As the last thread is now full...

Yes, point us at the thread MI (not that I am any better at the dreaded networking - light and bushel come to mind here...) The person who was in my job prior to me was good, but I do know that she is perceived as better than me because she networked and did all that social stuff better than I do!!

Praise be - £10 back from school dinner money (knew they had overcharged), my cup runneth over......

motherinferior · 21/07/2011 14:07

I am actually quite good at networking, up to a point at least. I just don't approve of fixing stuff for family. It's this thread.

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/07/2011 14:10

Damn you, MI, I have posted on it again!

OP posts:
motherinferior · 21/07/2011 14:14

So have I.

Right, I must go and do some work.

herbaceous · 21/07/2011 14:17

What a lot of unpleasant people on that thread. I'm keeping well out of it!

Ruby, does that mainly mean shades of grey :) (or is that 'British Summer' :) )
I too am keeping away from that thread, there are people on there who make my blood pressure rise.....

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2011 15:41

herbs, he is gorgeous Smile Makes me wish mine were that age again. For a few minutes Grin

ruby, what colours are summer? I don't want to get my colours done as I love all colours and don't want to be restricted! I don't wear yellow or orange or lime green or beige-shades though as they definitely don't suit me!

herbaceous · 21/07/2011 16:08

Whatever happened to old crepey stalwart BIWI? She hasn't gone into a home, has she?

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/07/2011 16:33

LOL! I have met BIWI - quite a glam bird. She must be on holiday, I reckon.

I think I am probably autumn as I have reddish hair and brown eyes and look good in khaki.

DD has a friend coming for a sleepover and has even cleaned the bathroom! Shock Friend has v unfortunate name.

I've met her too! Didn't look quite ready for a rest home, I admit.

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2011 17:50

Even after a few drinks Wink!

I haven't noticed her around the rest of MN either though.....

Mrs S I am hugely impressed that your DD cleaned the bathroom - it would be a miracle if DD ever did that! But I used to clean when I was a teenager if friends were coming round as my mother never did - hope that's not your DD's reason!

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/07/2011 17:55

I am doing progressively less housework, on he grounds that I am not the only person living here, and others can muck in too. DH cleans the loo and bathrooms usually, as I don't do it "properly". He has also taken to washing the floors (we have parquet throughout) for the same reason. And the dusting. So my strategy is clearly working! GrinGrin

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 21/07/2011 18:03

I don't clean "properly" either, but no-one here steps in to remedy the situation. I can safely say that in the 2.5 years we've lived in this house mine is the only rubber-gloved hand that's been down our toilet.

Eeek, had a look at the "networking" thread and am staying well out of it. I got my current job after hearing about it from a friend of a friend - I phoned the MD, he liked me, and I started there three days later. He didn't bother speaking to anyone else. Is that networking or nepotism? But trust me, if I hadn't measured up I'd have been out again just as quickly.

bigTillyMint · 21/07/2011 18:05

God, if I did nothing, no-one would be stepping in at our house - you are a lucky woman!
DH has to be nagged to death to do anything and DD is just like her grandma. DS will help at times, but isn't up too much Sad And my standards are really not that high Blush

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/07/2011 18:11

Networking, CV. Grin

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 21/07/2011 18:27

Phew, MrsS, that's a relief. Grin You and MI were getting quite animated on the subject.

herbaceous · 21/07/2011 18:33

Actually, the last job I had I got the interview because I knew the woman who was currently editing the mag. But all previous jobs I'd just applied, along with 200 other people. Oh, apart from one when I was headhunted, but I don't think that counts as networking. I hope.

motherinferior · 21/07/2011 19:43

I've been asked to apply for jobs too - like the maternity cover for the health editor on one of the glossies. Which I was dead chuffed to be asked about, and loved doing. But if my aunt had edited that glossy, it would have been rather different.

Stropperella · 22/07/2011 08:57

The only time I've ever come close to being headhunted was when I was living in Borneo Grin

Blackduck · 22/07/2011 09:53

Stropp :)

I did once email a collegue with the subject line 'gizza job' and he did, is that networking or nepotism?

motherinferior · 22/07/2011 10:24

Networking Smile same as when I frequently email all the people I've ever worked with and say 'have you ANY work going, eh?'

Nepotism is if I emailed my hypothetical aunt and said 'Can you give me a column'.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/07/2011 18:59

It's Friday evening and I have a nice bottle of Pol Roger in the fridge that is calling to me... Grin

OP posts:
herbaceous · 22/07/2011 19:33

I'm off to the fish and chip shop. Two haddocks, one chips. Two fatsos.
