I think it's really pretty

Ah, but the tunic will cover her bum!

Oh, come on. It is not bitchy. Slight piss-taking perhaps but not nasty. We are just having a laugh cause it is not something that we would plan in advance.

We have an end of term concert and I don't plan ahead what I am wearing, but then it is quite casual. If the expectation is that one should dress up then the OP is just being organised but I don't think this is the norm for a school sports day.

of sitting in a chair drinkng Pimms

clemetteattlee · 21/06/2011 13:32

Does your school have an alcohol licence?? No alcohol allowed on school sites around here...
The tunic is nice, but just nice.

Bluebell123 · 21/06/2011 13:33

I like you beautifulswan, you sound completely normal and rational. Dear god, i only linked to a 16 quid kaftan on ebay Smile

pfbornot....do sports days get a bit violent, down your way?

'I am going to get the kids to create our very own crest, I'd like badgers in it in some form. I expect they'll ruin it by adding something out of Star Wars.'
Grin lizzylou. dd1 would probably put Hello Kitty in ours...

beautifulswan · 21/06/2011 13:39

I'm sure it's all in jest, but when you have a few jesty piss takes it adds a slightly unpleasant undertone don't you think? Maybe I'm over sensitive.

Not sure about the normal bit bluebell ;-0

DrNortherner · 21/06/2011 13:40

Well I have already planned my sports day outfit:

ASIC trainers
Nike running trunks
Nike running crop top
Compression socks.

I will win the mothers race this year I will Wink

yousankmybattleship · 21/06/2011 13:41

Cripes a sports day outift?! That's impressive. Don't want all those pesky children taking the limelight away from you!

Bluebell123 · 21/06/2011 13:41

Pfbornot ... Do explain the blood reference, it's a school sports day, not bare knuckle boxing

OP posts:
ChippyMinton · 21/06/2011 13:43

I'm quite Envy at OP's sports day. Ours is usually at 9am, with most parents in work gear clutching mobiles and pretending to be "in a client meeting", or "on a site visit" Wink, or those who've just come off shift yawning and ready for their beds.

MmeLindor. · 21/06/2011 13:51

Clemette
We get wine at our Promotion (end of school concert) and a free lunch. Very civilised, the Swiss.

Jaspants · 21/06/2011 13:51

DCs school sports day is a saturday spent on camp chairs on the school field sipping Pimms - it's very sociable. And yes there will be a high proportion of tunic / white jeans combo in evidence.

I think the blood comment relates to the unexpected arrival of a period - the dread of the white trouser wearer?

ruddynorah · 21/06/2011 13:56

Horrid tunic, but then I rather think I'm a lot younger than you OP. Looks a tad per una ish imvho.

Bluebell123 · 21/06/2011 13:56

Chippy, i am really aware of how lucky we are to be at a school where a huge effort is put into everything they do. At my kids' last school, the head didn't even come out of her office to cheer the kids on, we all thought it was unforgivable.

Yousankmy - Sad comment about taking the limelight away from kids .... Can you not appreciate that it's a fab day for the kids, and they all love the sense of occasion. Surely its just respectful to bother - like when you go the theatre etc. What exactly do you bother to dress up for when it comes to your kids?

We got mulled wine at the Christmas concert, was lovely.

No Pimms at sports day though Envy

beautifulswan · 21/06/2011 14:04

You must be young norah??! I can imagine a lady in her 20's wearing it and looking lovely.

beautifulswan · 21/06/2011 14:05

Short leggings and flip flops would look great too

caughtinanet · 21/06/2011 14:07

I don't often post on S&B but like to pick up ideas, I can't see anything wrong in planning what to wear for an annual school event, sports days mean different things in different schools and obviously for Bluebell its a big day.

I like the tunic, I'm trying to wean myself off them though as I've bought too many recently.

BulletWithAName · 21/06/2011 14:07

I think it's horrible.

moosemama · 21/06/2011 14:09

I think the top is lovely and would look great with white jeans.

I'm very jealous of your sports day. We used to have whole-day sports days when I was a lass. Parents and grandparents etc came along and brought a picnic, various clubs put on displays and there were proper trophies for each race that the winners got to keep. It was lovely and I still remember them fondly, despite being hopeless at sports and usually needing to be rescued after getting stuck in the obstacle course tunnel. Blush

In contrast, ds2 had his 'sports day' last week and it consisted of an hour watching every child in KS1 doing the same races one after the other. Before being ushered off the field quickly because it was playtime and they needed to lock the gates. Obviously we all smiled, clapped and cheered for the sake of the dcs, but in all honesty it was ridiculously dull. Sad

Bluebell123 · 21/06/2011 14:11

Am only 27 norah. I feel about 100 now!

Is interesting to me that you think it's PerUnaish, as the apparent vibrant quality of the dye and the unusual mix of red with pinky/ purple said the opposite to me. Thanks v much for your opinion though

My daughters teacher makes the sports day. He is so enthusiastic about it and creates a really fun and competetive atmosphere. Of course it helps that he is drop dead gorgeous!

Bluebell123 · 21/06/2011 14:19

Moosemama - what you describe reminds me of my own school sports' days in a v ordinary small state primary. Headmaster with a megaphone, starting gun, proper races, parents and grandparents, small trophies, house cups awarded etc. I have very fond memories of all that. Wonder why some headteachers try to play the whole thing down now. I always feel it's such a shame that really sporty kids who might not otherwise achieve academically, are denied their moment to shine.

OP posts:
whoneedssleepanyway · 21/06/2011 14:21

Perhaps the OP saw the top and wanted an excuse to buy hence could I wear this to sports day, I am sure she didn't go out looking for a specific new outfit to buy for sports day.

Almost thought I had stumbled onto an AIBU thread...

It is not my style OP but I think it could look nice with white jeans Smile

Stokey38 · 21/06/2011 14:22

I think it's nice. Not a big white jeans wearer myself but would look nice with them. Enjoy the sports day.
