RIGHT new resolution starting now - I WILL BE more vain - join me??

omydarlin · 18/12/2011 17:28

Anyone want to join me in my New Years Resolution (starting now) to be more vain/groomed/less lazy about feeling and looking great?

I will log on to style and beauty at least twice a week for stylish/beauty/groomy tricks
I will not buy cheap "that'll do " rubbishy clothes any more (well ok but cheap but I have to love them)
I will look after my skin/hair/nails
I will respect my body by giving it lots of water fresh air and healthy food (am doing a weight loss trail thing for work so this should be easier.
I will stop going to work with greasy hair and flaky nail polish or clothes with holes in Xmas Blush

It strikes me that I don't care enough about maintaining my appearance - but conversely I do care when I suddenly catch myself in a shop window looking rough as a dog or when husband compliments me out of the blue because I have bothered to blow dry my hair!

Anyone want to join me for a bit of support or any advice how to become vain will be helpful - strikes me being more vain would be a good thing for me!

Wisteria definitely save for HoC. I have done both and rate HoC so much more highly. They go through it in much more detail, talk about which colours from your palette are best on you, talk about shopping with your palette etc. also have high hopes for the style day on the weekend, which is a nice progression with HoC.

What is a Big Hair? Is it a dryer?

Not done too badly today, did hair, makeup, reasonable clothes.

corkythecat · 11/01/2012 11:00

Wisteria and Rainbow there are loads of threads on here about oil cleansing but to do it "properly" you dont end up using moisturiser, but I like moisturiser and use one with an SPF so this is my slightly modified version of oil cleansing...
You need a mix of castor oil and veg oil (normal veg oil from the kitchen!) Castor oil is very drying on its own so depending on how oily your skin is you vary the mixture (I use 25% castor to 75% veg) I also add in a few drops of tea tree. Put a small blob onto your hand and rub over your face, I give myself a little facial type massage while doing it. Soak a flannel or muslin in hot water, hand hot not scalding obvioulsy. Squeeze the flannel/muslin out and press onto your face. I repeat the soak, squeeze and steam a few times and then gently massage my face to remove the oil. you can then dry and continue with your normal moisturiser and make up routine.
Writing it down makes it sound like it takes ages but it really only takes 2 minutes max, presuming you have the oil already made up.
I love it, its much gentler than soap/ face washes, is dead cheap and makes me look much fresher in the morning.

Oh and this a Babyliss big hair.

It's a roatating dryer that gives your hair a bit more ooomph.

Thanks corky can i ask tho, do you wash your face first and then clense with the oil? also it i pre mix the oil in a little bottle of some kind will it last or do you need to mix new each time? and same question re-almond oil? thanks!

corkythecat · 11/01/2012 13:30

I guess you could use almond oil, haven't tried it myself, can you let me know whats it's like if you do.
I dont wash my face first, the oil removes everything - even mascara.
I bought my castor oil online, couldn't find it anywhere in supermarkets, boots or the lovely independent chemist down the road from me.

Hopefully · 11/01/2012 13:32

I do OCM too, really rate it. Don't wash/remove make up first - the oil does a better job than anything else! I bought castor oil from an eBay seller, but previous link is cheaper.

WisteriaWoman · 11/01/2012 18:53

Corky thank you so much for the idiots guide to oil cleansing - its sounds wonderful.

Hopefully thanks for your views about House of COlour - just not sure I can find the time for all the sessions or the cash!!

BTW - has anyone ever tried the Clothkits - they have some v cute kids clothes and some v quirky skirts.

Hopefully · 11/01/2012 19:12

Wisteria there's no pressure to do all the sessions in one big rush at all - they don't do a hard sell or anything. I would definitely recommend waiting a bit longer and saving for HoC if you can, but if you want to get on and do it, maybe you can find someone to recommend a local CMB person? There are more of them so you should have more choice, but I think quality varies a bit more, so best to go on a personal recommendation.

I live about 500ft from the Clothkits store. They are v lovely and posh in there, and the stuff is really sweet. I sometimes think about buying kits from there for when I am feeling ultra lazy but want to sew something.

Corky I now have all my oils (thanks to local chemist) and I'm going to make up the OMC "potion" and will give it a go tonight. WIsh me luck!!

Have been trawling the Kettlewell site sale and they do everything by your "colours". Looking at their info I'm a "summer". It's a great site as they show lots of different styles according to your "colours". I've also been trawling lots of sites about "pear shapes and what to / not to wear and I think I've cracked it! (It means half my wardrobe will have to go!)

HOw's the Shredding going? A friend has just started and is thrilled. I've managed one morning of stretching and nothing since...:(

Hello everyoneSmile
Haven't been on for a while but will be back later for a more substantial post- just writing this whilst dd naps in the car before playgroup.
Well- my skin us looking better since facial at weekend & actually making sure I take make up off every night & cleanse properly. It's quite obvious really but something I was just a bit too lazy to do, so at this time of the month I'm usually a spotty mess but skin is much better.
Off to the shops tomorrow with a friend whilst DH has dd - remember Saturday shopping trips when u were a teen? So hoping I'll finally get a chance to try the skinnies.
We've also booked a holiday & I've joined a gym so now need to get more vain with diet & exercise!

HappyHippyChick · 13/01/2012 13:39

Just a quick update on how I'm getting on - 39+4 now so clothes shopping still not an option but have been managing to do my face and hair every day. Have epilated regularly, getting used to the pain! Managed to get my DH to paint my toenails shabbily this morning (he hates nail varnish so a real achievement) as I cannot reach my toes.

Have fabulous new handbag and bought a pacapod changing bag so at least part of me will look stylish!

Will start shredding once I've had the baby and feel up to it.

Well done everyone sounds like you're all doing well!!

scarlet76 · 14/01/2012 14:42

Are we all still being ultra vain Grin
I am doing so much better since the wardrobe declutter - wearing much more of a variety of things rather than sticking to the same few things and getting bored.
Now need to focus on diet and taking care of myself. Still eating on the run too much and still snacking too much Sad

AlpinePony · 14/01/2012 15:01

I am embarrassed to show my face. It's been one week since I wore make-up. :( I have semi-packed my hospital bag though to include some make-up.

To make amends I'm off for a bath now and will de-fuzz, pedicure (if I can reach) and all over moisturise.

Good luck wih the babies alpine and happy

I have been doing my hair and make up every day and body brushing and moisturising. Have not got the stuff for OCM yet but will prob next week if i can locate castor oil.

Off on a belated mini-moon in 2 weeks to Edinburgh with the dh sans kiddly winks (woo hoo) so hoping to get a few basics in the sales, like flat ankle style boots, new purse and poss a couple of dresses/tunics to wear with Opaques or leggings as this is my capsule wardobe to last till spring/loose enough weight to go down a size.

Im still dieting and lost 1lb this week, also got asked how if i had a "Dohnut" in my hair today as bun was so neat, had to admit to having a balled up sock in my hair! But on the other had i did recomend they googled it on youtube.

Need to find a nice treatment for my hair as i think its heat damaged, even tho i only use straightners 1-2 times a , not straightening for a week or so to give hair a rest and going to invest in heat protection spray.

Have a lovely weekend all.

addictediam · 14/01/2012 19:12

Alpine and hopefully, you put me to shame! I'm only 37 weeks and have no energy. I just wa-t to sleep all the time so am sleeping while dd does rather than doing hair, makeup and gettingdressed. I feel I may have to wait til baby is here before I can get on with my goals.

WisteriaWoman · 14/01/2012 20:56

ohhh - I'm so impressed with everyone. Sounds like we're all doing v well in our own little ways! I'm really inspired by you all.

I've started dying clothes - in a desperate attempt to get some of my bad purchases more in line with my "colours". Eg dull brown trousers are now lovely claret, dull grey dress is now a lovely rich blue. Yummy! I even went shopping today and only bought one thing to flatter my new found pear shape status. (In the past I would have bought a pile of shapeless sale shit! )

Now I have to find something for DH's bday party of Friday. EEkkk - off to search Boden clearance.

wisteria am very impressed at your dye-ing bravery!!

I've had a very unvain week with a sick and teething baby (blergh). However I finally had my haircut today - the first cut since June last year. AND my new found vanity gave me the confidence to go drastic and it is now about 15 inches shorter than it was!! (Think Steph the business reporter from BBC breakfast, jaw length layered bob) I luuuuuuurve it, it looks grown up and styley - not how I normally feel at all! And to celebrate I went and bought a new top for work in a different pallette than I normally wear.

Next challenge is to figure out these skinny/straight jeans things... Hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend!

WisteriaWoman · 28/01/2012 08:45

HOw's everyone going with the "vain project"? Are you still doing The Shred?
Worri - new haircut sounds great.
Things are sliding a little bit here - nails need doing... but pre- Vain project I would never have thought of doing them in the first place!
