Are you all nursing hangovers or just clearing up the post Christmas mess?

OP posts:
Blackduck · 03/01/2012 07:18

MrsS I think you should declare yourself an orphan. MI, I sure you are not that bad. I am heartened that I can actually still get my work trousers on, I clearly did not try hard enough this Christmas Grin
I am off to work and a zillion emails. Do has his diary homework to do and Dp is writing lectures, goodbye holidays......

DH has gone, DC are still in bed asleep. I think I should wake them for practice as they have to be up early for school tomorrow, but I don't know if I can face the moaning.

MrsS, I think the phone is an old lady thing - my mum got very very agitated when her phone wasn't working last year. She even called an old family friend (on a neighbours phone - she cannot at all get the hang of the mobile she got 5 years ago, but that's a whole other story) because he used to be a BT engineer in the 50's/60's and he drove 20 miles to see her despite being 85 himself!!! Clearly the world is at an end if your landline isn't workingGrin

DD has to make a 3D model for art. No guidelines - completely pointless homework. She wants to make a cake for it WTF?????

Well it would be quick and easy and would curry favour with her class, but WTF has it got to do with art (it will NOT resemble a choccywoccydoodah-esque extravagaza!)

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 03/01/2012 11:02

MrsS, it does sound like you need to utilise the "fuck the fuck off" line with your mother. I was able to forgive my mother a lot once she (eventually) got round to enjoying her gcs and being nice to them. But it sounds like your mother can't even manage that.

We are in for a bad-tempered day, as dd has procrastinated absolutely everything until the last minute and is even now still lying on the sofa in her pjs watching toddler tv (ds is having a regression in terms of tv) rather than clean out the fishtank, do a history project, clean the bathroom and sundry other tasks that have to be done before tomo. I am just psyching myself up for the battle, as I have already done the "calm reminder". Jeez. And I have to take her to the army surplus to get her army boots to complete her uniform - which has to be in pristine condition for CCF on Thurs, but is currently lying in a dusty pile in the corner of her room. I am so looking forward to watching her iron it. Because I AM NOT DOING IT. Oh no.

Blackduck · 03/01/2012 11:12

I know this is probably not helpful, but I am comforted to know that it isn't just me that is facing a, hum, challanging morning tomorrow Wink I have just emailed ds to remind him about his diary - this is part of his 'improve your literacy' drive (althoug, frankly, devouring Harry Potter is probably just as helpful).
I am pretty sure we are okay on school uniform (must locate shoes), but it has all rather gone to hell in a handcart in our house (still full of cold and less than arsed...)
MrsS I could lend you my mum or my mil who are both absolutely fab with gcs - take them out, cook with them, sit through cr*ppy films, buy them their favourite foods and generally think they are lovely children (bar the odd meltdown....)

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 03/01/2012 11:22

Dd's school uniform is definitely somewhere in her room. But I would put good money on her running around the house at 8.15am tomorrow morning shrieking "Who's got my tie?" Or "Ds has stolen my PE socks." My challenge at that point will be not to lose my temper. And the CCF army uniform (purchased at the end of last term) is just going to add a whole new level of joy to the mix.

HuffyTheSamphireSlayer · 03/01/2012 11:24

Hmm, looks like she is still watching "Enjy Benji" or some such gubbins. Time to do battle help her get organised. Wish me luck.

bigTillyMint · 03/01/2012 11:28

Huffy Grin

DD is glueing together some paper model thing that Grandma once sent and I just found in the back of the cupboard! She is going shopping in half an hour with a friend Grin However, DS has a friend coming round to play on the Wii........

Haven't even thought about uniformsBlush - must do that and bags before bed tonight! It will be just like in Huffy's house!

herbaceous · 03/01/2012 14:22

I have an S&B question!

DP bought me four bras from M&S for xmas. And matching pants. Nice idea, but a) they're all 32DD, which I have never been, and b) even if I swapped them for another size, M&S bras never seem to fit. He has permitted me to spend the money instead on another M&S garment.

I guess I've got about £60 to spend - what should I buy?

DukesOfTripHazard · 03/01/2012 14:33

Hello.

Thank you all for sustaining me over yuletide. I have been at rather a low ebb and finding myself tedious. However, New year's eve helped, with its dressing up and drinking and seeing the new year in with the dds for the first time. Then visit from lovely friends yesterday persuaded me to kick the 'woe is rubbish me' schtick into touch completely and I am being kinder to everyone, including myself.

I have no poker face and overflow with expressions of how I'm feeling and what I think. I too am no stranger to histrionics. I would like to get a grip. Who'd like a Make Histrionics History wristband? Grin

Seem to recall smugly putting washed PE kit away quite near the start of the hols. Don't recall where though.

Have huge pulsating zit on chin and have been ravenous for carbs and sugar all day. Can't find my Shred DVD despite proper looking and actually wanting to find it. Bigtilly, you are are not alone. For the first few weeks of using it previously I was basically weeing myself every time. Might have to get another copy.

Not sure I can make 20th but stars might suddenly collide to make it so.

DukesOfTripHazard · 03/01/2012 14:37

herbs. There are some nice jumpers/knitwear in the Limited Collection. Actually, the one I'm thinking of doesn't seem to be online.

I was touched by your posts about your dad over Christmas and really feel for you.

herbaceous · 03/01/2012 15:13

Lots of us seem to be feeling low/hysterical/inadequate at this low point of the year. And then pile on the pressure by demanding new years resolutions, etc, promising self-improvement and self-flagellation. I think we should just sit tight and hibernate until spring fills us once more with sprung.

Thanks for your kind words everybody about my dad. The lid on my emotions has now clanged shut again, but such kindness lets a little bit of steam out round the edge, and a little tear comes to the eye.

motherinferior · 03/01/2012 15:22

I am mildly cheered by the fact I found a Coast silk jersey wrap dress in my size and in colours that suit me for £6.99 in the local Age UK shop.

DukesOfTripHazard · 03/01/2012 16:16

Mrs S any chance you could steer me towards somewhere that does budget yet lovely 2 bed appartments for a couple o nights in pareeee?

MI congrats on dress, sounds goooood.

Blackduck · 03/01/2012 16:18

Hi Dukes, good to see you again and sorry you have been feeling down.

I heartily agree on resolution thingy - never got why people make them in January when they feel crap, the weather is crap, etc etc...doomed to failure. I have a Shred DVD somewhere, I will unearth it at some point (but am waiting to get rid of cold) and try to get into shape.
MI - you seem to have the eye when it comes to fantastic charity shop buys!
I am still umming and ahhring re house move, and at the same time trying to work out the logistics of it all! I need to approach my boss with a clever/workable solution as can't do the hours as they currently stand without driving us all into an early grave. Maybe I'll win the lottery tonight and it'll all be academic......

bigTillyMint · 03/01/2012 16:52

Hi DukesSmile Yes, get those stars to collide, or whatever, for the 20th!

I do not make New Years resolutions as I am crap at sticking to them. However, I did manage to do the shred again today, but I will definitely need the Tena ladies BlushSad Perhaps I need one of those tightener thingies you see adverts for at the back of magazines.....

Let's look to the future and plan our night outSmile Where to?

motherinferior · 03/01/2012 17:21

Oh yes, do let's.

The trick with charity shops is to go into all of them, a lot Blush

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2012 18:10

I have had a gorgeously lazy day today, watching back-to-back episodes of Pride & Prejudice on Gold, or some such channel - the one with Colin Firth in a wet shirt....mmm....

Only one child back to school tomorrow, so at least I can do the last-minute uniform/PE Kit panic in stages. Luckily neither school gave the DCs any homework to forget about do over the holidays, but I am going to hit the little blighters with a list of Thank You letters to be written, just to get them back into the swing of things.

Herbs, I think the trick with a shop voucher (or credit) is to put it away until you find a specific "gap" in your wardrobe, otherwise you will just fritter it away on some sale bargain that you don't really need. I always find a change of season opens up lots of opportunities for clothes-buying. M&S-wise, I'm liking Autograph at the moment.

Exercise....hmmm....I haven't done any running since the week before Christmas, and I was in no hurry to rush out into the howling wind and horizontal rain this morning. But I will get back to it once I am back at work, I will, I will, I will.

Well done on the Shredding, BTM. Your comments about Tena Lady take me back to our summer PGL Activity holiday - we did an activity called Aeroball, which involved bouncing on a trampoline while throwing a ball up into a basketball-type hoop. My pelvic floor coped admirably with both activities when done separately, but simultaneously....Blush. Let's just say, I had a sudden pressing need to excuse myself.

Any ideas yet on venues for the 20th? I'm wondering if I can afford to come and am perusing hotels. I'll be travelling in to/from Waterloo. Anyone got any suggestions yets?

bigTillyMint · 03/01/2012 21:45

CV, I did that between Christmas and New Year - they must be repeating them again!

Yes, I think the "jumping Jacks" (DD showed me the difference to a star jump!) did for me too. Tena ladies are looking good Sad

Despite being a 90% Londoner on FB, I am rubbish at trendy places to go out to in town. There were a few suggestions for the last meet up, but I can't remember what they were!
