to go to a salon.

TIA

crazynanna, your DD is absolutely beautiful. I can't see any evidence of upper lip hair.

talkingnonsense · 31/12/2011 22:35

I used to wax and thread but kept getting ingrown hairs - very un attractive and some scarred- so now I use hair removal cream, very easy, no problems.

crazynanna · 31/12/2011 22:35

Thank you RecursiveMoon I said that to her too...she even shows me hairs on her knuckles Hmm and when I say "I can't see anything" she gets out the magnifying glass!...I would not be a teen again if you paid me!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 31/12/2011 22:35

She's gorgeous crazynanna Smile and I can't see any hair tbh.

If the wax strips are too much then I would take her to a salon.

I don't warm the strips at all because IME the wax sticks to the skin more than the hair.

crazynanna · 31/12/2011 22:37

MissBeeHiving Smile I think I will show her this thread.

Cathycat · 31/12/2011 22:40

I asked my beautician when I was having my eyebrows done. She could have taken financial advantage of me but actually said that the fine blonde down would be more easily removed with facial hair remover cream from Boots and she's right. No itchiness, redness and it stays away for a good amount of time.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 31/12/2011 22:49

Personally I used to wax but got scaly flaky skin for a free days.

I looked at some home threading vids on you tube and that is what I now do. I also pluck odd ones as they come through in.between threading.

Works well for me.

joanofarchitrave · 31/12/2011 22:54

Oh God she's adorable crazynanna Smile

What to say? It's not 'as bad as she thinks', but having read many hair threads on MN over the years, and having seen what happened to a friend of mine with a lot of facial hair, and then having developed serious hair myself with age, I would say, why not go and talk to an electrolysist (is that a word?) if it bothers her?

crazynanna · 31/12/2011 22:57

Thank you joanofarchitrave...is she old enough for electrolosis? Is it permanent?

She did prefer the veet 3rd degree burns to the hairy lip Hmm

Biscuitbreaker · 31/12/2011 23:09

Crazynanna - your dd is SO beautiful! I can't see anything at all - but maybe it is bothering her you could look into threading? May be a bit gentler on her skin.

crazynanna · 31/12/2011 23:15

Thank you Biscuit Smile we talked about threading...but she's a bit scared. I explained to her that anything that removes hair from the face is going to hurt.

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 31/12/2011 23:28

Cream doesn't!

crazynanna · 31/12/2011 23:29

Can you get facial cream LOTW? Is it effective? Smile

workshy · 31/12/2011 23:35

I use Veet sensitive skin cream -comes in a little pot with a brush so it's really easy to use :)

SebastionTheCrab · 01/01/2012 00:13

Aw, crazynanna she really is beautiful.
My DDs are mixed race and they do have obvious hair on their upper lip. My youngest also has a lot of hair on her back too.
I do feel bad for them. Us ladies have a hard enough time of de-fuzzing as it is let alone being a kid and with so much hair. They're too young at the moment but I'm dreading those teenage years. I was thinking of veeting it for them but seems it may not be a great idea. Confused

crazynanna · 01/01/2012 00:17

Thank you SebastionTheCrab Smile

She says she feel's like a biker Hmm
Poor teens....it's so hard

susiedaisy · 01/01/2012 00:25

Another one here who seems to have had more hair on face and chin since havin mirena coil fittedConfused, so I wax with veet strips or pop into local salon which I get around to doing first,

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 01/01/2012 00:44

There's a Sally Hansen roll-on one which is less messy than pots etc and gentler than the body hair remover so it doesn't burn or leave red patches.

cjbk1 · 01/01/2012 08:56

just wax it yourself at home with veet facial
wax strips sometimes you'll look on the mirror and need to wax sharpish so no time for beauty appointment you'll get good at it

BeattieBow · 01/01/2012 08:58

I get mine threaded at the same time as my eyebrows. Hurts about the same as waxing (which I did for the last few years - didn't seem to need it when I was younger), but lasts longer. apparently much better for your skin too.

MercyDulbottle · 01/01/2012 09:12

whispers

I shave.

DunderMifflin · 01/01/2012 09:26

Crazy - your daughter is sooo pretty!

My dd (9yrs) is also starting to stress about hairy legs, etc so I'm sure we'll be in the same position in a few years.

I'm quite hairy with dark hair and fair skin - my dh is black so I tell dd that she's lucky to have lovely brown skin that hides it better than mine.

Second that I'm glad not to be a teenager still!

ThompsonTwins · 01/01/2012 09:29

I "tweezer" my upper-lip and chin hairs every day - I stand in a strong light, wear my glasses and use a magnifying mirror. Am fanatical about this - because I do it so often (takes 2 minutes, sometimes less) it's neither too painful nor onerous. For the strips to be effective there have to enough hairs of a certain length - I just won't let mine grow - they pop out and they are pulled out! Cheap also.

Willabywallaby · 01/01/2012 09:32

I had a merina fitted last year and I've just noticed I'm growing one, lots of ideas now for removal!

Meglet · 01/01/2012 11:41

Over 20 years I've tried a lot of things. Even electrolysis didn't get rid of the hair permanently as I'm quite fuzzy.

The best wax strips IMO are the Parissa ones from Boots. Much better than Boots own facial waxing strips which I used to buy but were out of stock one day. The Parissa ones are so sticky you're not meant to do it on clean skin, presumably because they'll bring half the skin with it. The higher price is worth it.

If you're new to waxing it's best to do it in the evening, just do a tiny patch first and do it quick. I don't even get redness anymore, my skin is quite robust though (I can wax my legs and sunbathe without being burnt).
