So, should I be panic-buying loads of coral coloured stuff or what?

Right so I got my colours done on the weekend (!) and I'm a bright/clear spring and to cut a long story short one of my really good colours is that pinky orange/coral that is about a lot at the moment, or flamingo pink, or a peachy pink. Coral, basically, is what it tends to be called.

Since then I've seen shedloads of coral coloured stuff about, much of it in the sale or about to be. Its possibly passed me by before now but I suspect it has been one of the season's "fashionable" colours - or is it always about of a summertime? Hmm Confused

Anyways. I've never been attracted to it on the hanger particularly but it does make me look 10 years younger and light up my face and make my eyes pop out in a good way and generally make me look like there's life in the old girl yet. Obviously there are lots of other colours that also looked good but none of them quite made the lady draping me and her other victim client's jaws drop to the floor quite so much

So is it a temporary thing, will this colour dissapear for approximately a decade till it comes back in again, or is it always about a bit in the summertime? If not, I guess I should buy a few key pieces in the size I ought to be my size? Confused

Phew - that would have been such a cringe! Mind if I PM you to ask your thoughts about it all so far? Happy to share what I think/know too.

CakeandRoses · 09/08/2011 14:56

clippity def go and have another one done! everyone who has had two says their second one analysed them as a completely different season.

YouCan'tTeuchThis That is lovely. Will add it to my look-at-after-my-style-day list!

clevery did you do cmb recently?

TattyDevine · 09/08/2011 18:34

Well hello ladies, I find my thoughts obsessing returning to a colour change (hair), sometime before the end of the year (famous last words - though I did just refresh yesterday/day before so I should wait a bit)

I would probably do ColourB4 (though would only need one box and probably not extra strength as I don't have colour build up and until recently was highlighted to an almost Jennifer Anniston colour, at least a 7)

Am seriously considering (depending what ColourB4 reveals) Clairol Nice n Easy 109A Warm Auburn, or perhaps 116B Natural Light Caramel Brown.

Here's the Clairol Colour chart, cannot link directly to exact colours as it wont, but have a browse

It depends a bit what ColourB4 reveals - it might be that I do one to cover over my existing hair but that another one is the right root product. This is always a problem, how to match body of hair with virgin roots.

Thing is (bit of backstory) my hair isn't all that dark but it isn't all that red either. But it is warm. Its warm and light, but not so warm its Auburn, and not so light its blonde. I need a warmish colour but not too warm but it needs to be high ish contrast with my eyes.

I have in fact done the "red" thing but it was very dark and then bright dark reds, and on the cool side of things (plummy reds, so probably all wrong really) and they were hard to get rid of but I'm thinking light warm colours and if I hate them, worst case scenario is I ColourB4 or colour over.

What do you reckon?

I keep looking at this kind of thing and of course This kind of thing and even this kind of thing (scroll down to Marcia Cross in an Emerald Green dress) and think I should at least try it...

Sounds as though your natural colour is similar to mine tatty? i thought you were much darker. The colours you're looking at are lighter than mine I think tho.

Pure Spring porn are those links tatty This thread is fast becoming a 'ring' Shock Grin

RipMacWinkle · 09/08/2011 18:53

Hello all, I'm Rip and I'm a Blue Spring.... !!!

Love this thread, it's like therapy with friends. I was "done" over 3 years ago and I'm still learning. Partly because I've still not done the Style class (have been dithering over it for absolutely ages) and partly because I'm still (still!!!) getting my head round it.

And I'm ashamed to admit I still wear a lot of black - mostly trousers - but I work in a professional office environment and struggle to find something as easy to sling on. It's fair to say I'm a work in progress. And yes, I know it's been a while. What can I say? I don't like to rush Grin

I couldn't even guess how many hours I've spent poring the internet looking at clothes. Shocking if you could see the state of my wardrobe.

Anyway, wanted to delurk and see if there's anything I can share with the thread.

clippityclop · 09/08/2011 20:00

Thanks for the encouragement! Will sort myself out with a colours/style session after the hols so I can join in! Grin

TattyDevine · 09/08/2011 20:16

Right ladies, I have a purchase confessional

This red dress

Just "tested" that link and it defaults to another colour so choose "red"

Its from La Redoute Hmm new season Autumn/Winter, and is an exact match to number 20 on your swatch wallet, which I think is Geranium Red or Tomato Red? I think it lies in between Terracotta and Poppy.

Its a perfect "spring" red and for £21 (I think I got it for even less as there is a 20% discount or whatever) its a steal. Yes I think its probably polyester but apart from that its well made and double layered and you can't go wrong. I believe that have a top that is basically the same but stops at the waistline. Will try and link. But the colour is perfect.

Just to add, the dress turned up by courier about an hour ago so I've actually compared it to the swatch in the flesh in daylight Grin

Very nice Tatty - looks a la Isabella Oliver typee thing. I'd have got mine in the grey colour (had I not been saving for Wrap items).
I must get my colours done - I seem to have no consistency. I (think) I suit, dusky pinks, purples, greys, denimy blue, winter white, cream, dark (ish) terracotta, mint green. I have (dyed) blond hair (natural is mousey brown)with greeney/blue eyes and take a medium tan.
Any ideas?

CakeandRoses · 09/08/2011 23:31

That looks spot on tatty tho prob too short for me too. You do look like the long, slim legs type! How does it look on?

V similar to my colours tracy and I'm a paintbox Spring. I thought I had a good grasp of the colours that suited me tho until I was 'done' and realised how important the shade is.

Ok, couple of questions for all of you:

  • what are you keeping in the 'wear pile'? I've got several patterned dresses and tops which are 70-90pc spring colours but have the odd duff note (eg a muted tone of blue or a small amount of black or white) - wear or tear?
  • what are you doiung about your white gold/platinum wedding rings etc? Is it possible to get them redone in yellow gold? Not sure my ruby engagement will look a bit Elizabeth Duke after that tho.
TracyK · 10/08/2011 08:18

Where did you get yours done Cakes?

CakeandRoses · 10/08/2011 08:32

tracy Vicky Everall in Sawston, near Cambridge. She seemed good, very experienced (is also an area manager). she's got one of those slightly scary, dominating personalities but in a nice way, iykwim?

she was a very good advert for colours analysis as she looked her age (i'm guessing!) but in an amazing unlined/super-bright-eyed way. she did have wrinkles but you have to look for them as her colours kinda blurred them Confused

CakeandRoses · 10/08/2011 08:35

oh and welcome to our spring porn ring rip [grip]

here's some more

CakeandRoses · 10/08/2011 08:45

grip=grin Ha!

CakeandRoses · 10/08/2011 08:51

This 12 seasons page explains the warm/clear etc thingy well. not that i can decide whether i'm a bright spring or a warm spring

TattyDevine · 10/08/2011 09:20

Morning Springs (and other seasons)

The dress is nowhere near as short as it seems on that model who I imagine is at least 5 foot 10. It is above the knee but not by that much and I suspect they sort of arranged it on her to look as short as possible as well - there is some leeway as to how you can sort of arrange it on yourself if you were standing still due to the drapeyness (is that a word? It is now!)

There is also a top in the same style Here it is I think it defaults to the charcoal colour for a steal at £19.

I wouldn't normally link to this kind of thing but I thought both items were worthy of a mention simply because they are so cheap, so great to ease you in if you are just starting to pick up a few bits, and so compliant with Spring's main red. Okay they are 100% viscose but for less than £20 its a good way to ease yourself in and they have more substance to them than a long sleeved t-shirt or whatever if you are still finding your feet with your new colours.

Will talk about hair in a minute...

CakeandRoses re prints. I have this from the horses mouth at H of C that 10% of a print can be in a 'forbidden' colour. That might mean that some, but not all, of your prints can stay! I would re-arrange your wardrobe so that all the good stuff hangs on the right and gets worse and worse to the left. Try to 'work to the right' and wear those things and only dip into the left when you have to. It is a good way to find out where the gaps are. E.g. if you are always getting trousers out of the left side of the wardrobe you know you need new strides! When you buy something 'right' throw out something from the left. Simples.
I have stopped hanging things in outfits and now put all tops together, all trews etc. Makes it easier to be open minded about what to put with what. I also have little sessions where I audition unlikely combinations and surprise myself. Grin

TattyDevine · 10/08/2011 09:46

My hair - and its natural colour. It a bit of a mystery (haha not really) in that its been years since I've seen it properly.

Its most definitely brown, but only in a light and slightly gold way but not so gold that its colour seems honeyish or goldish - its still definitely brown. It could almost look mousy such is its boring only just brown-ness except when the light shines on it and its definitely warm in a gold way but not a red way. Its mousy brown but with a gold cast instead of a greyish cast which is what mousy by definition is, if that makes sense?

I'm going to try and do some messing around with my spring makeup photos and see if I can try some colours on my hair! Yes I am that bored... Grin
