RIGHT new resolution starting now - I WILL BE more vain - join me??

omydarlin · 18/12/2011 17:28

Anyone want to join me in my New Years Resolution (starting now) to be more vain/groomed/less lazy about feeling and looking great?

I will log on to style and beauty at least twice a week for stylish/beauty/groomy tricks
I will not buy cheap "that'll do " rubbishy clothes any more (well ok but cheap but I have to love them)
I will look after my skin/hair/nails
I will respect my body by giving it lots of water fresh air and healthy food (am doing a weight loss trail thing for work so this should be easier.
I will stop going to work with greasy hair and flaky nail polish or clothes with holes in Xmas Blush

It strikes me that I don't care enough about maintaining my appearance - but conversely I do care when I suddenly catch myself in a shop window looking rough as a dog or when husband compliments me out of the blue because I have bothered to blow dry my hair!

Anyone want to join me for a bit of support or any advice how to become vain will be helpful - strikes me being more vain would be a good thing for me!

Hopefully I was so glad to read point c about your sister! Phew. As for DH present ? a manbag? facial? naice jeans?

Ali DD is nearly 11 mo and has just started crawling! She is showing my genes for sport and physical activity. She's also re-started waking in the night . I tired CC last night, felt evil and didn't work :(.

buggy Day 1 with 3 DC? Wow. You deserve Wine and lots of vain treats.

you're doing sooo well. I am doing less well, although have eaten breakfast and lunch, taken vitamins and attempted to babyliss my hair. Am dressed in Kew breton covered in formula and ?ill- fitting-- Mango jeans. Will try and get more sorted if this nap lasts a bit longer.

I'm still on the lookout for a bag...

CheerfulYank · 03/01/2012 16:44

I'm going to try to get the moisturizer/lotion stuff that goes on in the shower...it might be the only time I have to do it.

I love the sound of Clarins Beauty Flash Balm or whatever it's called, does anyone have any experience with it? It's expensive but if it's really great I'll splurge...maybe. :)

On my diet today...doing pretty well. I'm trying to eat soup with lots of veg as I'm terrible about keeping myself hydrated.

Also want to order some new shoes...I'm a jeans/hoodie/trainers kind of girl but if they're nice ones they can look okay. I think! :)

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/01/2012 17:07

Yank I personally don't rate it. I find my money better spent on a good night cream and eye cream, but that is just my view!

CheerfulYank · 03/01/2012 17:09

Good to know! I think I just need to do cheaper things like getting enough water and sleep. :)

Hopefully · 03/01/2012 17:24

I'm the opposite - I really rate beauty flash balm. People always say how well I look when I'm wearing it. I put on about half a pea sized amount, smooth it on (don't rub in!) and apply foundation immediately.

addictediam · 03/01/2012 18:43

I'm not doing so well, ended up in maternity triage yesterday so went in quickly very scruffy. And this morning I showered then dh left for work when I got out (7am) dd decided she wanted to go back to bed (after getting up at 5) I started getting dressed and tidying up and thought why am I doing this?! I'm shattered and went back to bed. I woke up at 9.15 threw on joggers and a fleece and dd woke up at 9.30.

I've not done anything today except wash baby clothes so am feeling like an unattractive slattern Blush. I will clense and tone this evening, tomorrow is a new day :)

WisteriaWoman · 03/01/2012 18:46

WOW I'm so grateful for the Vain Club Rules. This afternoon I got knocked over by a car ( my fault) and had to hobble off to the doctor to show him my injuries.
Thanks to the Vain Rules my toe nails were painted, my grazed legs were moisturised, and the nails of my cut hand were manicured. So ok I may be nursing wounded pride and badly bruised foot - but it could have been so much worse without the Rules!

Hopefully · 03/01/2012 19:44

OMG Wisteria, what a way to test whether you're following vain club rules! Are you ok?

I wish I could have nice finger nails, but I just spend too much time grubbing in the dirt/picking dried food off the table/knitting (it really wears away nail varnish!) to wear varnish. My hands are reasonably well moisturised though, so I guess that's better than nothing.

I am hoping some of my vain buys will arrive tomorrow. I have ordered these ankle boots and these ankle boots and will decide which are nicer/more useful and send the useless pair back. Although I'm also rather liking the ASOS ones in tan leather and brown suede. And navy suede. Probably I'll decide that I can't cope with even that piddly little heel and send them back though, so I'm not overly worried. I've also got a couple of tank tops and a cardigan in my besets colours coming from kettlewell. I am also contemplating ordering these mustard skinnies (I'm thinking they'll be good with ankle boots and possibly with flat sandals in warmer weather) but not sure if I'm brave enough to go pale on my bottom half. Although actually they're not much paler then denim. Thoughts? And apologies for the me me me post, it is incredibly unusual (nay, unheard of!) for me to spend so much on clothes in one go, so I'm basically seeking reassurance. And taking vain club to it's logical, vain, conclusion Wink Grin

Oh, and what the hell can I wear with skinnies other than t-shirts?

Hopefully · 03/01/2012 19:45

best colours

RidingInTheMidnightBlue · 03/01/2012 21:05

wisteria wow! Glad you're ok and that you looked hot! Reminds me of my granny's advice to always wear clean knickers in case you get run over by a bus!
And addicted maternity triage? Hope you're ok too Smile.

hopefully I much prefer the M&S boots to the asos ones - especially if you don't do heels.

I need new jeans though, all of mine need constant hoiking up - drives me mad. Thinking of these for spring. Trying not to buy any more wintery clothes in a vain (haha) attempt to economise a bit. Will focus all vain efforts on springwear instead!

thefurryone · 03/01/2012 21:40

Hi Everyone, you've all been very busy.

wisteria hope you're ok, like Riding my mind did turn to the cleanliness of your underwear Grin

addicted hope all is well, I think even strict vain club rules allow for tracksuit bottoms this late in pregnancy.

Alibaba your DS sounds like mine's long lost twin, he's 8 months and has been crawling since 5 1/2. I met a friend yesterday with a DD the same age who will quite happily just sit and stay anywhere you put her, guess which one of us was wearing make-up.

Moving on from being a hungover slattern on New Year's day, I now have clean blow dried hair, I have a hair appointment on Friday, have made a note in my diary to make a waxing appointment once the beauticans opens tomorrow and today I had my eyebrows threaded.

It's hard to decide whether the latter has made me feel better or not, the woman doing them spent the entire time remarking about how unshaped my brows were and what a struggle it was to bring them back from the brink. To make me feel better she said I was the second maternity leave returner with dreadful eyebrows that she'd seen today and it wasn't even lunchtime Hmm

I have decided not to buy any clothes just yet as I really need to have an incredibly ruthless clear out of my wardrobe, I also need to wait until my finances recover from paying nursery fees in advance and getting paid in arrears.

CheerfulYank · 04/01/2012 00:17

I don't even know if there's a place around here where I can get my colors done...someone told me once that I was a clear winter, and I think I am, but what that means I don't know. Confused

Love the buckle boots Hopefully!

CheerfulYank · 04/01/2012 04:18

All right, Vain Clubbers.

I exfoliated my knees and feet (I have weird dark dry patches on them that look terrible, any idea what they are and how to get rid of them? Confused) and put some salve on them.

I found some lovely nail polish and was going to do my toes but I can't find my remover to get the old chipped stuff off. So it'll have to wait for tomorrow.

I'm drinking a big bottle of water and hoping to get to bed when it's still PM instead of AM...that would be a big step!

I have all of DS' and my clothes set out so that I can concentrate on makeup and hair tomorrow.

msbuggywinkle · 04/01/2012 08:21

wisteria glad you're ok, I thought about clean knickers straight away too!

cheerful you sound very organised, I have no hope of setting out clothes but as I don't have school run or work I do have time in the mornings.

So, today...wearing my lush new jeans and a charcoal coloured tunic, make up is being done when I have finished my cuppa, hair in beach styleee waves thanks to sock bun!

Hopefully · 04/01/2012 08:29

Cheerful are you in the uk? You can search for consultants by area at www.houseofcolour.co.uk

I haven't reached the lofty heights of laying out clothes the night before (as DS2 is in our room with half our clothes and the other half are in the wardrobe in DS1's room and I never think to do it before they're in bed), but have been mentally scrolling through clean clothes and planning an outfit before I go to bed and even that helps a bit. Need to sort clothes/DC sleeping locations though.

Hope you're all having a lovely vain Wednesday!

WisteriaWoman · 04/01/2012 08:54

Thank you all for your good wishes and the comments about clean undies!! Grin

Today's problem is what to wear when one foot is badly bruised and one leg is bruised and grazed. Have just done the school run (courtesy of a taxi as I can't drive/walk) but look a disgrace- wearing track suit bums, and pink slippers, at least make up was done.

Serious question... as my injured foot is v swollen are Ugg boots worth investing in or are they too passé? Does anyone know a company which can get them to me asap?!(Ie By tomorrow) Alternatively is there such a thing as fashionable orthopaedic footwear? Hmm

HOpefully - I prefer the M and S boots as they look comfy but I probably don't get a vote because I'm too old to be trendy! Thanks for the House of Color link since I'm off work today I'll check it out and will probably spend my day doing some online shopping!.

scarlet76 · 04/01/2012 12:35

How are we all doing today?
Wisteria I wish you a speedy recovery. If you are thinking of investing in ugg type boots, I would definitely check out JUST SHEEPSKIN website. They do ugg type boots and I have the low chocolate brown ones. Lovely quality, super warm and extra fast delivery!!!
Hopefully did you find anything for H's birthday yet? It was H's birthday yesterday and got him a nice retro Adidas airline style bag. He was very pleased with it and I think it was around £35. Boden also have some nice stripe shirts in the sale at the moment. Got H one in pink and he put it on straight away which is always a good sign!
Well, I have been doing rather well at being vain but the real test will come tomorrow when I have to go back to work. I find it hard to make time for myself when I have to do school run and then go straight to work. May try deciding night before on what to wear to speed me up a bit and stop me grabbing any old thing
My Orla Kiely bag arrived today which I ordered in the sale. Really pleased with it so this will cheer me up when I have back to work blues tomorrow.

scarlet76 · 04/01/2012 12:39

Also - just read an article in the times about a woman who didn't buy herself any clothes for 12 months. She pointed out that it makes you rummage through your wardrobe and look at what you already have. This is something I need to do more. I have plenty of things to wear, I just need to think about how and when to wear them. I am guilty of always thinking I need something new for an event or an occasion Blush
I am off to Rome for the weekend in February - just 4 of us going as it is a friend's 40th - it is a girls weekend. I have told myself I won't buy anything new to take but will aim to pack a nice capsule wardrobe from what I already have.

RidingInTheMidnightBlue · 04/01/2012 13:11

wisteria I like uggs, even though I know S&B says no! Don't have any, as am to tight, but as I'm a sahm/part-time work from home, I think they'd be perfect. (will check out just sheepskin).
scarlet VERY jealous about girlie trip to Rome.

I'm doing better today (last night: face waxed, teeth whitened, hair mask on and babylissed, clear nail varnish applied). Tinted moisturiser, mascara and lipgloss today, wearing boden boyfriend cardi, new look skinnies and brown flat boots. Have learnt that I need to groom myself (?) in the evening and not watch traffic cops or other shit telly in order to keep things under control.

Next naptime I will use blackhead remover and pluck eyebrows (sorry if boring, but writing it down gets it done!).

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/01/2012 13:27

Riding I completely agree about evenings. There is no time in the morning, ever, to do more than wash my hair and do my normal skincare routine and a splodge of makeup.

CheerfulYank · 04/01/2012 17:21

No Hopefully I'm an American. :) Thanks for the link anyway!

I will have to try the sock bun this weekend, that sounds ace.

I've decided to get everything done as early in the day as possible, so that when DH takes DS upstairs to bed, I can be officially off duty and take a long shower with enough time to shave, do self-tanner, etc.

My hair seems to work best when I wash it the day before anyway...it's too slippery if I wash it in the mornings.

I ordered new shoes the other day...they're just black Nikes but they're really nice and will at least look better than my ratty converse and will be good at work. I can't be chasing down kids w/special needs in heels! :o

I am going to look online for a few nice necklaces for when I want to splurge.

CheerfulYank · 04/01/2012 17:22

Oooh and also I have a coupon for teeth whitener so I'm going to get some over the weekend. Love the stuff!

scarlet76 · 04/01/2012 17:28

Ridinginthe... good point about not sitting round watching crap telly and using the time to beautify instead. I am going to try this as my problem is that I am always so rushed in the mornings and all my good intentions go out the window!

madmomma · 04/01/2012 18:07

ooh natasha I've just got the tupler book. Had 2 babies in 2 years and my core is absolutely shot. Had c section 12 days ago so can't start yet, but let me know what it's like when you have a go. I'm hoping it might give me a waist Smile

CheerfulYank · 04/01/2012 18:20

I like to beautify and watch stupid TV at the same time. I can give myself a lovely pedicure while the Jersey Shore's on. :)
