As the last thread is now full...

hey, Blackduck - I live 5 mins on the train from Kamakura - we could have had a Crepey meet-up in Japan Grin

actually, I was in Osaka for a couple of days until last night....even hotter there, if you can believe it! hope you are enjoying your stay Smile

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/08/2011 09:55

Sorry to hear about your cat, Herbs. Mine needs to go to the vet, as he has a lump in his groin - I think possibly a lipoma - but no vet to be had anywhere before the middle of next week.

I survived 5 days with my mother. Grin I have told her that she should not be driving, as she can barely see out of one eye. She retorted that she could "see big things like cars" and "how would she get around without a car?" I have told her to go to the doctor or the optician asap, but am not convinced that she will. I do know her optician, who is a family friend, so think I will give her a call.

Parasites are here, and have gone off on the bus to explore. They said yesterday that they would not want to eat out at all in the evening, but would just eat in with us (so clearly not planning on taking us out!) every night.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 17/08/2011 09:58

oh, I am sorry about all these cat stories.

I didn't get that job, but have been approached about some other work which I'd actually rather do. We'll see....

motherinferior · 17/08/2011 10:00

And have just had a text from my (formerly anorexic) sister, who is enduring a few days chez our parents. S mentioned that she's arranging her blood donor appointment. Our mother says, 'Oh, I've never been heavy enough to give blood, of course....'

(It takes many years to realise that some of my mother's remarks - such as 'Oh, I have to admit it was rather nice in the days when I could walk into a room and everyone would fall silent at my looks' - made to me, as a lumpen teenager made well aware of her own lumpenness - might be a bit barbed...)

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/08/2011 10:37

LOL at your mother, MI. My mother says to me "Of course, I was privately educated, whereas you just went to the local comprehensive, so of course I am better educated than you..." Unfortunately private education can't give you brains that weren't there in the first place.

TR we were in Osaka until Sunday. In Tokyo now until Saturday then off to Kyoto and home via Osaka - loving it except for the heat and one small moany child Grin thou can't blame him really - can't remember sweating this much EVER and done some travelling in my time! But have air con working! I'd love to say I am dropping weight, but doesn't seem to be happening.MI sorry about the job, something round next corner

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2011 14:10

MI, sorry to hear about the no-job, hopefully the other one will work out.

Luckily for me, making barbed comments about my looks / brains, etc is not one of my mother's faults. And once she had had a minor stroke, she agreed to give up her car (causing much mayhem as DH and I had to travel 200miles to sell it off for her before the insurance renewal 5 days later....)

MI was your mother really that beautiful?

motherinferior · 17/08/2011 14:44

It's hard to tell, BTM. I mean, hard for me to tell. I was brought up to believe she was, literally, the most beautiful woman in the world; and she was, certainly, very beautiful. And very very thin.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/08/2011 15:09

DH says that my mother looks like WH Auden. Grin The years of sunworship and smoking have taken their toll on her skin.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 17/08/2011 15:55

I just got offered a job Shock

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2011 16:00

I feel relieved that my mother has always been a short round thing who dresses like an 80yo, with a hairdo like the queen, so I've had nothing to live up / down to Grin It must be very hard for a child to feel that they will never be as good as their mother (even if it's only in the mothers eyes)

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2011 16:01

Oooh cross-posts.

WELL DONE! hope it's loadsamoney!

motherinferior · 17/08/2011 16:11

Not loads, but full time for nine months. Feel very very weird about this. (And about working full time, but let's face it if it's a choice between full time - with kids the age of mine, dammit - and not enough, I'll go for full time.)

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/08/2011 17:11

I have just been to the caviste to stock up. He gave me a free bottle of wine. I think this is proof that I drink too much. Blush

Will raise my glass to you tonight, MI.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 17/08/2011 17:14

Frankly, I'm not counting anything TILL I START. It is all incredibly weird. I didn't apply for it; they rang me up and said 'oh please come and work here'. WTF?

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2011 17:32

That's the best kind of interview Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/08/2011 17:37

It's your reputation then, innit? Grin

OP posts:
herbaceous · 17/08/2011 18:33

I think it's called head-hunting, MI. Grasp with both hands.

motherinferior · 17/08/2011 18:35

I will need work clothes. For five days a week. You can't go to work in a proper office in kneelength cut-offs with a hole in thethigh can you...

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/08/2011 18:56

Rush to the end of the sales. I got short boots for #33, reduced from #99 and a Windsmoor skirt for #29 reduced from #129 in John Lewis last week. Skirt is Unexciting but can be made more exciting with an interesting top and scarf.

OP posts:
Stropperella · 17/08/2011 22:03

Woah! Loads going on here. Congratulations, MI! And good luck with fighting your way to the good stuff in the end of the sales :)

Sorry to hear about your cat, Herbs. dd and I cried for weeks when our old dog was pts. And ds was only 21 months, so he kept saying things like "Henry gone. Come back soon." Which made us howl even more.

Blackduck, glad to hear the aircon is working now :)

Am just knocking back a second glass of wine to recover from a day spent with dh, ds, dd, my mother and the dog at an agricultural show. And we (dh and I) were up until 3am meeting a deadline, so what we really, really wanted to do today was go and stand in a damp field and look at tractors and cows etc. The dog has the best time, as he remembers every year that there is terrier racing and drags us all the way to where it is being held. He got a rosette for coming 2nd in the final, but dd reckoned he was robbed. dd wants to take him to another, more local, agricultural show in 2 weeks, as she is desparate for another rosette for her collection, but I am not sure I can stand another day of being a pretend farmer. Although if you like Joules-type clothes you can find real bargains. I did spot rather a nifty tweed jacket today, but I didn't get a quiet moment to try it on. Yeah. Tweed. I probably shouldn't, should I?

Stropperella · 17/08/2011 22:10

Would just like to add that dh is a working class scot from Glasgow, who finds agricultural shows in SW England completely hilarious, but also surreal. He refuses to look at any cows and is quite disturbed by the idea of people entering competitions for the longest runner bean (no, really). He is secretly please, however, that the dog always wins a rosette and is a bit deranged about chasing a bit of fur (the dog, not dh).

Stropperella · 17/08/2011 22:12

I can spell "desperate". I'm just knackered...

See MI told you something would come up Grin hope it's interesting at the very least! Lol at agricultural shows and all that - as a complete townie I have a mild fascination with such things. Off to Nikko today - another temple I think......getting temple fatigue. Have a good day crepeys, and shouldn't we be starting a new thread soon?
