What would you ask clothes and shoe designers to STOP bloody designing and trying to flog us?

On my list:

  1. Tops/dresses with necklines which show your bra straps. As most women wear bras and most bra straps aren't designed for public display, this would seem to be a basic design flaw.

  2. Skirts / trousers / jeans with pockets in stupid unflattering places. We don't need the extra bulkage thanks.

  3. Yet ANOTHER bloody gladiator sandal. Just because I hate them.

What would be on your list?

Come on clothes designers, how hard can it be.

Your target markets are either

  1. Arsey or Busty.

  2. a) Keen on showing their underwear and flaunting polyester or b) Not.

Cater properly to ALL your markets please.

Me too Remus! I have an aversion to anything round my pretty wrists, apart from jewellery! I always hoick up sweater sleeves, and jacket sleeves, and mac sleeves....

BulletWithAName · 31/07/2011 20:47

I wish that someone out there would design a range of high waisted bikinis for £30 or less!

SharperSeven · 31/07/2011 20:49

Arsey AND Busty :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2011 20:49

Seven - love my trench coat with the sleeves hoisted up. It makes me feel all Alexa Chung!!! :)

BulletWithAName · 31/07/2011 20:50

Me too!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 31/07/2011 20:50

Shirts or blouses that gape at the boob if you are over a C cup.

HouseOfBamboo · 31/07/2011 20:51

Oh yes and agree with most of what SevenAgainstThebes said.

I like cotton jumpers though, personally speaking.

Yes, 'Arsey and Busty' too, why not.

Thing is, it would make sense for designers to define these things on the clothes rails before we even waste time trawling through them.

Sections entitled 'Pears, Don't Even Think About It' and 'Hourglasses Come Hither' would save so much time.

Hourglass people - you need Vivienne Westwood, especially if you are short waisted too. Her clothes are cut for us.

Bunbaker · 31/07/2011 21:16

"I love three-quarter length sleeves, especially on jackets. I have never yet met a jacket which hasn't made me want to chop a few inches off its arms and HATE the feel of jacket sleeves rubbing against my wrists. Besides, I have v pretty wrists!"

I don't have short arms and work in an office with arctic air conditioning. I loathe 3/4 length sleeves - they give me frostbite.

I agree with all your points SevenagainstThebes.

TheSmallClanger · 31/07/2011 21:48

Pencil skirts. Stop designing them please. Stop trying to bring in "ladylike chic" every other year. It never sells and I hate it.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 31/07/2011 21:52

Ooh I love a 3/4 sleeve - have very elegant hands and wrists to show off. My bugbear is sleeveless dresses - quite apart from the fact that I hate my upper arms, we live in a place where on the odd occasion it's warm, every office and shop cranks the air con up to arctic. Also, designers and retailers, some women who are otherwise not particularly wide have these things called breasts, perhaps you could try and accommodate them? Thanks.

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 31/07/2011 21:53

Clothes with uneven hemlines. Yes, Next, I'm talking to you. Once in a blue moon, something in there looks nice then oops! the hem on the left is 6 inches lower than on the right! WHY?

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 31/07/2011 21:55

Oh, and some of us can't wear knee boots because our legs are long, and oddly-shaped-mid-calf-boot isn't a good look. Stripper heels also vile, and please get rid of obligatory 'hidden' platform which gives your toes a camel toe.

TrillianAstra · 31/07/2011 22:00

So... is there anything left for anyone to wear at all?

Meglet · 31/07/2011 22:01

I like 3/4 sleeves on work tops / t-shirts Blush. Totally stupid idea on jackets though.

Please stop putting very low v-necks on work blouses. I don't want to flash my bra to everyone if I happen to bend over.

Less pockets on baby / toddler clothes.

Un-padded bras for the smaller of chest please. I'm quite happy being compact and don't need to boost my cleavage thankyouverymuch. And more flesh coloured bra's, any other colour looks shite under a light coloured top.

pictish · 31/07/2011 22:03

Kid's clothes ruined by ugly stuff stitched on them.
Nice dungarees, if it weren't for that giant tractor right on the front of the leg.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 31/07/2011 22:06

Oh, one-shoulder dresses. They look awful on everyone.

TrillianAstra · 31/07/2011 22:06

Standardising sizes would be a bad thing for most.

Currently some retailers have larger hip:waist or waist:shoulder or bust:arm length ratios and some have shorter.

If sizes were standardised then things would only fit if you had the exact standard ratio. At least now there's a chance that some clothes might fit.

Columbia999 · 31/07/2011 22:09

Woolly jumpers with short sleeves. What the hell is all that about? Angry

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 31/07/2011 22:22

Too-short skirt lengths. I am tall, I have good legs. But I'd like to be able to sit down at work without flashing the tops of my thighs at whoever's passing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2011 22:28

I like pencil skirts.

Grandhighpoohba · 31/07/2011 22:35

Swimming costumes that require major grooming operations before use.

I just want to take the kids swimming. I don't want to have to spend time and money deforesting my nethers first, nor do I want to have to deal with the horrible itchy rash that follows. Swimming costumes with shorts please!
