RIGHT new resolution starting now - I WILL BE more vain - join me??

omydarlin · 18/12/2011 17:28

Anyone want to join me in my New Years Resolution (starting now) to be more vain/groomed/less lazy about feeling and looking great?

I will log on to style and beauty at least twice a week for stylish/beauty/groomy tricks
I will not buy cheap "that'll do " rubbishy clothes any more (well ok but cheap but I have to love them)
I will look after my skin/hair/nails
I will respect my body by giving it lots of water fresh air and healthy food (am doing a weight loss trail thing for work so this should be easier.
I will stop going to work with greasy hair and flaky nail polish or clothes with holes in Xmas Blush

It strikes me that I don't care enough about maintaining my appearance - but conversely I do care when I suddenly catch myself in a shop window looking rough as a dog or when husband compliments me out of the blue because I have bothered to blow dry my hair!

Anyone want to join me for a bit of support or any advice how to become vain will be helpful - strikes me being more vain would be a good thing for me!

... bloody hell, just went and googled it cos I felt so guilty about being mean... and the internet says all kinds of weirdness!

Anyway not to hijack the thread (which is AWESOME) but BFN means a Big Fat Negative on a pregnancy test.

omydarlin · 21/12/2011 23:41

NatureAbhorsAHoover - hope you ok? It is the most rubbish time doing tests. Any chance you may get a different result a bit later in the month? I give you full permission to take an axe to a Christmas tree if you need to vent!

addictediam · 22/12/2011 06:27

Nature, I'm sorry. Do you have dc already? If its any consolation (which i know it isnt) we were ttc for 3 years before dd came along. It was the worst time for us. If you want to talk, shout, rant, vent etc feel free.

Hopefully · 22/12/2011 07:09

Poor you nature - I remember completely losing the will to live every time AF appeared when ttc. Hope you're feeling a teeny bit less blue today.

RidingInTheMidnightBlue · 22/12/2011 09:11

Aw, nature, hope you're feeling cheerier today.

hopefully I'm sorting my wardrobe out by chucking anything with holes in it, and charity shopping anything black or white or too small. Also organising it into outfits - things that I know go together to save the morning hassle of what to wear. And then I can go shopping!

darlin I've not been that beauty-licious this week, but will be working my way through the lists and tips on this thread tonight.

As for tinted moisturiser, I'm a fan of Olay (the one with max factor foundation in it). Tempted to try the Clinique one when it runs out though Grin.

Hopefully · 22/12/2011 09:50

Riding I aspire to organise my wardrobe into outfits. It would take so much stress out of my morning.

I have decided that once I've done my style day I'm going to traumatise my credit card building a proper capsule wardrobe, then just not shop for about 6 months! I seriously only have about three outfit options, and I am shrinking out of those as I lose the baby weight.

jen127 · 22/12/2011 10:20

Ok Can I join! I am 42 witha DS 9, still carrying baby weight Xmas Blush which could also have something to do with my partaking of the red stuff.
I want to lose at least 8lbs ( I am very small vertically) Then i want ot have nice nails, skin and hair for the year! Also i desire to fit in to one bikini this year and not two tied together Xmas Smile A swim ring can only conceal so much !

RidingInTheMidnightBlue · 22/12/2011 11:31

hopefully a big old wardrobe purge helped - I may have outfits, but there are only 3 of them Grin.

I'm also going to take my frumpy shoes to the charity shop. Not that I'll be pushing the buggy in jimmy choos from now on, but I do have an embarassing collection of vicar/librarian ones... Will keep one pair of boots (riding boot style), trusty converse, ballet flats and one pair of going out shoes for their annual outing. Plus flipflops, birkies and glads for the summer.

welcome jen

Hopefully · 22/12/2011 12:53

Grin at two bikinis Jen and at vicar shoes Riding

Just went to h&m to attempt to find an alternative Christmas outfit and came out with a (plain, boring) t-shirt and a pair of socks. Think I will force myself to return t-shirt as I am trying to move on a little bit from jeans and plain round neck long sleeved t-shirts.

In other news, I splashed out on a decent lipstick that actually suits me and the difference is amazing! I look positively healthy.

gothicsanta · 22/12/2011 15:50

Nature the hut can be a good place to vent.
Well I have been lurking I have sorted clothes to outfits am in process of sorting undies so they vaguely match until can justify matching ones. -I have plucked eyebrows and cut toe of sock in preparation of sock bunning tonightXmas Grin

scarlet76 · 22/12/2011 15:54

omydarlin - fingers crossed for you that you can pick up something you want in the sale and be smug that you paid less for it than I did Xmas Wink

Grin @ Vicar shoes. My MIL is a vicar!!!

Love the idea of wardrobe organisation.

scattyspice · 22/12/2011 16:43

Sorry for the BFN nature I remember the feeling Sad.

30 day shred = ex dvd. Right (thanks all). Thought it might be some kind of facial peel/exfoliation technique, don't know why Xmas Hmm.

Hopefully · 22/12/2011 16:52

Shredded skin. Nice. Grin

natashakaplinkyplop · 22/12/2011 17:14

I'm sat here with my hair covered in argan oil.
I wore mascara and nice clothes when I went out today and I walked for 2 hours, so that's my exercise sorted :o

scarlet76 · 22/12/2011 18:32

H has announced he is watching Spurs on the tele tonight. So I will be having a nice hot bath and pampering myself. I have a nice deep conditioning treatment so I hope to have soft and shiny hair tomorrow Xmas Grin
off with DC for a pub lunch with friends tomorrow. I head oop north on xmas eve. Trying to keep busy as after a torrid year, I am finding xmas quite tough. The expectation that we should all be so happy and have a perfect family life... Anyway, feeling good about myself helps me cope better... so what to wear for a cosy pub lunch with lovely friends?

addictediam · 22/12/2011 18:45

I didn't do very well today, I didnt manage to have a shower till 11, then I was so tired I just put some tracky bottoms and dh's hoody, and have spent most of the day asleep on the sofa while dh has been cleaning and sorting the house (have i mentioned im quite pregnant?!)

Tomorrow is a new day!

Hopefully · 22/12/2011 18:52

Scarlet I would go for some variation on the theme of skinnies with boots and nice knitwear (shockingly original, I know) or short skirt/opaques/boots/nice top. Or is it a posh pub? I could be tempted into the world of sequins if it is, since ot's Christmas! Sympathy to you and your rough year, hopefully Christmas will close it nicely and 2012 will be an improvement.

What on earth can I do with my stupidly long hair that involves it being tied back but is less dull than a pony tail? It is v straight and hairs are fine, but lots and lots of it. Some kind of bun?

Hopefully · 22/12/2011 18:53

addicted you can do whatever the hell you want, you're pregnant. Grin

msbaublestwinkle · 22/12/2011 19:41

Having a bit of a disastrous day today! We had a solstice party to go to, but DD1 (ADHD) had a meltdown so we had to leave early, then the sodding taxi driver over charged us by £4.

Will be buying the Clinique moisturiser after Christmas. I tried a sock bun in my hair this morning, but it looked silly as I have an oddly shaped hairline at the front. I might play with YouTube hair tutorials tomorrow while DP is out helping my Mum.

I have a vague plan for my clothes buying, there is a list! Which hopefully will keep me focused and prevent me from buying at random. I also need to get better at sending things back if I don't like them, rather than having a hissy fit about them Grin

echt · 22/12/2011 19:48

While I dress nicely and wear makeup every day for work, I over slob it at the weekend.

I's 6.45.a.m. and this thread has made me soak my feet prior to a pumice stoning and applying of the nail varnish. It's the only summer primping I do half well; a layer of base coat, 2 thin layers of color then top coat. Lasts for ages and I feel glam.

omydarlin · 23/12/2011 00:40

Hopefully I get lots of comments when I wear my hair like this www.next.co.uk/g855324s2#831858g85 with the aid of a bun ring thing you can get from Claires - but i'm sure it works just as well with a I get bored with my low side ponytail. Wearing my hair like this always makes me feel like some early sixties kitten.

This thread is so busy I will try to keep up ! Today I haven't done much as a big fat headache - blame this on actually stopping work early - imobilised me hopefully out of the way before xmas though.

Natureabhors hope you are feeling better today.

Christmas Day I am wearing a red short sleeved cowl neck jumper dress with skinnies and a very fine thin grey knit underneath. I also have a lovely vintage snowflake diamante brooch to wear. Nails will be Nails Inc Tate very chrismassy colour to match my dress Earring will be either Freshwater Pearl drops with the matching necklace (husband thought it would be amusing to "give to me for one Christmas) or these earrings which I love soo very much. I am getting some lovely stacking rings in my stocking but I don't know which designs .

Just bought some grown up essentials in the next sale a Tan leather bag here got for 30 quid
A Mac HERE got it the next size down fingers crossed eh? and a Lambswool Rich Tunic HERE also next size down

echt I always get so bored waiting for layers of varnish to dry how long does it generally take for you to do all that?

jen127 Lol at the bikinis too - I would love to fit in two though Xmas Blush

natashakaplinkyplop Argan oil - which brand are you using? have been considering giving this a go - have wavy frizzy hair that gets greasy easily at roots wdyt?

*Scarlet768 I am off to Pub lunch too - am wear a black polk dot tea dress , leggings , boots etc original huh ?

To the MNer scared of eyeshadow - cream eyeshadow! In a cream/beige/slightly shimmery colour and only use a tiny bit just along the lash line (if you are fair-skinned anyhow).

Also, recommend cream eyeshadow/blusher in general, if you are a bit clumsy/faffy/unsure then just use a little on your fingertip and it is fine to just smear a bit on as long as you make sure you blend it. Foolproof if you are cack-handed like me, and more natural and pretty imho.

I also decided to try to be more vain recently...ds is 18 mths now so life starting to return. I think just having the intention is the most important thing, it's still fine if you are superlazy, but just having the mindset of "Yes I am worth it (ngggg sorry)and I am going to paint my toenails/buy nice pants etc" makes a massive difference. You are allowed to!

scarlet76 · 23/12/2011 06:21

Hopefully - yes, yes and yes to a bun! one of those lovely big ones that people with long hair can have.

And yes, it will be a day for skinnies and a cute jumper. Pub is not at all posh so I don't want to look ott!

Omydarlin - polka dot dress sounds lovely. I am a big fan of spots.
