Are you all nursing hangovers or just clearing up the post Christmas mess?

Of course we can move by easter, we would actually like to do it earlier. I think dp got most fed up at the 'this means we have three weeks to finish searches and do contracts' No, this means YOU have three weeks to finish searches and do contracts, we are signed, sealed and delivered on our purchase.

Full of bloody cold AGAIN and feeling rubbish. I am going to have a quiet weekend I think.

wilbur · 10/02/2012 09:34

BD - Easter will be here before you know it [looks out at snowy garden and crosses fingers]. You'll soon be standing in an excitingly empty new house wondering where the fuck you put the kettle. Grin Sorry you have a cold though, that's pants. I seem to have a lingering something, but it hasn't really got going, so I'm hoping it's just a mild one.

In other better news, I have had a flurry of bookings for our holiday rental place which had been looking a bit worryingly sparse, so that is great. It was supposed to be a place that we could go regularly and then rent out when we weren't there, but since dh's employment woes stared a couple of years ago, it's become more of a neccessary income and we haven't been up much. I am going up with the kids for nearly a week at half term though "working from home" so I'm really looking forward to that.

Have a great ski hol BTM - snow is supposed to be amazing. Have some vins chaud for us. Smile

Blackduck · 10/02/2012 09:40

wilbur, where's the holiday let? (always looking for a possible place to go)
I am working next week - ds will come in with me and go the holiday club here for a couple of days. Must remind dp he has him for two days :)

wilbur · 10/02/2012 10:15

BD - it's v. near Cirencester - in the Cotswolds Water Park area just south of where the Cotswolds "proper" start.

herbaceous · 10/02/2012 11:09

Ooh yes. I'm thinking about holidays. Somewhere with beach n stuff for DS, spot of culture for us, possible babysitting facilities, nice food, etc. Oh, and nice weather. Not much to ask surely!

Watched the film of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy last night. My crepey brain was audibly whirring trying to keep up with the plot. Fortunately, so was DP's: usually it's just me saying 'so, who was that?', 'was that a triple-bluff?', 'why did he do that?'

CointreauVersial · 10/02/2012 13:36

What a beautiful day! We had another couple of inches of snow last night on top of what was still there, and now the sky is blue and the sun is "cracking the stones". It doesn't half show up dirty windows, though.Blush

Off to Devon tomorrow - I have very efficiently done an online Tesco order to be delivered to the cottage on the first evening. The snow has fortunately meant that DS1's football match has been cancelled, so we can get going first thing. I'm thinking a couple of hours in Bath or Bristol en route - either of those worth a quick visit??

herbaceous · 10/02/2012 14:11

Ooh lovely CV. Hope it stays sunny for you for lots of bracing walks. Then plenty of cream teas, pasties, etc to replace those lost calories.

Both Bath and Bristol are worth a trip, yes. Bath probably easier if you've only got a couple of hours - the city centre's quite scenic and compact.

Or, stop at Wells and mooch around the cathedral and environs. I spend an utterly magical hour or so in the bishops palace gardens there years and years ago.

bigTillyMint · 10/02/2012 14:39

CV, we have been to Bristol and Bath quite a bit. @Bristol is a great museum, and there is another one about Bristol itself on the Dockside which was OK. Personally, I love Clifton - by the suspension bridge . The zoo is good too.

Bath obviously has the Roman baths (which DD and DS were very interested in - with the listening tour - went with DH while I shopped one timeWink) And Victoria Park on the outskirts is great with a nice little cafe.

Good plan with teh Tesco delivery - hope the snow doesn't stuff them up!

CointreauVersial · 10/02/2012 18:37

I don't think there is much snow out west - wasn't Strops feeling left out of all the snow talk recently? The weather map certainly shows it being a damned sight warmer than here. I have however packed a large number of bulky woollen garments and my microwaveable hotty.

True to form, I have got a cold. It has been bubbling under all week, but was unleashed in all its snotty glory today. Angry

I quite fancy the Roman Baths, actually. Something a little bit different.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 10/02/2012 21:48

The Roman Baths are v. gd. so I have heard tell. I last went to see them on a school visit in about 1975 when you could swim in them. Grin Keep meaning to take the offspring there, but haven't quite got round to it yet. Parking in Bath is an utter nightmare, though. Dunno about the snow situation up there, but down here we still have none. Quite chilly though (-5, last time I checked). There was plenty of snow in North Dorset, just none for us coast-dwellers.

I lived in Bath for 3 years, but deliberately did nothing cultural and can remember very little about it as I was mainly drunk, I am sorry to say. Although I did work at the Theatre Royal for a summer when I was less drunk and remember stepping on Lauren Bacall's foot during a first night party. Grin Not being very helpful with the travel advice, I know...

Slight shituation with the car yesterday evening - it decided not to start after I had done my Tesco shop. So it spent all night in the supermarket car park (I walked home with the frozen stuff). Sundry nitwits from assorted local garages tried and failed to start the bugger (including one who put the jump leads on the wrong terminals - aaaargh) until one finally got it right this afternoon. I am deeply unimpressed with the quality of the "professionals" consulted. Also with the quality of "advice" given to me over the phone last night by dh (self-appointed family car expert), which mainly consisted of him whingeing about the impossibility of working when I kept ringing him up about broken cars. Hmm

TheReturnOfStropperella · 10/02/2012 21:49

Have lovely hols, everyone who is going away!

bigTillyMint · 10/02/2012 21:58

Strops, love that you were mainly drunk in Bath Grin

You need to join up with the AA or other car rescue company - MUCH easier Wink

Am wishing I was staying here, wrapped in a duvet......

TheReturnOfStropperella · 10/02/2012 22:05

I lived in a real proper commune for a while. I have some good stories to tell about that, as drunk or not, I can't quite manage to forget all of it Grin

Grin Strops! The question is, did your....er.....light bulb get changed?

herbaceous · 10/02/2012 23:36

And was it a screw or a bayonet?

Was the above as near to a MN Friday night sex thread as we get :)
Bath, hum, good shops....(not very helpful I know)
Wilbur, oh I like the lakes thingy, can you pm details?
CV THAT is MY cold - you can keep it! I sound rough and feel worse this morning (but did get a bottle of red and a Bengali lemon out of my local Indian)

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/02/2012 09:31

I'd go to Bath for a few hours, in preference. All of my school trips seemed to be Bath/Bristol focused: Bristol Zoo, Roman baths, American Folk Museum, SS Great Britain.

wilbur · 11/02/2012 09:53

Another vore for Bath here - I love the Roman Baths - esp at this time of year when they will be all steamy in the cold air.

Blackduck, will PM you the details.

Sorry about your car, Stropps - hope it's something easily fixable. Nightmare time of year to be without transport.

I have had my haircut, in an attempt to feel less mumsy. It's quite a good one actually, and I'm pleased with it but I was quite nervous. In my usual delusional fashion, I'd taken in a picture of Michelle Williams - not with her current pixie crop, but from about a year ago when it was slightly longer - and asked to look like her. I have to give the hairdresser points for not snorting in my face although I did get various comments from her about how I should avoid looking "too boyish" (ie: you'll look like a bloke, and an old one at that).

motherinferior · 11/02/2012 10:03

I am due a pixie cut later [hopeful]. Have backache. Wish my sodding period would start properly too, as it is lurking bloatedly about my person.

DP has purchased Tinker Tailor for our domestic viewage tonight, Herbs.

wilbur · 11/02/2012 10:51

Do you want my pictures of Michelle Williams, MI? Grin You would definitelly be able to take the short crop she's got at the moment.

motherinferior · 11/02/2012 11:01

I'm thinking more Judi Dench Grin. I yearn for a Carey Mulligan, but am feeling too short and grumpy for that Grin

Blackduck · 11/02/2012 11:04

It's minus something stupid here and ruddy freezing. Just back from shopping and going to cook again like last weekend as that worked well (turning into domestic goddess here)
Feeling distinctly under the weather though. Hope everyone has a good half term. (I'm working)
