I give up.....where do you find boots to fit over big calfs?

I have spent the whole afternoon trying on boots. In an ideal world i would like leather knee high tan boots with a round toe.....funky more than smart.
In the real world i world i would have been happy if any of them had fitted round my calves.I was feeling pretty bad till i saw a woman throw a pair of boots back on the shelf as they didnt fit her either. She told me i was the 3rd person she had seen today having the same problem.
Have looked in Clarks,Next, Marks and Spencers, even evans but they were bigger all over and online at Duo ( need to try on for that money) Viva la shoes, Marisota etc....
Can anybody help me find a pair before i go mad with frustration?
Thanks

Duo comes highly recommended. Can you get to any of their shops?

AuntieDoris · 26/10/2011 21:52

I have a pair of Duo and I love them. Bought from ebay but are still going strong.

nobodysfool · 26/10/2011 21:52

Blackandgold- sadly no they are too far away.

i have heard horror stories about the calf measurements being massive at Duo is that true?

Carrotsandcelery · 26/10/2011 21:54

I bought Duo online. They have a section telling you how to measure so that you get the right fit. I got it wrong but you can return them and reorder so it wasn't a disaster. I would thoroughly recommend the quality. Mine are 2 years old, worn constantly and still look great.

AuntieDoris · 26/10/2011 21:54

I think the websites list the calf widths so you can get it right.

grinningzombee · 26/10/2011 21:55

Shoe Tailor - they do four different calf sizes. I got some great boots that fit even my enormous calves.

Carrotsandcelery · 26/10/2011 21:56

My memory is a bit vague about it but I think my error was I measured and then added a little margin for error. I didn't need it. If I had stuck to my exact measurement then they would have been fine.

I am getting another style for Christmas this year Grin

acsec · 26/10/2011 21:56

Hotter.com is good apparently, I've seen they have a shop in Bromley too.

beararse · 26/10/2011 21:56

I can't afford Duo but got some black leather knee boots, sort of riding/biker style, from Asda for £38 the other week. I've never found boots to fit my calves that weren't crazy expensive before, and these are suprisingly nice, worth a look.

vinegarpuss · 26/10/2011 21:58

Obviously i'm getting bigger the boots are being made smaller these days

Makingchanges · 26/10/2011 22:02

I've never got a pair of high boots to fit my calf until I went to a Clarks Outlet store. They do loads of boots, and do them in wide fittings. These were wide and had a buckle on the side to make sider too.

TethHearseEnd · 26/10/2011 22:02

La Redoute are great for wider calf boots:

all the stores that sell wider ones stock the same designs.Whats that all about Grin
Hotter looks a bit erm.....old...went in there today and im sure the average age was 70.
Beararse- what were the black ones called?

OP posts:
nobodysfool · 26/10/2011 22:08

TethHearseEnd- i love your boots but i would go arse over tit in those when im rushing about on the school run.Need a 'clumpy' pair to stomp in.I like the second ones though.
You wouldnt think i would be so fussy hey?

OP posts:
vinegarpuss · 26/10/2011 22:44

Re TethHeares suggestions, - do you think the riding boots would be nice with both a dress or jeans tucked in?

beararse · 26/10/2011 22:51

hope this link works

nobodysfool · 26/10/2011 23:01

beararse - found them. Can i ask what the width of the top of the boots is please.I LOVE them!

I saw these in ASDA at the weekend!! Never occurred to me - they looked just as good in 'real life'

beararse · 26/10/2011 23:07

Approx 15.5" all around. They have a generous elasticated panel at the back and also a buckle to adjust fit. They're a close fit on me but go on fine over leggings, and the leather is softening and stretching anyway.

2madboys · 27/10/2011 09:36

So glad to hear that bear - I've just ordered these and hoping they'll fit over my rather chunky calves! Also hope the reviews saying the size is generous too are true as I usually take 5.5 and there is only size 5 left! Can you fit jeans in as well?

Carrotsandcelery · 27/10/2011 09:55

This is a bizarre suggestion, but 16 plus rider also has some wider calfed leather boots if you want practical ones rather than fashion ones. these ones here and welly boots too if anyone is in need.

GlaikitFizzogOnaNeepyLantern · 27/10/2011 10:17

I've quickly read through this and I don't think anyone has said Evans. I've got 3 pairs from there over the years and they are all still going. be warned though they are wide fit. I take a half size smaller.

I'm off to check out all the other suggestions here!!
