A north face duvet type.

I love it so much I well up thinking about it.

I cannot justify £220 for it though.

I am very sad.

I love a poncho. I have a vintage Welsh wool one.

TethHearseEnd · 20/10/2011 16:10

Or is it a cape?

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 20/10/2011 16:11

was eying one up in monsoon.nice big collar/neck bit but too many tassels.

pocketandsweet · 20/10/2011 16:13

I like the IDEA of a poncho but am not sure I wouldn't look insane wearing one... Or like I belong in a mariachi band

WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 20/10/2011 16:13

There's always a 30% off voucher for GAP, and if there isn't one then there'll be another along in a minute.
This week's voucher comes from Grazia, and it's valid until the 25th, so you have to shell out a couple of quid, so not worth it for a T-shirt, but definitely worth it for a coat or a couple of pairs of jeans .

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 20/10/2011 16:15

Damn you. I avoid those coats but the Land's End one looks good. If the North Face one looks good on you buy it.

As for ponchos, don't but them from here because they're too pricey, but don't buy anything that looks like like 3, 5, 10 or 28.

lostlady · 20/10/2011 16:17

I got a lovely light, cost down coat from tk maxx for £59. Loads on their website. Also, there's an Aigle one on bestincountry website for £140: XL, I liked but was lured by cheaper one.

I do look less like a lagged boiler than in my old one as it's very soft

Can't link, on phone, but maybe worth a look.

pocketandsweet · 20/10/2011 16:18

Definitely avoid 3, 5, 10 and 28.... Or be prepared to say Ole.

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 20/10/2011 16:19

Unless you own pan pipes/plan to film a western.

WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 20/10/2011 16:27

Oh dear heavens that John Lewis one - the model is clearly 7 foot tall and size 9, but she the coat makes her look like Miriam Margolyes.

And TethHearse, if the OP's problem is that she is in love with a coat that costs £220, linking to other coats that cost £220 is Not Helping

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 20/10/2011 16:27

Do the cost divided by number of wears thing. Good boots and a coat that will be worn daily and be worn again next year are actually very economical. Strappy shoes are my money wasters - only £40-£60 quid a pair but each pair worn once or twice a year max.

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 20/10/2011 16:28

my lips have gone blue.

actual blue.

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 20/10/2011 16:28

can't do furry hood. yeuch. itch.

OP posts:
WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 20/10/2011 16:31

Ooh, and talking of tragically unflattering puffer pictures, look at this - the rear view of the model in the blue just makes me shudder at the thought of what it would look like on me, who has an actual arse.

Claragoesbumpsinthenight · 20/10/2011 16:37

I say Buy IT! I have the shorter version..nutpse one and its super toasty..Its not very resistant to water but it is the business when it comes to blueness prevention. But no you can't afford the Uggs this month, they're £300 a pop and you cant wear them in all weathers. Get yourself a pair on Lands End snow boots for £70 and thats a compromise.£300 and you're sorted for winter! TADA!!!

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 20/10/2011 16:40

£198

alegre · 20/10/2011 16:42

Oooh. I was just lurking for ideas for an affordable down coat.
Thanks for your link WhoIsThatMaskedWoman. I liked it Smile.

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 20/10/2011 16:42

£189 but not in purple

Popbiscuit · 20/10/2011 16:44

Cervix-It's a very practical coat (not too trendy) and you will definitely get the wear out of it. It will be money well spent. I have a North Face and a Lands End (Canada-land of Hellish winters) and I have to say the Lands End is every bit as good as the North Face, quality wise but North Face tends to be a little more sensitively tailored (makes me feel less frumpy). I say go for it .

moonmother · 20/10/2011 16:57

Buy the Tresspass Ladna coat instead same style and half the price

here have them www.outdoormania.co.uk/Item-6-0-cat-6-brand-2015-Trespass_Ladna_Long_Down_Coat.aspx

I bought one of these last year and it's so comfy and warm, I can honestly say I didn't feel the cold at all when i wore it last winter.

It washes really well too Grin

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 20/10/2011 16:58

right. i am orf shortly to look at jumpers in tesco (25% off).

excitingly there is a go-outdoors next door so I may slip in and look at some tents and maybe a nice coat.

i shall try it on again and get DD to judge the arsage. she is very judgy and has an aspergersesque nack of telling the harsh and painful truth.

I wiill also verify i could sit down in it.

and then i might buy it.

OP posts:
ZombiesAteYourCervix · 20/10/2011 16:59

but the tresspass one has a furry hood.

OP posts:
WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 20/10/2011 16:59

I reckon this looks like the best of the Landsend ones (the fur trim snaps off - I rather fancy the teal version myself) but at 150 quid it's not hugely cheaper than the best price on the North Face you really want this is their cheapest, but it's not exactly glam.

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 20/10/2011 17:35

Check if the furryness is detachable. If you like this (obviously if the fur is removable) there's an offer on ATM that would bring the price down another 20%.

moonmother · 20/10/2011 17:38

The hood can be taken off, also the fur can be taken off the hood, it really is the best coat I've had in a long while.

I've worn it the past 2 mornings for the school run and had a few of the mums asking where I got it from, as they are looking for something similar.
